I have a site prepared for selling stickes, mugs, etc... and much more. Just wait few days for publishing Smiley
Great!
I seem to have missed the announcement. It's very hard to keep up with all the updates on the various sites...  Sad

Will you also create / sell clothing for promotional purposes?
no, we are waiting for pro company to create for us branding packages, so we will have new logos etc, so any items created with old logos are a waste of time and resources I think

new logo's?

was there agreement on spending big money on professional branding? not totally sure, if we need this.
I for one am producing a useful marketing item, which also uses some Nxt logo.
when it is ready I can send it worldwide. keep it decentralized.

I like BCNexts ideas and am very curious how they will work out. Especially how "real coins" are created on top of Nxt.

We have our first small online tournament up. It starts saturday and is a chess tournament.
See: http://www.freechess.org/Events/NXT/

I've written a small article on it, which anyone can publish.
It also would be cool, if someone translated it to russian and spanish.

Thank you!

great!
I am not a native english speaker and appreciate your changes.
Can I reuse your version?

It would be really nice to have it in spanish and russian also.

Warning
I withdrew Nxt from the Poloniex exchange and didn't receive them. Instead I read in my withdrawalhistory "EMAIL SENT".

I did not get my Nxt and I also didn't get any email.

be careful with Poloniex.com

Please inform the community if/when this gets resolved.

All is resolved. Everything absolutely OK with Poloniex.
It's actually a nice exchange and could have more traders.

Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Nxt now on Cryptmarket! [articles bounties]
by

A little small minor miniscule advice for promotion of Nxt in general:

If you address third parties, don't make the mistake to emphasize your goal of promotion too much.
You might think "hey, I am am indeed promoting a currency and this is actually good promotion", but we are all bothered with ads all day long and have a sceptical attitude towards promotion.

I did this wrong myself in the beginning, when trying to set up online chess tournaments.
I told them I want to promote a currency by donating prizemoney. the reply wasn't too friendly in the beginning.

But think about it: you don't wanna sell something, you offer a vehicle, that is extremely valuable and you offer it for nothing!
The adoption of cryptocurrency in online games or any online activity, where physical goods aren't exchanged, is extremely scarce, but in fact it fits like chalk and cheese. you bring value to their product/platform/game by pointing out the values of Nxt.

Our marketing should strongly circle around third parties adopting Nxt as an easy to use currency.
We don't have to address every single enduser ourselves!

I play on FICS since mid 90ies and were playing on the ICC also for over 10 years, but in the end FICS has everything I need and I don't pay anymore for ICC. the big difference for promotion is, that FICS is free for everyone.
But a tournament on ICC also is a good idea.

I used to play a lot at FICS, but recently kind of got tired of chess in general...  When these two tournaments at FICS will take place, is it already known?

yes, we fixed the dates today.

the tournaments on FICS will take place in February.
Regarding the prizefund on ICC (which is the commercial version of FICS and based on their code):

I was around in 1992 Smiley The majority of ICS code (which later become a commercial site) was written by Daniel  Sleator

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Sleator

who later commercialized it in 1995 leading to big dispute.

Later ICC sued FICS for keep copying ICC new features (like "Seek" command, for example).

There is no comparison between ICC and FICS. ICC has thousands of active grandmasters and International masters and FICS does not.

Have you ever been a paying member on ICC?

Is anyone interested in sponsoring a chess tournament on ICC? (chessclub.com? )

ICC was founded back in 1991 (at that time it was known as ICS) -- long before google and and yahoo. It has hundreds of International Grandmasters and International master -- not to mention 30 thousand (and more) regular chess players who pay $60  a year membership fees.

Here is a list of active ICC members

http://www6.chessclub.com/activities/all_handles.php

This is a list Grandmasters who play on ICC

http://www6.chessclub.com/help/GM-bio

(the list of International masters is much larger)

A big chess tournament on ICC where the prize money is awarded in Nxt (must be enough money though to attack all the grandmasters) can attract media coverage OUTSIDE of crypto community.

I emailed Martin Grund (one of the founder of ICC) and asked him if ICC would hold such a tournament where prize money would be in Nxt (donated by Nxt community) and they will advertise the tournament to their members, and in the media.

Here is how that email exchange went:

How about arranging a chess tournament on a large scale (could be $10,000 US dollar eqv)?

The Nxt (it's crypto currency) stakeholders are spending money on promoting it. It currently has $60 million dollars market cap

 http://coinmarketcap.com/

(see #5 Nxt)

Someone did $500 worth of tournament on FICS where they currency was paid with Nxt.

How about if I talk to the stakeholders to sponsor a tournament on ICC worth $10,000 ?

They provide the money (in Nxt). You arrange the tournament on ICC with enough publicity to attract some press and GMs and IMs

$10,000 is a lot of money in chess circles Smiley

to me
It could happen if the monies were put in escrow.

We would, in essence, show off their monetary systems capabilities in venues such as ours.

In fact, we too would toss some money into the fray.

If it matters, I am an officer of ICC, a founding owner, VP and treasurer.

the tournaments on FICS will take place in February.
Regarding the prizefund on ICC (which is the commercial version of FICS and based on their code):
We have to think about the best balance between prizefund and publicity.
10000$ are a nice pricefund for a chess tourney, but you won't get 20x participants compared to 500$ prizefund for an online tournament.
although you might get press cover on sites as chessvibes, since with 10k$ their will be many grandmasters participating.

Could someone teach me how to check signature/hash. Someone said a couple of days ago that he can't confirm hash with 0.5.10 so I though it's better to learn before the next update.

I guess you are on windows?
you can use hashtab, which get's integrated in your fileexplorer.
easy and handy.

The world is rapidly drifting into a global electronic police state, where anything and everything we do is recorded, analyzed, scrutinized, etc. We used to be able to use normal cash to buy things. Now, cash transactions are prohibited for most things in america. Soon all cash will become illegal. This is normal cash. Without a crypto replacement for cash, the world will be controlled by people who know what everybody else is doing with their money.
- very well said, James!

And I can see that and agree with jl777's thought, it is well said... but would a government agent who supported the NSA agree with that?  Just seems to me like I could see them being unhappy about it and arguing that people who use them have criminal intent or something along those lines.  Can you name some legitimate reasons you'd want some transactions to remain anonymous though?

I don't know.. I guess I'm just not in such a hurry to implement it until we've been around for a while.  Basically until we're big enough to be able to lobby that mixing stay legal.  Though even if it isn't built in, they'll probably always be mixers around for the bigger cryptos as long as they are around for those who do want to use them.

One more thing to throw in is I'm currently in the process of getting a mortgage and one question they asked was for me to trace where my Bitcoins came from and how they flowed around my accounts since they were worried about money laundering.

so your solution is to do everything the NSA guys approve? is your solution also to eat what advertisments tell you?
is your solution also to read and believe everything the press tells you?
welcome in the police state.

Regarding Mixing Service. Do we need such on-chain service that mixes coins with anonymity-reliability trade-off? 30% anonymity means 70% reliability to get all the coins back. Yes, it means that with 100% anonymity u could get 0% - 200% coins back.

can you elaborate on how the mixing service can work and why such high risks are involved?
the anonymity feature is quite important in my view.

edit: I got it. it is a users idea.

can you post or pm me a file for paperweight size? I guess I could produce 100 of them rather cheaply.

I will. Requres some work. I'm super busy @ work right now but I'll get back to that in the weekend. Btw which material are you thinking of? I may have to chamfer the edges depending on the material being used for CNC.

I will use acrylic glass
