So hyped for poirier last fight
Really really hope he wins convincingly. Would be a fitting send off
That did not happen and he did not get the storybook ending everybody had hoped for.
He got dominated in the first round with a knockout but recovered and it was mostly a standup fight.
So it was a Holloway showboat of a fight with his superior boxing skills helping him in the end win by decision.
The card was starting off great with I believe the first five ending in finishes. I lost count after so many and it was like that the last time they went to NOLA a decade ago alot of finishes.
But by the time the main card started they were mostly ended all by decision. Two major upsets with Zellhuber & Holland losing where they were both 1.16x odds.
Overall it was a impressive event and well worth it to watch again because I missed a few of them including the Paulo Costa fight. Which was also an upset.
Yes, it was a great card. And regarding Paulo Costa, he hadn't won a fight in almost three years, coming off two consecutive losses. But now he must have gotten the hang of it and should soon be ranked again in the division. His resilience and willpower are impressive.
That was one of the better fights and Vettori vs Allen won fight of the night although it was also one-sided in favor for Brendan.
Once Costa had that loss to Adesanya where he got really beat up, he just wasn't the same fighter after that.
Those long string of losses on his record did not look good at all and thought he might of retired that night the same as Poirier if he did not get a win over Kopylov. But he did his job and was now asking for a title fight.
So Costa thinks he can hang with the big boys in the division once more.
He must feel really good to get that monkey off his back and ready to get back into action again.
Main went fight went just like I expected.
Full five rounds and Holloway winning on points by unanimous decision.
Poirier only chance was to move fight on the ground, but he is retiring from UFC with a loss.
Is Topuria going to be the next fight for Holloway?
Many were saying it was going to Holloway since he was looking alot better at the top of this new weightclass and he did deliver. But alot of people were also saying that Poirier was going to put up a fight since he was 2-0 before that third fight. But we were all disappointed by Dustin this night.
Since Topuria just fought Max back in UFC 308, I don't think we will see them fight so soon.
