Re: Does refusal to play (deprivation) help cure gambling addiction?
by

on 07/09/2025, 19:08:54 UTC
Rehabilitation from gambling addiction is often associated with completely stopping the activity, and it seems necessary for those who have hit rock bottom financially. In reality, taking a break from gambling shows how strong the habit is and helps reveal the root of the problem: many players have the illusion of easy profit without any skills in risk and money management, just as the op noted. I don't think weaning is necessary to recover, as the goal of rehabilitation, to me, is getting gambling under control. But perhaps for people with serious addiction, getting it under control is only possible through a full stop and switch to other things.

Re: The development of original IP games for casinos.
by

Casinos are a multi-million dollar industry, just like console gaming. Just like the console wars a few years ago, there was complete exclusivity for some IPs, and this maintained a specific audience for each console, just like Mario and Nintendo. I wonder if this is just starting or if it was designed for online casinos.

I'm not talking about rehashing something that already exists; I'm talking about creating original games that grab users' attention and guarantee player loyalty.

Perhaps this is the future of casinos. Imagine having exclusivity for a specific game, and if it were successful, casinos would have a ton of customers almost guaranteed.
Hm, that an interesting topic. Yes, consoles used to (and in a way still) compete, offering exclusive games. Nintendo still does that, but overall, we now see most games not being platform-specific, being available to users with various devices. As for casinos, I'd say it's even less about the unique experience because at least the types of the most common games are numbered, and sure, perhaps some play at this specific casino because they like this specific slot design, but I don't think that's the decisive factor. Trust, atmosphere, and customer experience seem more relevant to me when it comes to gambling.

Re: Slots or Casino are designed for people to lose.
by

From this explanation and the image below, do you believe that casino was designed for gamblers to win or lose?

Well, casino is a business. Business is for profit, so of course there needs to be money going in, more than going out (otherwise, you're broke). It thus makes sense for the house to be at an advantage, and for people to lose more [often] than they win. It's natural, and it makes sense. Gambling is an entertainment, and people pay to be entertained. In this sense, it's not losing money, it's paying for an experience, for the thrill, for a chance to win.

Re: Are slots rigged or Just math at work?

Slots are mostly (fully?) about chance. Streaks of wins and losses can make it feel like something is “wrong,” but in reality, the outcome is impossible to predict. Sometimes it seems like the system is against the player, but it’s just how probability works. As it is hard for us humans to accept chaos, to accept randomness, we are trying to rationalize it, to find patterns and reasons behind them.
Slot machines are made for entertainment, not for earning money. Which is why it's important to set limits, stay calm, and enjoy the game, with occasional the wins.

Re: Money or resourcefulness?

In today's economy, if you want to get richer which one would you want more? Money to kickstart your idea or career... or just creativity and resourcefulness? With social media being more important in the economy and creation of jobs, anything is honestly possible now.

Yes, there are still things you will need that require money but it is not much money compared to before. So many jobs are created from the internet. So many people can reach out to you and help you if they take interest in what you do. So, for me even though money will make things easier... resourcefulness can really help you be richer. Will you agree?
Resourcefulness is a vague word, it can mean many things. If being resourceful includes have a good network of personal connections, which essentially makes your chance of finding the right opportunities and people who can help you implement ideas and earn money, then it is better than just having money or just having a decent career. Without funding, it is difficult to turn a concept into a real product and, even more so, to make a profit. But if you can get funding through a mix of creativity and resourcefulness, then it's a good deal.

Losses in gambling clearly show how risky decisions can lead to serious consequences. And it makes sense one might feel even worse when losing BTC than when losing fiat, due to perceived loss of future profit (e.g., not just losing $1k worth of BTC, but $10k because of value growth over the years).
Thankfully, I haven't been through major crypto losses, and my gambling and betting situation is quite stable.

