Re-Seated 7950 Heatsink, Now freezes when mining...

I've been running my 3x7950's for a few months with no problems. Tonight, I had one of the cards out while I was working inside my case and decided to pull the heatsink off and apply some AS5. I've re-seated dozens of heatsinks without any problem, but not this time! Now, whenever I fire up cgminer, the temp monitor jumps to 500C on the re-seated card and then the system freezes and needs a hard reset. Any ideas about what I've done to the card? Tips for fixing it?

Took a leap of faith and placed an order over two weeks ago, haven't heard or received anything yet. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the merchant and assuming that this new business is just working out the kinks. Can OP provide an update on how the initial orders are going?

I like the sound of Squarecoin. It'd be an interesting contradiction of the common concept of a physical round coin. I imagine you could come up with a cool logo that looks like a classic coin... but square. It also alludes to the unique property of the coin, which anyone with basic math comprehension can understand and appreciate.

tl;dr +1 for the name Squarecoin

I placed an order with BitInstant during a big dip a couple weeks ago and didn't receive my btc until four days later. They didn't even send me the right amount! I believe their policy is to lock in a price once dwolla funds are received, which means I should have received ~20% more BTC! Their support was very unhelpful and didn't seem to think my issue was important enough to resolve.

New exchanges coming online, competition from newer cryptos, and the introduction of the ability to short cryptos will help smooth out markets.

This is just another fit start from a new currency finding its place. I don't feel the need to be "protected" by the state from the scourge of lower prices.

What a stupid post. Maybe OP is Paul Krugman??? "ZOMG!!! PEOPLE ARE GREEDY"

Shut up and read an economics text book. Hoarding is a necessary function in markets. Without hoarding, aka saving, markets could not prepare for the future.

Rather than start another thread for my mining question,  I figured I'd just tag along with this one...

Building my first litecoin mining rig. I have two like-new 7970's lined up to buy for $700. Is that a good deal? Or, would I be better off going with another model?

I'd love to buy a part of this offering. Unfortunately, the minimum of 50 shares puts it out of my reach. Is there any way I could buy 10 shares?

Re: Pain for metals investors—Silver
by

Bitcoin and silver are great counterparts for protecting your wealth; neither can be debased by governments. Bitcoin is great for digital transactions while silver is not. Silver is a hard, tangible asset with a 6000 year history of being a sound currency. Bitcoin does not have this history and would be of no use to you if access to the web was unavailable. Would Bitcoin have been of any use to the Egyptian protestors in the midst of their revolution? I love my electronic gadgets as much as the next nerd, but I'm not about to become wholly reliant on them.

Bitcoin poses a major threat to fiat money, not commodity money. IMHO, if you own Bitcoins, you ought to also hold some precious metals since they share similar characteristics. I much prefer silver to gold since the elites do not have the silver market cornered like they do gold (most of the world's gold is held in vaults, the same is not true for silver due to its relative abundance).

If this is to be the premier exchange, then having merchant software integrated would be a good idea. What I mean by merchant software is the ability for consumers to pay directly and instantly out of their wallets into the merchant's at a real-time local currency exchange rate. Based on my conversations with brick and mortar merchants, if they could easily (without waiting for transfers between BTC wallets) swap between BTC and local currency, they would be much more likely to adopt BTC.

Re: The continuous rising compare to USD isn't good for BTC
by
nuggets4all
on 09/06/2011, 05:12:03 UTC
Bitcoin was and still is an incredibly small market, even at the recent high of about $30 the entire economy had an approximate valuation of about $200 million which is tiny on a global currency scale.

The number of BTC is finite. As more people come to desire bitcoins, that means there are more dollars chasing up a relatively stable number of BTC. Assuming BTC is destined to become widely adopted on a global scale, $30 is still very cheap. There is nothing unhealthy about the present growth, it has had frequent downward corrections as the price has risen; this is indicative of healthy growth. At some point in the future the growth will likely taper off to a more "normal" rate.

Re: Amazing Tom Woods speech

This IS a great speech. Tom Woods is great.

Here's a site of his that highlights some of the absurdity of political discourse in America today. Today, it seems that when people have no intellectual argument they just point their finger and say "racist!" Yes, I'm looking at you, Southern Poverty Law Center.
