Change is constant.

That's what we can just accept right now and everything that changes is based on what's the need of the people. I agree that if the fee remains at 1 sat then there is no need for changes at all but LN has already been there and so let's stick to that as an alternative.

What people mostly look at Bitcoin right now as a store of value and they don't mind about all of these technical aspects that you've said.
[/quote

You are right about the store of value
But to store value ITS TOO COMPLICATED FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON.
There are people im familiar with,  who made more then five transactions  to cold storage and still can't complete a BTC transaction by themselves.

Explained the usb Key concept to an accountant who wishes to invest and buy bitcoin , its too complicated for him.Forget it im not gonna do this was is reaction.

maybe im surrounded buy dumb people, donno.
I was around and explained people how to configure baud-rate to access internet and prompt mailto for e-mail.
reminds me this time with same challenges in the history of the tech evolution.

if you get an alert "Something major happenedd" you will still have to Do your own research and it takes time.

if its Buy now. ./b]or ..5..10..15 min time frame button its a different game of risk analysis you are playing.

I've had a weird relationship with Bitcoin lately.
I think about community developments on things such as LN , Vanity search projects, tools, tickers scrapers ECT.....
How they where developed by altruistic members for the chance of creativity, freedom and decentralized banking.

Bitcoin is now a store of value ,a commodity of fiat held by institutional parties.

Major altruistic contributors , sidelined. Some got tips. Most got nothing.

If fees stay at 1 Satoshi , will LN/Layer 2 really be necessary?  What happens when we are all mined up, no one sells and only holds, and the mining fees don't cover the electric bill. Bitcoins showing signs of fatigue and stagnation overall. Will it die ,I don't think so, but Bitcoin doesn't appear to be designed for and by cypherpunks.
If it was , wall street weaponized it.

I've dedicated a lot of my life to this particular branch of cryptography, I've learned a lot! But it kinda feels like it was for nothing at this point. I've publicly released all my crypto projects source codes and walking away from developing in this sector.

I'll still be around speculating but that's about it.

Humanity uses gold as store of value and medium of exchange since  ~700 BCE until ~1950 when the credit system emerged.

Lets say i don't trust banks and i keep my savings 1kg of gold ( equals ~102KUSD). in gold in a good safe.Get my salary in gold ~ 100gr ( ~ 10K USD) every month, either i keep it in 100gr or melt it to the 1kg.
I do see myself buying a car or a house using the gold in a direct transaction.
I don't see myself walking around the city with 100gr Gold in my pocket and buying coffe, pay for parking or buying a dinner.

This is where the 2nd tier / Layer 2 kicks in, convert part of the gold to LN (2nd tier / Layer 2) and use it, this is a much faster and cheaper transaction.
If i have lot of money in the LN, i can convert it back to gold and keep it in the safe.

Same with bitcoin. BTC

The use of the Bitcoin hardware wallet -> convert to Lightning , Liquid or other 2nd tier for fast payments and back to Bitcoin is still complicated understand, use and implement to the average non tech user.

Layer 2 is a MUST, and we have to find more user friendly solutions. users will pay for a good solution.

make sense ?

Depends on your smarts ceiling. There's actually a lot to discuss about bitcoin if you really dig deep into it, like bips and other github related things but not everyone is smart enough to understand how all that works and the code etc including me.

Thinking of trying to improve the Bitcoin ecosystem in various ways. I was wondering whether there is any good ideas for new layer-2 solutions to build for it? Or perhaps a better Bitcoin payment app or something. Essentially you need a project idea related to Bitcoin. I think it’ll help you understand Bitcoin better while trying to improve the ecosystem.

Bitcoin is extremely divisible so even if its relative value rises that is not an issue.

If you're concerned about transaction speed, bitcoin's L2 lightning network already solves this. Lightning is the only bitcoin L2 that exists right now, its all conceptual so far. If you ask me holding self custody on L1 without running a node. I am not okay holding on L2 self custody without my node online. Because you can hack me over easily on L1.

Your node is layer 1, your node is securing layer 2, your node cares. The speed/fees framing to me is basically devs fixating on layer 2 benefit over layer 1. But really need to see layer 2 products that are better than all other forms of payment.

Satoshi said that lost bitcoin is a gift to everyone else so its definitely not a good idea to take away the gifts the rest of us got.

"Lost coins only make everyone else's coins worth slightly more. Think of it as a donation to everyone." - SNttons

That's exactly the point. now try to explain this to a hard working person who has no tech background whatsoever and all he wants is to go to the market and pay for groceries and save part of his income for the kids collage.
Try teaching him self running nodes , L1, L2 satoshi's vision and the whole bitcoin ecosystem. seed , verifying transactions, byzantine generals, its not gonna work.

It has to be :
1 download this app.
2 This is savings account.
3 This is spending account
4 This is the backup
5 This is Receive Button, Spend Button ,Save Button.

All the ecosystem has to be wrapped in these 5 steps and its differently challenging.