Re: Slow or fast?
by

on 06/09/2025, 20:45:15 UTC
This is an interesting topic, and in my view, the key is not how fast you spend money, but being mindful and planning. Spending quickly is often seen as careless, but it can be justified if it goes into something valuable (not financially valuable but enabling precious experiences) or profitable. Spending slowly is not always wise either: money can be kept “forever,” and it loses value due to inflation.
Having some savings and saving up regularly makes sense, but perhaps keeping savings in fiat is unwise. Saving up for a nice family vacation or something like that is nice as well.

Re: Gambling as a form of Mental Sports

It’s interesting to look at gambling as a kind of mind sport, but we shouldn’t mix things up. Chess or professional poker really develop strategic thinking, attention to details, and the ability to predict an opponent’s moves.
As for blackjack or sports betting, I believe they challenge a different set of skills and require a combination of discipline, experience, and quick decision-making under pressure.
It's all training in some sense, but it also comes with risks.

It's not easy to balance tradition vs rights protection. I believe that if a tradition harms living beings and it is not done to obtain food, clothing etc., it should be outlawed.
If it's very popular, then some kind of phasing out and thinking of what to replace it makes sense, so that the ban is not too sudden.

I believe that the decision about having children should not be based solely on money. Yes, finances are important for comfort and opportunities, but they do not define the meaning of parenthood. Children are not just expenses; they bring the experience of unconditional love, responsibility, and shared growth.
What really matters is understanding your own readiness to raise, support, and dedicate your time to a small human being. For some, this is the meaning of life, while for others, it can be a burden.

Re: Philippine House has introduced a bill to establish a strategic bitcoin reserve.
by

The Philippines could take a bold step by legalizing the purchase of Bitcoin for its national reserve. On one hand, this is a way to diversify assets, protect against inflation, and attract investors’ attention. On the other hand, the high volatility of cryptocurrency and the risk of losses require strict control and cybersecurity. This experiment could set a trend for other countries if management is transparent and sensible, because without a solid strategy, the government risks losing significant funds, turning innovation into a financial trap.

Re: Some day gas and crude oil will be a thing of the past
by

One day, natural gas and crude oil will really become things of the past. As others pointed out, those are resources which will run out. And besides, they are problematic for the environment. The world is already moving in the direction of renewable energy, but the future won’t belong to just one energy source. A mix of renewable energy like solar, wind, and hydro, combined with nuclear power and perhaps new technologies. That would be much better for our planet and for humanity as well, but unfortunately, the road there is not that simple, and it really depends on the country and region you live in.

Re: Earning salary or owning a business which is better
by

on 27/08/2025, 16:26:22 UTC
Choosing between a job and running your own business is not just a financial decision, but also a question of managing your time and energy. A salary provides stability but limits your freedom to make decisions; a business offers opportunities but also doesn't guarantee income and involves a risk of losing everything.
I'm not a business kind of person, I would not want to do something for profit. I am okay working for others, as long as I agree with the mission. It doesn't bother me that there is someone I report to, and as I tend to work in civic sector and in education, there is plenty of freedom for me on what to focus on and how to approach my tasks. There's also this very decent option of being self-employed, which I've tried in the past. I enjoyed it, but I currently prefer working at an organisation I'm currently at because it provides more opportunities for making an impact and comes with its own resources and good colleagues.

Re: Is it easy to be a responsible player?
by
kryptqnick
on 27/08/2025, 16:07:15 UTC
I am generally a responsible person, and it is easy for me to be responsible in any area, as long as I have some basic mental resource for it.
But being a responsible player is probably not easy in general, especially for those who come to gambling with the idea of making quick money. It is important to practice systematically: set a budget in advance, understand the risks, and stop on time. Emotions, stress, or a bad mood can affect your judgment, so the habit of playing responsibly should be fostered and developed gradually, in case it doesn't come naturally to a person.

Re: Which is more addicting?
by

on 24/08/2025, 18:08:21 UTC
I tried finding sone data on this point but unfortunately couldn't find anything conclusive. Even though it might seem that slots are more addictive because of fast results, there are articles on the dangers of getting addicted to sports betting as well.
In any case, addiction is unfortunate, abd one shouldn't gamble or bet if one is prone to addiction, very young, or generally impulsive and struggling to keep emotions under control.
