Re: Mining Electricity Questions (AMP-Breaker)
by

okay so question.  I am running several sets of 2 miner on 20 Amp Breakers.   12 gauge  wire.  No issues.

I am getting a few more miners soon, my breaker box is full.

So I see no issue my changing the 20 Amp Breakers to 30 Amp Breakers, and then putting 3 miners on each circuit, that is what I have read here.

If this is the case, can I keep 12 gauge wire (will three miners work ok hooked up to a 30 Amp breaker running on 12 gauge wire?)

Or do I need to go with 10 Gauge wire?   The distance from the outlet to the breaker box is less than 3 feet, very close..

Dumb question, I know 40 amp breakers are available, why not go with those, or best to keep the 30 amp?

Thank you!

ALSO...is it true people are only making $11 / day off an S9? Why do I see posts of people making $20+?

Because difficulty...

At todays diff with $0.10 elec and 2% pool fees, net profit is estimated somewhere south of $10 a day according to coinwarz.

There was a time when they made $20 a day when difficulty was lower.  If you are getting older info it may have been accurate at the time but not now.

You do understand there is a really strong likely hood diff will continue to increase for quite some time to come right?  You don't seem to grasp the relationship between diff and revenue generated.

I grasp that relationship. What I am saying is that I was noticing people, as recently as a week or two ago, posting on here saying they are making $20+ a day on their S9s (and even showing their slushpool accounts for verification). I'll try to find the link

Keep in mind luck.

On Slush a single Antminer S9 would have generated 0.00191022 BTC on 02/19, 0.001126926 on 02/18 and .00059394 on 02/17  So luck will count for a lot of variance.

That being said - it isn't right to quote mining profits like that in USD.  You should be quoting them in BTC.  If BTC goes back to $17,000 or $1.70 tomorrow(yes - obvious exaggeration) - USD comparisons won't make any sense.

Here is my actual numbers..   Screen shot on 2/21/18.

I have 5   S-9 running..  Slushpool.

https://imgur.com/a/9LF1l

So my estimated revenue per day is 0.00579481 BTC   (for 5 miners)

Which as of today is $ 62.06 in USD.   This does not include costs , such as electricity.

Yep expect about $ 11 per miner at todays exchange rate.

IF it were easy, everyone would be doing it..

(Note. keep in mind you are making BTC.  Fee to transfer to USD Wallet.  Then Fee to transfer to your bank!! FEES FEES FEES)

Re: Antminer S9 Cooling - Refrigerator / Cabinet

...

I am in Texas as well and have 3 Antminers and 2 Pangolin M3s which I think equal about 75 S9s Smiley Anyway you're thinking about cooling incorrectly, what you need to think about is removing the waste heat. I made a thread called ducting check it out. The goal is to simply get the heat out of the garage. By doing just that I reduced the temp approx 30 degrees. Even the brutally hot M3s are staying pretty even.

Also your CFM requirements are waaaaaay too low. Figure around 225 CFM per miner! S9s are around 5000 BTU each, these M3s are over 6000.

Garage temp at the time of this pic was ~ 75 deg F. If I had a fresh air source it would be even better and possibly help cool that HotFlash M3... But this is just a temp setup until I find a suitable building.

Here they all are in their temp duct arrangement

Thank you for the reply.  I will PM you, I am in the DFW area..

I did look at your post on ducting - and yes I will take your advice and first focus on the heat waste issue - getting the hot air that these units kick out somewhere else..   I will do that first, and then address the incoming cool air issue when needed, which is likely 2 months away..

But other main issue I want to address is the noise.   Of course my bedroom wall where my bed is against, the garage is on the other end.  With sheetrock in between I can still hear the humming of the miners (even with some ducting).   2 miners was not bad, 6 is a little noisy..

So I am thinking of putting them in an enclosed cabinet for noise, which still having adequate in and out air flow.   Anyone try this?

Nice setup! Out of curiosity, what's a standard rate for your colo? The lowest rate I found is $135/m/device but they want a year-long contract. That's no beuno...

Have you found anywhere that will do it for $ 135 per month that is accepting new miners?     I been having an issue finding a colo that is open (and looks reputable).

As for power.  My calculations are that a miner will cost (at 10 cents per KWH), around $ 100 per month in electricity.   I know everyone can get electric at 6 cents per KwH, check your bill.   Delivery fees, admin fees, and your "out the door costs" are likely at 10 cents per KwH.

So if my electricity costs $ 100  per month, I think if I could find someone to deal with all the noise, cooling, etc, for $ 35.00 per unit, I would do it..

 - Also - Profit Calculations.   Best site I have found is

https://whattomine.com/asic

Each S9 as of today is bringing in approx $ 14.00 per day  in revenue.   Minus electricity costs ($ 3.00 per day), and making about $ 11.00 per day.

Remember, difficulty goes up all the time, each week my miners make slightly less bitcoin than the last week.    That trend will continue.

Antminer S9 Cooling - Refrigerator / Cabinet
by

Hi,

Live in Texas.  Have 6 S9's in my garage, not a problem now, as it is still "winter", temps are 30 - 60 F.  Getting Warmer very soon, summer temps will be 80 - 100 in my garage, which 6 S9 will overheat in no time.

