Re: How to read through a 1000+ page C++ book
by

I find most programming books boring as well. What I find helps me is to have a specific project in mind and while going through the book I imagine how each section could be used in my project. That helps me understand the subject matter more easily and remember what I read. Then when I start the actual programming and get stuck on something, I will go and re-read the relevant sections.

Starting a business to exchange Bitcoin with PayPal by only accepting irreversible transactions and only offering reversible ones does seem very suspect. It is always better to have multiple options for using your Bitcoins, which can only make the Bitcoin ecosystem stronger, and I hope that this is legitimate.

And I believe Postcode GL9 is in Bristol not Glasgow whre the Registered address and phone number point to

Is there a limit to the reported active connections for the client? I can get no more than 30 (currently at 25).
I suppose it doesn't really matter it's just a matter of curiosity.
FYI: I have UPnP enabled

Thanks for any replies

Does this help any?

Code:
Basic *nix build instructions:
To actually build:

./autogen.sh # only needed if building from git repo
CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" ./configure

No installation is necessary. You may run cgminer from the build
directory directly.

But when I minimize it, the program closes, and won't open again.  What is happening?

Bitcoin-qt might minimize to system tray. Does it say "Cannot obtain lock on data directory ... ... Bitcoin is probably already running." when you attempt to open it again?

Well, in that case bitcoin is already running, like it says. All you have to do is open it from your system tray, which is located at bottom right of your screen should you be using a Windows OS of some sorts.

This had me wondering a couple of times. Especially if your PC runs 24/7 and you have Windows hide inactive icons in the tray, you can forget you had it running. Upside is you don't have to wait for it to recheck the blockchain

Yeap 4 hours of ACTIVE reading. I believe you have to do a click within something like 5 minutes to not be considered inactive.

The big question is if they have already placed another chip order as the current one will probably be used in the first couple of days' orders

Re: Skipping newbie jail

Omg, why would anyone pay for something like that?

I admit I had some problems in the start, my time did not update accordingly to my browsing - but then I just set autorefresh on one of my tabs in firefox, and let that sit for 4 hours.

If that site would offer insta-jailskip I would understand, but its the same 4 hours wait

I think the general argument (from what I can tell from reading the newbies subforum) is that not everyone has 4 hours to actively use the forums. Sitting still on a single page for 4 hours does not constitute visiting for 4 hours afterall. The site says it's 0.01BTC which is about $1 right now. I've seen people pay 3 BTC just to troll me personally and some people pay 50 BTC just to run libel campaigns against Ripple, so obviously everyone here values things differently.

I believe that especially for a "Business" account you should be able to spend the 4 hours browsing. Think of it as time used to plan your ad campaign or doing market research.
