What are these plugs in the gpus?

HDMI dummy plugs - it makes them think they're plugged into monitors.  On Windows at least I haven't found a way to get the 470's to reliably report temp or keep fan speed without them.  Nvidia cards work fine.

Do those work for remote access screen resolution issues?  I notice that I have screen resolution issues when I remotely access the miner if I don't have a monitor plugged into at least one graphics card, and that is true for both RDP and teamviewer.  Windows wants to default to something like 800x600 when it thinks it can't detect a monitor - also have display issues with MSI afterburner in remote access sessions which is what I think you are referring to.  I can sometimes use DVI plugs for that purpose but they don't always work (depends on the card I guess).

Also where do you get those?  I see some on amazon but they are pricey.

Can we please remove the "Finish setting up your Kraken account" nag from the website?  It apparently wants me to do step three "Secure Your Funds" which is setup 2FA but I have been using google auth for login 2FA for quite a long time.  If I click the "Secure" button which is what it presumably is nagging me to do, then I end up on the security tab with a nag to setup the "global settings lock" but after looking at it I choose not to.  So how do I make the "Finish setting up your Kraken account" nag go away?  I obviously do not need to "Finish setting up my Kraken account" as I have been using it for literally years already.

Hi there. There are also options to set up 2FA for funding and trading, and an option to set a Master Key. You can find more information about these other 2FA methods here: https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000426923-Secure-your-account-with-Two-factor-Authentication-2FA-

After setting up all available security methods, the prompt will stop popping up.

Right I see that.  I don't want 2FA on everything, that seems excessive and annoying.  I just want the prompt to go away.  Are you saying I have to have 2FA on for every option to make it stop?

Thanks!

It has less than 4GB so that means I shouldn't be able to mine ethereum Sad

Eventually even 4GB won't be enough.  You have to have enough RAM to load the entire DAG into the GPU RAM.  See here: https://investoon.com/tools/dag_size

It says ETH DAG is just barely under 3GB, but 3GB cards have already started to have problems and stop working.  Very soon no 3GB cards will work at all if people even have any that are still working right now.

PC specs:
Intel Core i5-6600K CUP
16GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX960  <--- How much RAM does this card have?

I believe at this point your GPU needs a minimum of 4GB onboard to mine Eth.

What I can find 10170 as I am right.

 Huh

When I check it there are three kinds of memory that it shows:
Approximate total memory; 10170MB
Displayed memory (VRAM); 2007MB
Shared memory; 8162MB

You can use third party tools like msi afterburner.

It used to be that if you dropped a decent amount (like a few k $) you could buy gear that would pay you back at least double that in a year or so (really it was even better than that in the early days).  Now though you can't even break even it seems.  People are willing to dive in with new gear with the shittiest margins, or maybe they don't even calculate it any more.  ASIC's go for much more than they are really worth now in my opinion so that I don't even want to buy the brand new ones even though I used to buy anything from a reputable company as soon as it was available.  I have a pile of old ASIC's and GPU's that really aren't worth anything now and those are just the ones I didn't resale when I upgraded.  I don't know who is making money on mining anymore.  I have a few things still running but I haven't bought anything new in like 18 months and the few things I still have going are going to be shut down before too much longer.  I have been mining continuously for just over 6 years but the day when I am doing no mining at all is fast approaching.

I'm not as familiar with ETC but can you choose your fee?  It has happened with BTC in the past where someone put the amount they wanted to transfer in the fee and the amount they wanted as the fee in the transfer portion of the transaction resulting in an enormous miner fee on the block that included the transaction.  Does ETC work this way?  Maybe someone is dumping coins to miners on purpose?

I'm going to guess he is referring to some obscure X15 coin that seems to be worth .10 on some two-bit exchange like yobit but has no actual order book depth and only like $2 a day in actual trade volume.

I look forward to being wrong though  Wink

I don't think the Bitcoin SV vs ABC drama is the reason for bitcoins rapid decline id say there are bigger reasons for that

Totally agree.  One crap coin forking into two crap coins is not likely to make people decide to dump BTC all of a sudden.

Unless your miner is exposed directly to the internet (and that would be a bad idea if it were) then they have to be getting in from some other device on the local network.  Have you looked at the possibility that your computer or internet modem are compromised?  Is UPnP enabled on the modem?  If so disable that shit (and do a reset at a minimum but a firmware update would be better).  You seemed to indicate that you knew the IP of the hacker, it can't hurt to create a firewall rule to block them.

  • The units are physically identical to PinIdea. The PinIdea's Raspberry Pi was custom fabbed and had a golden PinIdea logo on it, I would be interested to see if that is still present on the ZigMiner controller board.
  • The specifications for the ZigMiner R1 is identical to the PinIdea RR-200/210, and not similar to any other Cryptonight miner on the market.
  • The specifications for the ZigMiner D1 is identical to the power draw per-chip for the PinIdea DR 100 Pro.
  • The firmware on the ZigMiner Z1/Z1+ has a few files that explicitly mention PinIdea, and the general structure of the firmware is identical to the firmware on the RR-200/210. The RR-210 used the same FPGA_download.sh file in /root to upload the bitstreams to the FPGA controller.

Where do you see these other zigminers that you mentioned?  Does Dayun even have a website?

My guess: After selling a lot of G28 and the profit of groestl drops, they will release groestl for X10.

Concur.

...Unless you can get a screaming deal on a GPU or something, I think you would be hard pressed to find anything for sale that will pay itself off in under 6 months, even with free electricity.

Yes it seems like all the miner manufacturers these days price for about a year of mining to make your original investment back.  But a lot can happen in a year: more efficient miners released for the same algorithm, your miner breaks long before the year is up, coin prices crash, etc...  Doesn't seem worth buying anything anymore.

Wondering this too.

EDIT:  Did you find a link to the G28 firmware?  I can't find one.

This is obviously using the same chips as the BK-X and this unit does Groestl so I think we have the proof that Baikal has been able to mine Groestl with the BK-X.  So when do we get the firmware for that?

I feel like they have been using this on their machines since they were released and now just giving us the firmware.

Well they certainly did not build the capability into the chip by accident.

Re: Today I turned off all the miners I manage

Still mining as well but seriously contemplating turning most of it off.  I have a variety but I only have 7 GPUs and they have been mining at a loss for a few months now.  I want to have something to sit on in case there is a turn around in the markets but I'm very close to calling it on the GPUs.  My S9's are also really marginal these days.  They still make a decent amount per day but they have to be really close to dropping below the breakeven point right now in terms of cost to run.  So I am contemplating turning those off as well.  Have a few other asic miners that are still worth running for the time being but none of those have broken even for the purchase price yet either.

But on the other hand I have been mining for a number of years and my obsolete pile of gear has BFL, asicminer, gridseed, innosilicon, and bitmain stuff in it.  So turning stuff off and piling it in the corner isn't an entirely new concept to me.  Not replacing it with the latest and greatest kind of is new though, and right now I have zero plans to buy anything out there.

Yeah new m10 gear is about 2k once you add the trump tax to it.

So it does not pay to buy them.

I am still not sure if I will get a back bill for 500 usd on the one m10 I got either I beat the deadline by a day or I lost by a day.  So far no bill for it.

Right now my 1920x threadripper is doing well on xmr v8. See how long that lasts.

Wait, isn't XMR v8 the one that started yesterday?

EDIT: Ha!  Nevermind.  I was thinking that threadripper was an asic for a second there.  I had forgotten about the CPU.