I tried to find hosting up north (Washington State / Canada), everyone is either full or price is too expensive ($ 170 per unit).  $ 170 might not be that bad, but try find open facility now is the issue.

My electricity costs are 10 cents per Kwh.   I do have the electricity to run (have three 20 amp breakers in my panel for miners  and miners are close to my panel).

They are noisy, and generate lots of heat, so here is my idea.

1.  Buy a used refrigerator / freezer from auction that came from failed restaurants.    Non working freezer I think I can buy for under $ 50.

Example:

https://www.webstaurantstore.com/search/2-door-reach-in-refrigerators.html

I will use it as my cabinet to house my miners.    I know you cannot get a refrigerator / freezer to cool these units, I will buy it non working to get it cheap, and use the cabinet to store the units and bring the sound down.

2.  Cut some holes in the bottom / top / sides and (a) have cool air brought in from either the inside of my house via ducting and an inline fan, or (b) have a portable air conditioner feed cooler air into "cabinet".

3.  I have each miner with exhaust ducting, so I will send the hot air out of the cabinet and vent it to the air outside my garage.   Its all about heat dissipation.

What do you think of this idea ?

I know I will need exhaust fan(s) to vent approx 1200 CFM of heat from 6 miners..   A couple of 6 - 8 " inline fans will do the trick, or may a 12" inline fan.

What temp do I really need the inside of the cabinet to be , the air intake?   Seems like if I can keep the intake air around 70 - 80 F, I should be good, right?  Anyone have experience with this?   i do not think I need to get the air to 60 F, but maybe 75F should be okay?

Any suggestions?   Thank you in advance!

Haha. It took only 3 hours and S9 is now sold out Cheesy

Yeah that was interesting.  The bitmain website actually works (sometimes)

So Samsung is supposedly building new chips for rigs, bitcoin price is weaker..

Are the S9 a good buy (at this time for delivery in March).   I own a couple of them, and I think long term, not a get rich quick idea, they will make money, not at the $ 4000 ebay price, but at $ 2800 landed cost, I think over time I will make money on these things.

I guess a lot of it is where the coin will be in 6 months, 12 months from now.   If above $ 10k, should make money, if below $ 8k, maybe not..

Just was on bitmain website..

S9's were available for sale (2 am Chicago time, Wednesday morning).

I was able to load 10 into my card, and complete the order..   No mention of a sale on twitter.  Everyone else seeing this?

Yes it's on sale again.  But why would you buy them in March when you could get the T9 within a week and start mining now?

Maybe I am crazy, but the T9 is 10.5 Th/s , and the S9 is 13.5 Th/s.   Power looks the same to me.  I rather mine the larger machine for same power..  T9 has to be older hardware..

I do understand the rationale of prioritizing large orders to reduce the number of unique participants to fill the order...however, this should've been communicated up front. I've been holding off on ordering through other sources thinking I was good to go by getting in relatively early on in the group buy.

Really?  You ever try to herd cats?

Would you rather work with / collect money from / get product to 20 people?  or 60 ?

Which is easier ?

Hats off to Nimo for trying to make this work..

Thank you for the feedback.    Let me explain a little more..

It is pretty clear why there has not been a group buy in some time, who wants to give their money to a black hole, and hope that a S9 comes in 1 - 3 months?

I also have operating businesses (retail stores).   I have a professional license issued through the State of Texas.  I am not looking to take anyones money.

I am based in Dallas, Texas, and what I want to know is there enough interest for people to place money into a trust / escrow  account, which not a single money is released until the full purchase price of 200 units is reached, and at that time, payment can only be made to Bitmain.

I would do it on a first come first serve basis.  No minimum.

Would there be interest in such an buying pool.   It would have to be USA and Canada only.   If there is interest, I can share more information.

I just spent 2 hours at 9 pm and 3 am clicking the refresh button on shop.bitmain.com and wasted a lot of time.  There has to be a better way!

I would be in personally for the first 20 units.  So 180 to go..

USA Group Buy - Antminer S9
by
mineintx
on 16/01/2018, 04:19:33 UTC

I just spend a frustrating time trying to buy Antminer S9's on bitmain website during batch release.  Got several into the cart and during checkout process they sold out..  HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY.

I have been reading that BitMain will sell 200 units at a time.

Is there any interest for a United States based buying group?

A mechanism where you feel secure that you will get product, money put into escrow or a trust, where it is only spent on buying the product, product is shipped in bulk to location here in USA  (I am in Dallas, Texas), and then from there it is shipped out..

I see a guy in Canada is setting up a group, they plan to charge 20 %.    I do not think the fee needs to be anywhere near 20 %.

Any interest?   If so I will really look into this.

I did buy a couple of units on Amazon, it was costly, I bought when BTC was higher than it is now, I do want to buy more but not at $ 5500 each (ebay prices now)

I am in a similar spot looking at all this..

Can someone who is running a S9 let me know at current difficulty rates, pool fees, how much BTC is one unit (13.5 T/HS) is ACTUALLY generating for you now,  per day or per month.

I have some units on the way, I will get them up and running next week, and I will let you know how much I actually generate.

I have BRAND NEW S9 Miners on closeout that are already attached to the Brooklyn Bridge, to save on those pesky cooling costs as the units run warm in a closed room.

Just pay me up front, I will send you a pic of them up and running.

Come on guys..
