I guess a lot of it is where the coin will be in 6 months, 12 months from now.   If above $ 10k, should make money, if below $ 8k, maybe not..

Just look the profitability history for the whole year of 2017 and you will get a quite good picture what it will be at what price and difficulty. So it varies A LOT.

Next difficulty check will be after 7 days and we are expecting about +15% rise in it because the current block times are somewhere at 8 min 30s.

The current mining profits are about $11 and have been lately in heavy bear sentiment.

So the near future does not look good for the quick bucks at this moment. Those who got these units on $1415 (november 2017 batch, in mining from the beginning of 2018) are in much better position.

But as you can see from the profitability history you have to look these things in much longer term than just 1 or 2 months -> annually

Can anybody share some experiences with the new, relaunched Kraken
trading engine?

Is it working better than before? Are there less error messages and time outs than before
the upgrade?

About 2 months ago the support said they are developing a new version of the engine but weren't able to give me any estimation for the launch.

How do you know they have relaunched anything ?
Do you have a link to a news line or sometin ?

CME Group BTC Futures Contract
by
milagm
on 09/11/2017, 05:55:11 UTC
First specifications are out:
http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/bitcoin-futures.html

I think they are going to make a mistake by setting tick value this high ($25/tick/contract). It shouldn't be more than $12.5. I think Because of the huge volatility the size should be something about $5/tick.

Anyway this contract is a VERY much expected product and will create a whole new asset class into industry. In future when big players and market makers will enter into these contracts you really can expect very tight spreads making this product very efficient to trade when comparing to OTC services currently available.

Transparent markets are allways a good thing for the traders and this is what futures will offer for you. Bid/Ask games can of course be played but there is no middle man messing around with your orders.

So everybody who are not familar with the futures I'll give you this advice go and figure out what they are. It really is worth !

...but i dumped all of my coins because i lost my hope on them, i dont like the way that they are threating their investors...

Uh oh that's very bad sign. I also have noticed some things about the management which does not promise good. I hope they do not mess up the whole thing. There is so much more outside of the technology bubble which have to be taking very seriously.

As said in paper everything looks good from the technology point of view but the business itself does not look as good at all. Their achievements have been modest or missing.

Maybe this thing just is in too early stage for serious investments. Too much promises too less real business results.

I will follow this thingy for awhile and if the current trend will continue I will dump too.

IOTA situation
by
milagm
on 16/10/2017, 12:09:06 UTC
I tried to open a discussion about the situation in Reddit but the post got deleted allmost immediately so I'll try my luck here.

Any idea why IOTA is plummeting while other major markets such Bitcoin and Ethereum are rising ?

http://charts.dacharts.net/2017-10-14/chart170.jpg

In short past IOTA been following quite well these markets which I read a healthy state but the last month has been a small disaster. Of course could be temporary but just would like to know if someone knows something what could cause this kind of divergence into markets.

Should we get concerned about this situation ?

As we all may very well know the markets are allways right. The current price action has it's meaning and causes.  The question is do we really understand what is going on. This is why pure technical price action on the charts does not lie.

IOTA supporters/people are very sure about the excellence of their technology and in paper it is very easy to go along but the history is full of examples where the best technogy has not been the one who wins the war. I sometimes am thinking the current management how they do their job...

Anyway. I am the owner of this coin and many others. Just would like to get some discussion about the situation and future.

btw. I didn't put this message into IOTA thread because I suppose it will be deleted on there...

Re: POLL Is Craig Wright Satoshi Nakamoto?
by

on 06/10/2017, 08:41:07 UTC
I thought this issue had died down.  It was already proven that Craig Wright is not what He thinks he is, Satoshi Nakamoto.  And I agree, this guy needs special attention.  I am quite disturbed why people like him love to claim to be someone while it is crystal clear that he is not the one and just the other ordinary guy.

I thought so too, but hes still messing here and there:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1_gxvx_QGo

Nothing wrong if someone does his/her business but this guy totally messed up his career and credibility.

Im ready for give him but first he must come out and ask for it. We all make mistakes but if we do not learn from them then we are doomed.

Tell me your success story with ASICs and I will tell you if you are a biased PR ASIC guy or just someone that has had a bit of luck receiving early his miner.
Much better profits is relative. If playing bingo investing 1 usd for you is much better profit, then we have a very different concept of easiness

Just IMHOs and life.

The mining business must be taken as an investment. By the same way as investing in other asset classes.

Good compare is the traditional stock returns which are yielding (in long term) something about 9% p.a. In mining you can reach that number easily and much more.

But do not except to receive 100% in a month. With a bit luck and for a short period of time it has been possible but annually the numbers are much much lower. This year has been a bit over 200% ROI / 100% profit p.a. (not month). I expect will end the year quite close to this number.

GPU/ASIC gap stays the same or widen a bit.

edit: Numbers

Re: Can china actually ban mining?!?
by
milagm
on 05/10/2017, 08:47:41 UTC
I think it is highly possible for China to ban mining...

They are NOT going to ban mining. They are restructuring the business. Parties close to covernament wants to jump in so this is what is the question about. They will come back but in more regulated form.

It is the same thing with exhanges.

China wants to take biger and bigger role in everything in the world. Why would they leave cryptocurrencies. No they are not leaving they are just restructuring.

Mark my words Cheesy

Girls and Boys !

Your calculations does not take into account that thing that UNTIL the whole markets are banned you are earning 10x in every month with ASICS so it really does not matter do you get 50% back (or even a bit more) from your initial investment when the game ends.

ASIC miner just throws the worthless ASICs to a trashbin and walk away 9x richer than GPUs owners...

Problem is: nobody sells to you a money making machine at a good price

Nobody is making 10x with ASIC except from PR users paid in machines delivered on time, to do promotion

GPU is still here for a reason Smiley

Im not saying GPU is dead. But the fact is you will get much better profits by ASICs. My message and point wasn't the exact numbers but the profit gap. It is large enough so the resale value does not matter in practice.

What comes to availability currently you can buy S9s directly from Bitmain. D3 and L3+ are out of the stock. But this is now. It will be interesting to see what happens in the first half of 2018 on this field.

GPU rigs can be bought now and you are up within 1-2 weeks. So if the profit gap is not a problem for you then go for it. Great choice for the hobbyist.

Anyway I don't believe and expect this gap will get thinner I see it will go thicker in future. Of course overall profits will get lower because of more mining machines.

Re: Innosilicon A5 DashMaster 30.2G 750W

Do you reckon it is more likely that new ASICs based on 7 nm chips won't reach the markets before second half of 2018?

IMO I would say this is for sure.

Chip manufacturers are saying something like this:

https://www.hpcwire.com/2017/06/13/globalfoundries-7nm-chips-coming-2018-euv-2019
http://www.androidauthority.com/who-will-be-the-first-manufacturer-to-7nm-757916

So how long does it take to develop new ASIC models from these chips may take some time so maybe it will be 2019 until retail level can buy products based on these chips ?!

Hopefully we will see a lot of new ASIC manufacturers popping up -> lower prices and more availability. Maybe new unexpected players from Russia or other countries ?
