Re: speculation: Barry's SW+2MB compromise will preserve ASICBoost

dumb question - why can't everyone else use asicboost too and level the playing field? even if it's a bitmain chip only thing, there are enough bitmain machines out in the wild.

* It's not in the interest of everyone else, only in the interest of the miners
* there is a security advisory for this, so it's officially harmful
* Patents
* Bad precedent

the reason it's "different" this time are all those altcoins. the combined market cap is already going up vertically. the main question is, how artificial is this, and how many of those who bought into this recently (bitcoin or alts) will continue to hold some stake? my feeling is, it might not be bitcoin, but there is a large influx of new capital which is going to stick in the near future.

This isn't like a public company, where the market cap is approximately the price to buy the entire company. You cannot buy all the bitcoins.

You also cannot by the entire company by their shares. E.g. if I had a GOOG share and I don't sell it, you can jump around as much as you want and you won't get it.

more seriously, it will rebound a bit and then retest at least 1620 or a bit below. if that's broken, the next targets below are 1530 and 1450

you will see that the implementations that are not blockstream endorsed DO NOT want to split the network

is BU a hardfork or not?

... so from what i understand ...
yes, from a high point of view it's not hard to understand. a softfork introduces tighter rules, which make some commands that are now always true not always true in the future. that's why it's backwards compatible, because older clients will still accept the newer stuff. a hardfork truly changes a rule, which makes it no longer backwards compatible and there will be instances of a test for a rule, which is true right now will no longer be true with BU.

https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

Which fee should I use?

Use the lowest one where the lower bound for the block time is still 0.

I think right now the whole crypto space is already too heated up and we'll see again a long period of weak hands getting out of the game. This time, altcoins will be bubbling and bitcoin will be going up when they start to struggle. That's when a spike above $2000 is possible, but only as a spike. I wouldn't be surprised to see sub $1k at the end of the year.

Re: Why Bitfinex is that much more than other sites?
by

less btc sellers on finex, probably because they fear something bad is already going on there. what's rather puzzling is why someone would buy btc at that premium at all. maybe some have no choice?
