Re: Combine merit abuse with delete post and you are good to go

That is the main problem here, actually there is no shortage of merits to distribute there are just many abusive members existing in this forum and they dont get punished and that is the reason why abuse is still happening.

They said that those abusers will soon get out of merits and thats true, but those deserving to receive merits will also get a lower chance to get some.

Yes, something like reversing the merits in case an abuse is confirmed would be good. But the admin has already ruled that out in his comments. I can understand that doing this manually would take a lot of time and thus not practical in the long run. That is why there should be limits at the first place to send merits per post, per member and so on.

First allowing abuse through loopholes and then spending time finding and reversing the abuse is a lot of precious time wasted.

Re: Unique way to cheat the forum- Paid bumping

Why don't you waste your time doing that and see how helpful it is. I doubt they'll even reply and the info probably wouldn't be relevant or helpful. All they'll be able to give you at most is the email address or IP they signed up with and I dount they'll have used one that can be tied directly back to their ICO.

Because i do not have any authority to do so. Do you think that it would have same impact if a nobody asks them for details as compared to someone involved with the forum like the staff.

Also, if you have seen the way micro tasks websites operate, there are websites which contact them and get tasks related to their web property removed. Some websites are thus excluded on these micro jobs sites forever.

but it doesn't rule out the possibility that it could be initiated by the ANN owner itself
need some solid proofs and probably quite hard to find in this case

Not very hard, staff here can contact the webmaster of that micro jobs site and then ask the details of the person posting this job . Then it can be matched with the ANN owner and this can be confirmed. It will take few minutes and help us get rid of a scammer here.

Many members here do not understand the dept of this problem. A member cheating a signature campaign affects oen person , the person paying for that campaign. But in this case, all people buying that coins because of more visibility due to this paid bumping are affected.

One of the coins that I will suggest is ripple. It has not shown much growth this year is available for quite cheap now. Since, this coin is the third coin based on market cap, it means a lot of people are already investing in this coin.

Some other coins that you can consider are like bitcoin cash and BAT. If you go for bitcoin can, go only for short term and invest with some target price. This is because there is a lot of manipulation there , so it is not good for long term.

Re: A way to filter out bogus accounts

A simple way to filter out bogus accounts is to require KYC.  If an account has been verified, they have greater posting abilities.  If they haven't been verified, they are in read only.  This seems like it would weed out bots and spammers!

I would be willing to do KYC to keep my account!

Big no as it is completely against one of the things crypto stands for.

Re: I understood why I do not get merit.

1. Nobody knows when he will get a merit

Isn't that fun ? When you login after few days and see some merits in your profile, you will feel compelled to check the posts that gave you merit. I am still to enjoy that feeling. It will fade away with time though in my opinion.

3. Do not tell anyone about the merit

You cannot hide it. Your profile will easily give all details about it to the viewers. We can see your merits and posts which got it. The data regarding who gave it is also stored for some days.

what is actually our mission gathered in this bitcointalk forum, what just looking for money what the fraternity between countries or between cities .. please his explanation Huh

Here is what the forum is doing for bitcoin community:

1) You can know about the scams being run in name of crypto. A number of such scam projects had been caught by the members here itself. It helps to save members from such scam projects.

2) You can read about the latest news and developments related to bitcoins here.

3) Another unique thing here is that you can see the evolution of crypto here. Just go through the past posts of any old members and you can enjoy their crypto journey over the years.

When I think of things I want less of in my online life, Captcha's is pretty high up there!  It would annoy the shit out of me to have to do it for every post.   Sad

Unfortunately everyone has to pay the price for the acts of spammers and bots.

If we calculate all the time spent by people filling the captcha all over the world, it is a useless waste of a  lot of precious time. I would also want less of it but this is not possible as webmasters and admins have to protect their web properties from spammers. May be we can have some better alternative in future.

I would rather let all my sMerits decay to zero rather than give them to some shitposter hoping to rank up. Smiley

Rightly said. If I was the admin I would announce it all of sudden with 1-2 day time period. All the spammers will try to merit their alts in hurry and we will have next batch of merit abusers ready to be punished. Makes the work easier for the staff. Smiley

Of course, the forum should put restrictions for users who are spamming this place. But making a rule in general for all members is not right in my opinion. I mean why punish all members for the spam caused by a handful of a members.

In my opinion, the limit to create certain number of threads in a day should be there. Usually , on small forums the staff is able to notice themselves if some user does this. But there is so much activity here, that is it almost impossible to spot all such users manually. If possible, reports should be sent to the staff once a member crosses that number of posts in certain time frame to check this.

John Mcafee is very well known in the online world because of mcafee antivirus and recently cryptocurrency.

Do not listen to this guy's investment advice.  He takes bribes to promote certain projects.  Last time I heard it was 100k usd for him to shill your coin.

This guy is a constant lier and is not to be trusted.

He already admitted that he takes money to promote projects. He has lost all credibility after he did that and it may affect his other businesses. All the scammers can succeed in getting short term profits with crypto but in the long run, they will suffer.

After this incidence, I have stopped believing the recommendations of these gurus however reputed they are.

Not to mention that this thread is only about 3 days old, so you're expecting DT members to take immediate action on a merit abuse case that's flimsy at best?

What is the average duration for action taken in reported cases ?

Well you cant say no action is taken.

Did you check the dates when those merits were sent (merit abuse took place) ?

You dont need to start a thread about this topic here.

Why do you think so ?

This is a nice thread and I hope the admins have checked the stats themselves. Those Alexa figures showing decrease in traffic here might be because crypto is not that much popular as it was when bitcoins peaked at $20000. However, mods have additional tools to check the activity like time spent by users and all, total posts being made.

In case, the forum is suffering because of the rule, it should be modified. Admin should be flexible enough to do so if he wants this forum to continue for long.

I read somewhere on the forum that if you do not login or make any post here for 3 months , the account is deleted. Can someone confirm this as I could not find anything official about this.

Regarding your suggestion OP, current ranking up is based on both activity and merits. It might be implemented for higher ranks though.

Are here separate rules for old members abusing the forum ?
by

on 13/05/2018, 17:45:05 UTC
I know many will not like this post as mostly old members are active here. In some cases, I see clear abuse of merit system by old members and no action is taken. If this is done by a new member, they are painted red in minutes. Why these double standards ?

See this:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=156379

Merit summary: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=156379

Any one can see that he is repetitively abusing the merit system.

How can even bounty managers pay these users ? Don't they check the posts quality before approving the weekly payments ? Not only the member is questionable but also the campaign manager should be reviewed.

People should lose the merit if the post is deleted for whatever reason. Allowing it is just ripe for abuse as people can just merit shitposts or posts that are in fact copy and pasted then delete to hide the evidence.

Also, as members are raising voice against this problem, more abusers will get to know about this. They will also try to get away with their merit abuses by doing the same thing till a fix is implemented. Is there any page to see recently deleted posts here ?

Combine merit abuse with delete post and you are good to go

I was reading a thread in meta where  this problem was raised by a member. Did some research and found a possible abuse case:

Users involved:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1029845

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=962182

See merit history:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1029845

Member 1 has sent merits to member 2 for total of 10 times and now all posts are deleted. They did this in February and are safe till now.