KISS Keep It Simple Stupid

Here's what Bitget support had to say.... note their line "At that time, the price fluctuated greatly, so it was normal for the closing price to slip."..... I would be ok with a small bit of slippage but when I set my stop loss to $50 and I lose $150 I don't think $100 of slippage is acceptable!!

I don't think $100 of slippage is acceptable!! !!!!?Huh?   seriously HuhHuh!!!!!  Huh

Strongly suggest for you to learn what slippage is, how and  why it happens, before wondering why a position is not being executed at the requested price.

In which situations is my bet most likely to fail? Undecided

The Bitcoin market is not suitable for tourists who come to visit with an idea hoping to to gain fast profits.

My advice is take your time, learn the bitcoin market that is totally different from any other market in the world.

If you are not fully into it, the best thing you can do is buy bitcoin (e.g, every month or every other month) , store it in a hardware wallet and come back to see how your portfolio performs at the end of each year.

good luck

Re: 16% interest in USDC, too good to be true?
by

on 13/01/2025, 11:48:49 UTC
There is one important issue to keep in mind regarding the USDC and EURC
USDC is a fully programmable geo-location, time and feature alt coin enabling full control over individual consumption habits.

Translating to real life e.g.,
the issuer of the coin witch is regulated by the government can restrict USDC you have to buy gasoline only within 100Km from your residence and up to 50 liter per week. same for food , leasure , travel for anything you purchase.

This feature is not in implemented yet as far as i know but its there.
Giving you free money just the get used to working with USDC  and later implement restrictions its something every user should be aware of.

in the rest , you will loose.
Now, the question is how much you plan to loose.

Re: Trading Research.

Hello, community!

I've been involved in crypto since the beginning, but in recent years, I decided to dive into trading. After spending six months studying all available materials on the subject, I realized that many of the traditional methods are either outdated or irrelevant to today’s markets. So, I embarked on my own research journey.

As an economist with experience in big data analytics, I started working with historical data, focusing on price action. After a year of research, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of market processes but also recognized the limits of my own skills.

I’m now looking for a talented Data Scientist or Data Analyst to join me on a voluntary basis. If you excel in data export, analysis, and visualization, and are ready to invest some time in this research, please send me a message.

Discussions are also welcome!  Wink

Been in Crypto trading for the fifth year now and i came to similar conclusions to your's during my journey. Traditional regulated market and the bitcoin market are different animals. one can be a Bear Bull market while the BTC market is a Kangaroo market, my POV. For traders who come from the traditional market is hard to accept a Kangaroo.
As a software eng, and tech lead i build and analyse data for living. My background is not economics a so a fresh approach might be interesting.
but as i see it
Trading is all about risk management of losses and not about how many profitable trades one has.

None.

TA indicators you mention analyze historic data, this is not relevant to the Bitcoin market.

Re: are there any de-centralized crypto exchanges out there ?
by

on 16/04/2024, 18:04:00 UTC
It depends on your definition of decentralized exchanges. If you mean those that just run on smart contracts based on different networks such as Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Solana, Base etc. then they are very many. Pick what suites you.

Personally, i don't consider them as decentralized exchanges.

Like bitcoin is decentralized, same concept. but on exchange of btc / usdt, usd, eur ....
with spot trading, order-book, makers and takers .. and  API , WS ..

and have API or web-socket interface ?
just asking.

That's too vague of a request. A lot of decentralized exchanges have an API, but what is it exactly that you're trying to achieve? fetching prices? trading? something else? what do you need websockets for? the more information the better we can help you.

for trading

Re: Is it true that this AI is good for trading?
by
mrkfdr
on 23/02/2023, 17:44:42 UTC
AI might be useful for some of things, but I'm not at all sure AI can predict the future even though the data it has is a reference for traders. I tend to think that people are starting to feel their brains and abilities are no longer better than AI so they can no longer rely on their brains for all activities, including trading. I really didn't expect AI to replace humans, and self-reliance is usually much better.

Humans were created to think and decide things wisely, while AI only works based on data provided by its developers. When the data is wrong, of course the trader will bear the consequences.

It depends on what do we call a prediction. If we expect that AI will give a 100% answer about what will be in the future then it is impossible, at least as modern science know. But if we talk about statistical probability of different main variants I guess it can do so. But if to choose most probable variant all the time you'll get an error anyway as events with low probability happen as well and relying too much on an AI advice can end with total loss. So right, it is important to understand for any tool how it works and not expecting it can do more that it can.

TLDR AI prediction equals to any other out there in the market.

to predict now what will be the price of BTC after 24h or some other number, Hmmmm...NO.

One can teach AI to recognize historical trading signal patterns or certain behavior of the market . the result of predicting based on this data ,as being said -statistically has the same chance to win or loose as human .
that being said,
AI help significantly  in processing historical data to decision making,
we have some time until AI will be able to develop by itself His way to predict market, we are not there yet, it's called AGI.

Re: Risk management: How to set a Stop Loss
by
mrkfdr
on 30/10/2022, 12:41:46 UTC
The classical methods practice mentioned above of setting a Stop Loss that are derived from the regulated market will not work as expected in the free Bitcoin market, therefore, other methods should be considered.
