FYI - I messaged Hox, as s/he seems to be the winner. If that falls apart, I'll contact the next person on the list.

If someone was still looking to use these for mining, what would be the argument against that?  I'm sure people understand they aren't efficient compared to newer tech and I'm wondering what numbers put that into perspective.
with 3 block eruptors you would make 0.00001065BTC a month. not even enough to cover transaction fees.

It would take 1million 100,000 years to mine a block assuming difficulty stays the same. I don't even think ckpool supports that low of hashrate anymore

Thanks eze.  That's a good stat, can't even make enough monthly BTC to cover the transaction fee for sending that months income.

That's why I posted these as "vintage" in the "collectibles" section rather than as mining hardware Smiley

6 @ $10 each + shipping

Looks like Hox is leading.

I'm going to work shortly, will check in later.

For those collecting these pieces of history, do you also have the plastic cases?

No, unfortunately I don't!

Preference for coins tradable on Shapeshift, but I'd be willing to look at any other exchange as well...

Actually scratch that out of country one - after looking at USPS prices, I don't think the economics work out. So currently 6 for $50 + S&H...  Can I get verification on what country they'ed go to?

How much would shipping cost to India?

Chronicsky and I can place a combined shipping order, if you're interested.

not worth mining but great as a collectible

i will take all or atleast 1-2 Cheesy

Looking at USPS.com's website at:
https://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/il_002.htm

I'm seeing this listed under "prohibitions":

Consumer electronic items, (except hearing aids and life-saving equipment, apparatus, and appliances and parts thereof). Shipments containing these goods up to the value of 200 Indian rupees (gift value) are at present released after the words “Released on caution” have been stamped on the item.

I think it says the cost is $31.95 for a *Padded Flat Rate Envelope*

Seeing the customs prohibition, I wouldn't be afraid to ship it, but obviously could not guarantee delivery, and would not be willing to provide a refund if it wasn't received.

Lets talk tomorrow if your bid(s) are leading, otherwise feel free to let me know that it's not acceptable.

Thanks!

No possible way it would fall to ZERO, I don't think. There MIGHT end up being two competing chains, but you'd have coins on both chains and could then decide whether you want to add to or remove your position in one of those coins after that date.

I will note, I've 'diversified' into a couple others, just in case a fork causes people to panic, especially if one of the teams decides to take their ball and go home rather than continue working to make their fork the more popular one.

1 person from out of country asked for one for $40 incl S&H

I doubt anyone else will match that, so lets just say there's 5 left.

Otherwise, it looks like its rusbitcoinuser for $9 ea + S&H (assuming they're in the US, not sure based on the name, if I'd have to be looking how to ship to Russia!).

Still going through tomorrow.

Re: The "Satoshi Risk"

I think the most sensible answer is, having created the currency, and presumably, having watched its actions over the years, he'd probably be smart enough not to attempt to dump/swap/exchange all of his coins at once. If the goal was to have a billion dollars, then selling a million coins at market price at the same time would be the surest way NOT to reach that goal.

I assume s/he's still among us, and has plenty more coins aside from the fabled "satoshi" coins to do whatever they want with. But if those original coins did move, I don't get why there would be a freak out. Everyone came into the system knowing, or has since learned, that the mythological satoshi owns what he owns. If the day comes that they want to see some of the fruits of their labor, and that involves moving coins from the earlier blocks, why freak out any more than if they moved coins from later blocks?

Gha, i remember green flickering lights when i see these sticks.
Are these still functional ?

Honestly, I don't know!

The story is, in July 2013, I received my BFL Jalapeño miner (received it within 4 weeks of them FINALLY starting shipments, so it would have done well had I kept it), plugged it in, took a screenshot of it hashing away, and sold it on eBay for... a bit. Replaced that "hashpower" with a bunch of these, and they worked fine until I realized the return was probably negligible. The computer they were plugged into has long since been disposed of, and I haven't thought to look for instructions to get them to work with my MacBook, so they're pretty much as-is, but last I knew they worked.

Not much of an answer, but that's all I knew.

I don't even know! I just stumbled across them in an box of old parts...

I would say $20USD in Bitcoin, plus S&H (shouldn't be very much if you're in the continental US).

With a caveat that the ad stays up for a day or two to see if there are takers at a higher price (just to make sure I'm not holding onto a collector item or something! Smiley

Does that sound reasonable?

Nakamotos' CODE is what's licensed.

The blockchain is the output of that code.

I don't imagine that there is any license attached to that, just as Microsoft doesn't control the license of the document you write in Word.

I'm not a lawyer, however, but that's what I think at least...

Is that what you're looking for?

Re: With the halving now official, how much hash power are you turning off?

If youve paid for your miners outright and your making a profit of just under 100 euros a day then isnt that pretty good? If i was making 700 euros a week and didnt even have to do anything to make it then id be pretty happy and certainly wouldnt be turning any miners off at that kind of profit. In fact id be buying more miners if my electricity supply could handle it.

Just to use dollars (since I don't know the denominations in Euros for cents Smiley, lets say he pays 10 cents per KwH for electricity. He's paying $50 per day for power. He WAS getting .23 BTC per day which equals $149.50, giving a profit of $99.50 (lets round to $100). With the halving, he'll now be receiving .115 BTC per day, or $75. Profit = $25.

On a weekly basis, his profit fell from from $700 per week to $175.

And that's only (potentially) a couple difficulty adjustments away from making the return negligible or negative.

And that's the S9, not the early gen S7, which is surely unprofitable to run absent free or nearly free electricity....

It appears the hashrate has gone up since the halving. The mempool seems to be below 1M ATM too.  Looks like all the Chinese mining farms brought more rigs online to compensate for the loss of income. Could just be luck, but I doubt it.

The pie shrank, but everyones share remains the same. Adding more miners to compensate for lost income across the board, that makes little sense...

It makes sense if you build your farms near a hydroelectric plant in the cool alpine regions of Tibet. The electricity is very cheap and the climate is cool. Also, the difficulty doesn't increase for a little over 1180 blocks at the moment. The block times since the halving are quite a bit shorter on average. Antpool definitely turned on some machines. They mined over 40 blocks in the past 24 hours and they usually only mine somewhere in the 20s.

So you're saying people had miners sitting idle when rewards were 25BTC per block but turned them on when they fell to 12.5BTC? Not at all logical.

Last 6 x Antminer S7

Given the current difficulty and block reward, what price would electricity need to be to make these profitable to run? Never mind external costs like rent/rack space, A/C, etc?

I'm very curious about this.

I'm turning off all my miners. Not. I just trolled you. Lo!. I'm actually doubling down, increased my hash rate 2x. When it gets tough, the tough get going, never mind the electrical cost.

Talk is cheap, you're right! ;-)
