★☆★ MODENERO CONCIERGE ★☆★
Sub-$999 Coin Teller Machine (CTM)

https://modenero.com/concierge

At heart, the Concierge is a Bitcoin Teller Machine (BTM), but it's also so very much more.
Inspired by Project Skyhook, we've made some hardware and software improvements that we'd like to bring to the larger community.

MOST NOTABLY, WE'VE:

    1. Upgraded the Bill Acceptor from an Apex 7000 Series to a JCM UBA SS-24
(will accept ALL currencies, most notably Euros greater than €20)

    2. Replaced the 7" Nexus Tablet with a 9" Capacitive Touchscreen
(changed the orientation to landscape to better support multimedia)

    3. Upgraded the Raspberry Pi from Gen 1 to Gen 2
(w/ 6x more power - needed to run the highly interactive user interface)

    4. Added Open Source Hardware to the Free and Open Source Software
(all hardware specs, 3d models, schematics, etc will be made available)

★☆★ INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN ★☆★

http://igg.me/at/lil-bodega

Currently finalizing an Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign set for a “soft” launch on Friday, March 6th.
The “official” launch will be on Monday, March 9th with the debut of the Generation–2 Concierge.
I'm actively looking to build a team of Digital Currency enthusiasts to join the campaign.

LOOKING FOR THE FOLLOWING CAMPAIGN TEAM MEMBERS:

    - Graphic Artists (PS, Illustrator, etc)

    - Media Producers (After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc)

    - Hardware Engineers (Microelectronics)

    - Software Engineers (Full Stack, Python, JS, Bitcoin, Altcoins)

    - Public Relations (Press, FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc)

Please review the Product and Campaign websites and PM if you're interested in joining the team in one of the above roles.
In most cases, we'll be adding multiple people per role – Lead and Support.
In addition to being paid for your work (to be negotiated in bitcoins), you will also share in the campaign's Bonus Pool, based on your contributing work.
The Bonus Pool will be approximately $100 (the current margin over cost) for each machine pre-order over the goal.

* NOTE: As much as I appreciate the anonymous nature of this community, any interested parties will be required to use “real” and “public” profiles (e.g. FB, LinkedIn, etc).
Please forward any and all applicable links with your message.

Looking forward to building a strong team to see this project through.
Any and all feedback is more than welcome...

Cheers!

definitely don't want to stir up any trouble with this campaign re-launch.
sent a pm to the mod for clarification.
originally, this campaign was to target newbies, who couldn't post anywhere else but in this section.

where did you get the sources from?

the last working version that I know of is:

however, as the last update was over a year and a half ago, you may have your work cut out for you.

good luck

Re: ChromaWallet (colored coins): issue and trade private currencies/stocks/bonds/..
by

@killerstorm

as v0.9 has just been released with OP_RETURN, which I am just now getting a handle on how it all works, is this protocol change something that you plan to implement into colored coins? or feel that it can be advantageous to colored coins?

e.g. OP_RETURN [hash160 of genesis address -OR- genesis tx hash]

what I'm thinking is that you could spend from a colored address / account without creating a colored tx; unless OP_RETURN was used as an indicator. that would be great to prevent accidental spends. this would mean tracking balances by address and not by outputs (which seems easier to me).

you could, in theory, empty an address' balance, then replenish it simply to make a colored tx.

you could also potentially spend to multiple, independent colors within the same tx (using multiple OP_RETURN outputs).

validation would still require a reverse search to verify that the address does in fact have a balance of colored coins.

just some ideas...

can someone from rmbtb discuss ur future plans? I really love ur platform. it's not only a great alternative to btchina, but also one of the best exchanges in the global community.

as I prepare to ramp up my own exchange activities I'm extremely nervous about the future of bitcoin in China.

specifically, what happens when cny can't flow in and out? what services could u then provide?

Re: Bitcoin Nightlife FAIL
by

Some of the software I've seen for accepting Bitcoin has more bugs and problems in it than Fallout New Vegas on launch, the only real way to do business right now seems to be doing everything manually.

The BitPay FAIL was a huge letdown for me. I questioned why they couldn't just pull up their tx log to see if my tx showed up. The manager just said he'd cover our drinks, but that didn't sit well with me. The following 2 txs went through without a hitch. For a "casual/first-time" Bitcoiner that could have been all she wrote.

Damn, $15 shots? Is that normal? I'm not of legal drinking age (in the US) but I've bought them in other places and they were like $4 max.

only in NYC (which is why i now live in ATL)

Also saying 5/10 doesn't make any sense because of the way you are rating your "bitcoin night".

I was just hoping to minimize my fiat expenditures; but ended up spending almost as much in USD as BTC. We arrived too late for dinner and it was an event night; that really threw things off.
------------------------------------

I have a lot more respect for Kashmir Hill and the Bitcoin Newlyweds. I'm working on a project of my own and this experience served as a baseline as to the State of Bitcoin.

I'm actually hoping to make it back tonight (early enough for dinner). I envisioned EVR as a place that I could take BTCurious to show them what its all about. But I don't want to be spending fiat at every turn. Kind of goes against the point.

Bitcoin Nightlife FAIL
by
nyusternie
on 08/08/2013, 08:50:30 UTC
After months of anticipation, I finally had the pleasure of visiting EVR the "most popular" Bitcoin bar in the US.

