not that i care too much as it is your business and your decision to make - but i think that shutting it down is the worst possible scenario if you really want to accomplish what you said - this void will be filled sooner or latter by someone who will care much less about whiteknighting around - personally i would redirect part or whole income to charities etc. if it make me sleep better - that way bad people that use this or similar service will share some wealth (whether they like or not) with good people  Wink

Re: How much would you trust trezor?

I don't like the fact that you have to log in to some interface to get your coins out of the wallet. What happens if I don't have internet? I don't want to depend on some webpage to get my funds out.

well if you don't have internet connection you won't be able to send that btc anywhere anyway

you don't have to use mytrezor frontend http://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-apps/index.html

anyway, now i have one of those Wink

i don't trust it with whatever left from my coins in 100%, but then again i don't trust ANY storage with all my coins

paper wallet is great, but you have to have a lot of knowledge to use it safe, and there is that point that you need to move your private key to some electronic device to spend (i would like to see private key import in trezor v2)

any electronic device, including trezor can be hacked in one way or another, it can be pure firmware\software vulnerability, it can be hardware based software attack https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~sps32/mcu_lock.html or something else, it is just a matter of how bad someone want it hacked, how much skills and resources he has and how much your devices are exposed - there is almost always some 0day available for your OS, browser, wallet, IM, etc., and if is not there right now it will be soon enough

but with reasonable precautions you can be safe enough

what i fear most is that the initial key isn't random enough (but that is also the case with any private key generation let it be core, some offline java generators etc.) and if that kind of problem is discovered at any point in the future it allows to steal your coins no matter how far you went to protect your own copy of a key

other than that i trust trezor enough to have some coins there for every month use

If you checked all backups you might want to search the disks of the computer(s) you use. Data stored is commonly not really deleted until its overwritten. Maybe some of the lost keys can still be found. Its something I would let an expert do though.

nope, nothing there, i actually do know a bit about data recovery so i have a habit of wiping unused devices clean as i often handle sensitive data

one and only chance is some old backup, but it is quite far away and i'm not to sure if it is from right time...

i will know tomorrow for sure, but my hopes are very low

Therefore, it wouldn't make much sense to send the change to the sending address.

true, but when they designing software that will send change to 'old' addresses it would make much much much more sense that sending address is used instead of second key in the wallet, i mean, come on

i really think i don't have a backup of that - i emptied that wallet while ago and few weeks ago i wanted to verify that balance is 0 and get rid of it so i don't have a dozens of empty wallets

i would never ever expect to loose any btc as i have backup, backup of backup, and backup of backup of backup in different places on multiple media

all it took is one wrong assumption on how software i have been using works and bang

i just lost over 100BTC...
by

i had my private keys on paper, it worked for me OK for a long time so spending become a routine
open multibit classic, create new wallet on ramdisk, export keys, edit file entering my private key,
import keys, send btc, close wallet, delete wallet from ramdisk

i never had a problem with this scenario so i didn't even check if the change came back last couple of times

and last time (the day that my son was born - i have been a bit busy that day Wink ) it didn't came back where i expected, but i only found out today

it happened due to fact that
Quote
"When additional private keys are created or imported the second address in the wallet is always used for change."
Code:
source: https://github.com/bitcoin-solutions/multibit/issues/661

and due to recent slight rise in prices i was collecting unspent bits from here and there, imported few keys, transferred few times etc.

for some reason i presumed that change will be always given back to sending address (that was the very reason i choose multibit over regular client back in the days that you could count wallets on fingers of one hand)...

i know that i have only myself to blame, but for f**k sake...

