Pokey, did you tape/cover the bottom fins on those S5's? Lots of air escapes from the bottom if you put them on a bread cart type cart. Can easily use blue painters tape or something. Not talking about a huge difference in temps, but a difference. And every temperature point counts for the life of the miner.

I took a shot at cornering the paperclip jumper market not too long ago. Some interesting Q's and A's in there if you have a second. Took a page straight out of the High Def HDMI Cable market.

Serious question did you ever get some attempts to buy any?

I'm not going to point any fingers. But if you read through it, seems a few people get a little bit fuzzy on if this is real or not. And if real, of course they'd order some!

The guy with the cock ring sounded serious, but Homie don't play that.

He was saying just add the paperclip to the modular connector that houses the PS_ON wire and ground, that way you do not need the large 24 pin cable at all.

I personally find that hideous to look at so I make small jumpers (switched and non depending on layout) with the correct female connectors for all my modular PSUs.  It is much more zen for me.  Smiley

What do you find hideous to look at? And remind me not to invite you over!

I've had these running just a couple days as they are, PSU didn't show till Saturday afternoon. Wanted to get the height right for the air intake. Later this week the third amigo arrives, re-introduce a CX750M, then do some cable management and use some zip ties here and there... will be fun to look at soon.

I'm so happy with how quiet they are.. I'm just happy.

Its a better solution than paper clip!
image of the antminer clip-on

I have and prefer this method, looks much cleaner!
I have a lot of dully-modular supplies. The EVGA can be paperclipped directly at the back of the PSU and you wont have a fat 24pin cable getting in the way at all

I hate to ask... as I've got a number of these Antminer kill switches / paperclip replacements... but how do you paperclip the evga 1300 G2 "at" the PSU? Because honestly unplugging that huge 24pin cable and putting it back in the box would clean things up that much more.

Then again... arranging, re-arranging my miners is as much fun as mining itself. I had a rack of S1's and went through a few summertime setups trying to get rid of the heat. Absolute insanity hearing 5x PSU's running AND the A/C unit running non-stop. Anyway, here is basically the reverse of what I've got going now.

Just boxed up Corsair CX750M's and pulled the stock fans out of the S5's. Replaced those with Corsair SP120 fans. Replaced PSU's with an evga 1300G2 Supernova.

Right now window cracked open - running cold air intake mode! Once I figure how they will rest will secure them then get on that red cable management. What a mess.

Couldn't be happier with the new fans or the new power. Love these machines, especially now that they are liveable and silent compared to stock.

I have not, but I'm very interested in learning more! Please, educate me. Looking at it again, you are talking about sealing the bottom to get more air pushed through instead of having it dissipate out of the bottom. What materials do I have here at home suitable for this that won't catch on fire? Smiley Also guessing a single board or similar that all sit on flatly would do the same trick.

Also, have a fan behind them blowing air out, creates nice air flow at the intakes.

Luckily hit the jackpot connecting with an old friend lately. He's got dozens of fans and controllers and all that good stuff. Soon will have high end fans in a push pull with speed controllers. All at the best price possible!

thanks opentoe!

I ran the SP120 High performance on my S5's and they couldn't cut it. Ambient temps were about 65F and the temps went straight to 65 or higher. Soon as the warm weather sneaks in, those fans will not be able to cool it sufficiently. I opted for the Noctua NF-F12 3000. Used two of them on each S5 and brought the temp back down 10 degrees. A lot less noise than stock fan, but not silent either. In between, but dooable in situation.
Good luck!

Winner winner chicken dinner! The SP120's work when it is cool outside and that air is useable. When I stuck my hand to the back of the miner with the SP120 it was pretty clear there was not much air being pushed out the back. The noise reduction is so worth it.

So! Had issues with the used S5s I bought. Basically they had been to Bitmain before for issues, continued issues which were passed on to me. So... one machine should be back tomorrow, fingers crossed it is good to go.

Have my PSU's and miners right where I want them. Did not want to molex in and start adding fans. Have picked up / arriving soon a 4x Rotary AC powered fan controller. Plug 3 or 4 pin directly into it, 12v with 1amp per fan max, total of 2.8amp across the 4 fans. Have 15 fans behind me that will be picked and added. Looks like:

Scythe 1200 rpm 69 CFM fan at 24dBA to replace the stock in one S5
Rear fans - On the controller will add 2x Scythe 3k rpm and 1x San-Ace 3k rpm. Can spool those up as needed. I posted a pic of my old S1 setup with the exhaust being pushed outside. Plan to build a shroud and have these S5s dump heat right outside once the weather starts sticking in the 70s.

I love it as I get to take my stuff apart again and rewire. Want it clean! I did add a cutting board underneath to help with airflow at bottom. No major difference there.

more pics in a few days!

In the US, easy to work with. If you have a machine to sell I'm ready.

Not in a rush or desperate, not going to pay crazy money.

thanks!

What are you willing to pay on them, I have plenty.

Are you actively selling your machines? How many machines do you have and how many are you looking to get rid of?

Let me know what we are working with and your level of interest, please. If you do want to get rid of one or more let me know about the machines? How old, what batch, any mods or overclock, any errors or heat issues?

look for a PM. thanks!