Here is a breakdown of my expenses tonight (8/7):

FIAT (USD)

Tappan Zee Bridge - $5.00
from Rockland County to New York City

Cover Charge - $20.00
just happened to be an event night (Playboy & Swingers??? ummmm ok)

Food - $30.00
kitchen closed at 10pm so we ate across the street

Tip - $15.00
very good bar service

Bathroom Attendant - $5.00
ultra nice bathroom

Gas on the Palisades - $10.00
rough cost of the round-trip

Bitcoin (BTC)

4x Martinis - 0.62 BTC ($62.00 USD)
2x Shots - 0.31 BTC ($31.00 USD)
(drinks were awesome)

Highlights

+1 FREE Parking
FREE street parking was available (about 1 block away) on 38th & 6th. Sweet!

+1 Cool Scene
Showed up in jeans and sandals. Was worried when I saw the bouncer behind the velvet ropes (on a wed night, really?), but everyone was really cool.

+3 Met Charlie Shrem
He was coming out as we were going in. He took one look at us and knew we were there for Bitcoin (lol) -- with a pretty girl on his arm, he still took the time to convo with us (#SuperNiceGuy) Promised a FREE round if we pay with BTC (I guess on a non-event night). Told me that BitInstant would be back this weekend??? Fingers crossed Smiley

+3 Met a few people at the bar talking about Bitcoin

+2 "Successful" txs took on a couple seconds

Issues

-2 BitPay Fail
Our first round of drinks failed on BitPay. Extremely discouraging for my first in-person btc tx. However, the manager was more the agreeable (when I showed him my tx log) to cover the drinks.

-2 Cover Charge & Gratuity
It would have been nice to be able to pay the cover and bar tip in BTC.

-1 Bithow?
All the staff had heard of it, but virtually no one knew how to use it. Was that an iPad Mini? Android would have been nice Tongue

TL;DR
My first attempt at a Bitcoin Night in NYC ended in spending $85.00 USD and 0.93 BTC ($93.00).
Not what I was hoping for. Rating 5/10

Thank you very much -- do let us know if you have any problems. We switch on the trade engine tomorrow, and will be giving away 0.5BTC and a year of waived trading fees to the first people who have their trades executed!

just executed my first trade and no problems at all; very nice system with great details over a well thought out ui. would absolutely recommend this over btcchina.

Moving or withdrawing coins from our blockchain.info account requires intervention of an RMBTB administrator, with a separate key and password that is never stored electronically.

what is the average turnaround time for a withdrawal to btc? will requests be processed 24 hours a day? your security practices are the best i've seen, however, I am concerened how that will affect convenience.

just submitted a withdrawal request that shows "Awaiting Review" (23 May 04:36:05).
i'll update here the time that it takes to deliver.

Re: Why Ripple is Superior to Bitcoin...
by
nyusternie
on 11/05/2013, 01:45:56 UTC
What page are you referring to?

It only matters that it's closed-source if they don't open the source to the public after it's out of Beta like they promised.

But, because you guys can't seem to get your brains off the little details (or even the big details) that are irrelevant to the big picture...

Imagine for a moment that Opencoin keeps their server software closed for YEARS.  That's right YEARS.   And during those years they manage to get all kinds of financial providers to use their system.  They help them create custom front-ends so that it works seamlessly with the current banking system, people have apps on their computers, etc. etc.

Then once a critical mass of adoption as a payment system has been reached, they release the code to the public... and the code reviewers find that XRP is just as secure as Bitcoin.    At that point, does it matter?  I think not.   I think xrp would rapidly become the most valuable virtual currency simply because the payment system ecosystem would make it the most trust-free asset to have within that system.

It doesn't matter if Ripple is the system that makes this happen or some other system.  The important thing is (IMHO), is that PAYMENT SYSTEM adoption must come first and must be inclusive of existing legal tender, and that payment system adoption will lead to better widespread adoption of the virtual currency vs. doing it the way Bitcoin (backwards).  The thing is - all Bitcoiners think that every currency must come up the same way.   That is not the case.

lmfao .. oh man! i have just been waiting for anyone to claim this. and no; i don't believe you speak FOR open coin inc, but its still good to hear someone FINALLY just say it.

furthermore; what kind of a masochist must you be to step into a crypto-community board and argue in favor of, "TRUST US! we PROMISE! we'll do the right thing EVENTUALLY"? this thread made my stomach hurt, but i haven't had a good laugh like that in quite a while.

thanx op

i'll try to digest it over the md weekend -- look forward to discussing

Check out the 4th post and see if that helps. The money supply is intended to expand when the people deem it necessary, and do so without using much energy, while also retaining bulletproof security and using an insignificant amount of energy when no new money is necessary.

read the post and it sounds sweet-as-hell, but i still don't get it
there is just soooo much to read; i promise i'm not lazy, i'm just incredibly busy
perhaps some pictures would help summarize the details?

Hello, I'm Etlase2, and I am tackling this problem. One way to ensure transactions remain fairly honest is to charge a percentage fee rather than a flat fee or a fee based only on bytes/coin age. This is possible when you use an account ledger system instead of a transaction ledger. For this and a million other details, click the link in my sig.

that's quite a read; do you have a cliff notes version?