Some Tried to PayPal scam me
i am new
so when paypal sent me email about reversal i sent an email to paypal saying it was for a digital file and the proof of purchase was the email i sen to client.
i sent an email to the email paid to me on paypal with a photograph and thank them for the purchase.
Will send copy to paypal if needed
will this be enough to cancel the  dispute ?

hardly any chance - even if reversal was due to undelivered item (because if it was due to unauthorized use of account you can forget it) there is virtually no chance that they will take your side

paypal should never be used when dealing with bitcoins - my lesson cost me a bit over €500 Cheesy

Re: You double your deposit in 20 days -- Possible?
by
m4rkiz
on 25/01/2014, 17:12:11 UTC
Here you double your deposit in less than one calendar month.
...
What about that? Anyone knows something about that service?

do you believe that they can have that money doubled in 30 days?

because if they do, and it is a genuine deal they most likely can do that without begging in the internet

in this case they use the money that comes in to pay interest of first users, making sure that they spread the word and possibly reinvest with them, and as soon as they reach their goal they are gone forever

first and most important rule, if there are no names and no address (or you can't verify those) it is a scam (and rule zero - it is always a scam until proven otherwise)

I am a Millionaire obviously I know what I am doing LMAO

no, you sir are unhelpful troll, he was scammed, sure - it is a bad idea to use paypal for anything more than $10 ebay purchase, but this is no more than lack of knowledge

if he will ever do that again that would be stupid

as for OP - if you are dealing with a pro chances for finding him are very small, 1st make list and print screens of anything you have - address, email, phone number etc. etc. then google a lot Wink

there is hardly any way to trace bitcoins, all he needs to do is to send those to himself couple times

I would just wait. Sometimes it takes some time until the coins arrive, especially when they were sent without a fee.

i believe that this is due to lack of confirmations on nontaxed transactions, while i have more than 10 confirmations already

Do you have the latest client? Try starting up with the -rescan option on the receiver side. Have you done anything funky like import a private key or anything?

yes, latest
trying rescan option now

edit: it worked... i say we need a whole lot more in help menu

btc lost in transfer
by
m4rkiz
on 30/07/2011, 15:46:37 UTC
i did small transfer between two btc clients
it has some confirmations on sending client

both clients have the same block count, but there is no sign of anything on receiving one

i can see that there is correct address displayed, transaction exists in block explorer with same address http://blockexplorer.com/address/1TaKbwZTBLrj1ad64V6sUJEr1ZhdgghBv

already tried restarting, and copying wallet.dat to another client, no luck

what can i do to investigate further?

but honestly I'm not paying €10.25 per coin Wink

if i would sold it to you i would receive escrow right now, and at the moment btc is €10...
i know it could be the other way, but as you can see my assumptions were reasonable Wink

80 BTC will be much more than €820 soon...

or not, as it is going down now it may take weeks...
plus, if you pay with btc you can buy them back with cash, especially if they going down

Quote
how would I be able to pay in cash? SEPA wire, maybe?

i can accept btc (with clearcoin if you wish), bank transfer in euro (to ireland) or paypal (although i would prefer not to use it - chargeback risk, high fees)

Quote
I would much rather do this in bitcoins, but only for a realistic value.

i have all btc i want already, and due to the fact that i want to upgrade my pc soon i need cash
if you want to pay in btc i have to include all costs (fact that exchange rate is going down, 0.65% mt gox fee on sale and finally usd to eur conversion)

Quote
Also, I don't need any cooler, I have the A/C and a stock one from a saphire. Assuming your cards are reference (and the fact they have the accelero shows that) I can use that on them.
How about you quote me on a BTC value for both cards, no coolers, pads or grease, shipped? If you really want to you can also quote a value in € but honestly I'm not paying €10.25 per coin Wink

i already have grease, thermal pads, and coolers (and plenty other stuff that lies around) so it really make me not too much difference if i keep them or post to you

i highly doubt that i could sell 5970 stock coolers for anything more than 10-15 euro each as there is simply no market for them

price for today would be €800 \ 76 BTC for just cards shipped within eu

no offense, but as i said, this setup is still highly profitable so i can wait for another buyer, i really don't have to sell it an hour after i created this topic
