Re: Who is so dumb here to use Windows 10?

There are a lot of Windows 10 anti spying software, which anyone can install. And keep in mind that, not all people have enough computer skills, to use Linux  Wink

IMHO anyone who is able to install anti-spy-software (and knows about it) is able to run linux... try elementary ;-)

(btw i wouldnt trust any spy software with an automatic updating os. and running an os without recent updates is a bad idea too - so i dont think anti spy software helps you here - or do you expect your "not having any computer skills"-user to check that their anti-spy-software is really working by sniffing network streams?)

Re: Big block support observer

Q. How many blocks does Bitstamp mine in an avg two week period?

A.  Zero.  None.  Zilch.

Here I am, necromancing the "Big block support observer" thread from last year.

I observe that big block support is #rekt.   Cool

And where is knight22?  Ashamed to show his face in public, logging in but not posting.

Aww poor thing.  Did the mean old iCEBREAKER crush you under 75,000 horsepower of nuclear-turbo-electric force?

what i dont understand about you iCEBREAKER: why are you supporting monero?
do you know that miners control the blocksize there? (it has a penalty if they grow a block too much though)

how can you support a coin with bigger blocks and at the same time be against a blocksize change for bitcoin?

Re: [POLL] Opinions about forks as a voting mechanism for blockchain changes
by

bad idea, i want that they simply focus on the main subject here, the block limit, nothing else, all the other features can be added in another time or anyway they can be added in core

actually classic is still core, every oen of those fork is core, they just changed the name at will, because they want to say "we have made this", which is stupid for a decentralized project like bitcoin

you are right that it is important for them to focus on core.
do you have any suggestion how difficult blockchain protocol changes can be proposed without all that hate and FUD we see right now?

IMHO that hurts bitcoin more than anything else did.

[POLL] Opinions about forks as a voting mechanism for blockchain changes
by

i am wondering what people think about classic/xt like forks for changes made to the protocl.
Please dont make a blocksize or Gavinista debate out of this

personally i think its a good idea. but i would like to see some dev-support for it (eg make sure any transaction happens in all forks until one clearly wins - even if that means that coinbase tx are unspent for a while; this could be fixed by using merged mining).

for me bitcoin should be decentralized. this includes development.
IMHO to allow and support forks like this seem to be the only way to avoid dev-centralization

yes, they may cause some market-confusion. but IMHO (again) this could be fixed by tools.

what do you think?

Re: Who is satoshi POLL
by

on 18/01/2016, 18:04:41 UTC
No one from the voting options. Only Satoshi knows who or what he is. We can only use our imagination and speculate on who might be him or her. Just forget about it.

For what reason shoul he/she never have mentioned his name somewhere? WHy staying anonymous?

because for a DECENTRALIZED currency a leader is just cancer.
he may be afraid of some three-letter-agencies too

Re: "Bitcoin Classic" is a classic attempt at a hostile takeover
by

If Bitcoin Classic wins then Gavin is going to be the "benevolent dictator" (which I think has always been his desire).

Do you want him as the overlord?

I guess that is the question (personally I am happier with the Bitcoin Core team as it stands).

in case classic classic wins and gavin would act as a benevolent dictator it would just lead to another fork which fixes it.

what is your problem with a bitcoin fork?
i think its the best way to decide blockchain related questions.

it may create a little confusion but that wont last long.

IMHO its the only way to decide such problems for once and forever without having FUDs later.

Re: "...then I will have no choice but to declare Bitcoin a failed project"
by

Unsigned Message: Thats not satoshi...

satoshi would know that a signed message is needed if he is interested that his opinion is recognized

That would make that particular issue settle by his intervention BUT it would reinforce the point that if an authority can impose their opinion by their "status" then the system is broken.

It would create a precedent where in each dispute satoshi must say his opinion with a signed message which would in turn prove that BTC is centralized around his decisions.

you are right.

but your poll suggests that this message is from satoshi. so i am not able to answer it...

i actually believe that:
1) satoshi is pro bigger blocks
2) satoshi wouldnt have a problem with forks (like xt or classic) to solve such issues (aka let the users decide)

i cant prove it though...

Paul Vernon can't continue as the boss of Cryptsy, right? So who should take it over buy them out and run Cryptsy? Don't say Mark Zuckerburg.

IMHO they need to die or atleast remove ALL persons who knew about the theft and remain silent (but how to prove this?)

No a possible legal battle over the cold wallet. I think the court would freeze it until ?

you should not use bitcoin-cores account feature for a site as the result wont be what you think (please search in the tech section for the exact reason).

Re: Should this person be considered as scammer?

bidding in an auction seems like a binding contract to me. if someone bids and goes missing when he has to pay i think he is a scammer.

but no money is lost; so its hard to tell.

what about this scenario:
someone makes an auction
a few people bid
highest bidder goes mia for a week
seller sells to the second highest bid
highest bidder come back and wants his item... in this case the seller is the "scammer"

so please just write your auctions carefully and handle that case (eg highest bidder needs to react in 48h otherwise next one gets it)

in none of this cases i'd leave a negative rating though. but i'd place a neutral and i wouldnt trade with him.

I received BTC from ~PayPal-Trader~ on the forum and he sent me this txn link but I don't see any notification of BTC received in my coinbase wallet.
Can someone pls tell whats wrong here? Shall I pay him or wait for at least 1 confirmation? Can it be reversed?

https://blockchain.info/address/1Atv5LPgx5auEWnovRua7BwbqoZ6ZFdutE

you should wait for at least one confirmation and please double check the receiving address (i dont kow him.. maybe he is a trusted trader here)
