Support full bitcoin integration in Gittip
by
reedlaw
on 19/09/2013, 00:35:32 UTC
I've opened an issue proposing how bitcoin could be fully integrated into Gittip.com. If you know what Gittip is and support this, or have any suggestions on how to implement recurring payments with bitcoin, please feel free to add to the conversation on the github issue. Comments count as +1 in support of the issue. But of course, only post if you really want to see this happen. I've already issued a pull request for adding a bitcoin address field to the user profile.

Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It

So, do the math. Or look here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=235763.msg3134886#msg3134886

Ask yourself this - for a company that went up 5000% from the IPO, would you consider a fair value overshoot of a couple hundred percent unreasonable? (Don't forget that USD/BTC is up 10x from the IPO too).

I'm sorry if you lost money, but if you do not base your stock trades on facts, math and logic, you are a gambler, not an investor.

At your target price of 1.5 BTC based on projected net profit 10 years from now, 2 BTC is a good deal considering the dividend payments which will quickly add up to greater than 2 BTC even if the price goes down to your target.

Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency
by

I am buying XPM. If you made a large stash consider selling some to me as your appreciation of my work. Note there is no premine or tax with primecoin nor do I want donations. But I like to have a stash as well of my creation Wink We can negotiate at market price. PM me.

My stash isn't too big, but if you absolutely won't take donations, I'd sell you some well below market rate, like 0.0001 BTC for 50 XPM. If you just want market rate, there are plenty of exchanges to choose from now.

More people have LTC than BTC.  It's quite odd...

Why are all the XPM exchanges trading LTC? Why not BTC?

Is it because we're in the Alternate cryptocurrencies forum? I'd bet in the Custom mining hardware forum more people have BTC than anything else.

Re: [XPM] Mining PrimeCoin using DigitalOcean (VPS)
by
reedlaw
on 10/07/2013, 01:49:24 UTC
By the way, you're the one using VPS services to mine, while I'm mining on machines I own. You call me greedy?

All the debate about using VPS services vs. self-hosted would be settled by consulting the terms of service or contacting DigitalOcean directly. I'm pretty sure Amazon would have no problem with pegging CPU usage at 100% because that's what EC2 instances are often used for. They are on-demand processing power, designed for instant scalability. DigitalOcean, on the other hand, offers a significantly cheaper VPS plan. My instinct tells me they are like the majority of web hosts that oversell hardware with the realization that most users never approach 100% utilization. I'm not saying DigitalOcean cheats, in fact, I've been a very happy customer for over two months now. Just that they may be optimistic in their pricing and will need to adjust prices if a majority of users peg their VPS CPUs.

Seeing this:

Bugs me a bit. Can someone fix this?

I second this.  Change this ASAP.  This is something you will take a LOT of flak for, very quickly if you don't get on it.

Change lines 82 and 85 in /src/qt/forms/optionsdialog.ui and then recompile.

...assuming you know how to recompile

Or better yet, issue a pull request.

WoW... so i buy shares on wednesday, but have to wiat a week to actually get them...... crazy!

It looks like the shares are transferred on friedcat's end but the only way to verify this, other than a PM from friedcat himself, is by dividends as received by your share account address or as visible in the blockchain.

Should we expect a PM from friedcat to verify the completion of the transfer of shares? Or should we wait until the next dividend to see?

Re: 20 Direct AsicMiner shares @3.5
by
reedlaw

If that's the point I don't think that public messages should be given equal priority time wise, mainly because everyone can check a public message timestamp while a PM is, well, private. To me PMs are a way to setup private details, but since the selling thread was public I expect the offers to be public as well, or at least not to expect PMs to be treated like post replies.

furthermore, I already gave full verifiable proof of my ownership in the first post, so your initial request for direct verification by friedcat was somewhat redundant. I can't take your initial offer as an actual one.

After closing my deal with mechs, given the huge increase in price of AM shares, I'm going to close this thread and start a new one with an updated price.

I made a public offer and then used PM to setup a private detail--that is, that I would forego confirmation by friedcat and pay immediately. It would have been nice if you had made notice immediately that my offer was invalid so that I could pursue other purchasing channels.

I already have an escrow setup with rb via John K.

I had other offers by PM that I let pass while waiting for confirmation on this deal. Judging from friedcat's post history it's pretty common practice for him to confirm ownership of shares. Only later after posting my original offer did I bother to verify rb1205's signed message and look at the blockchain to see that the dividend payments match up with the stated number of shares.

To recap:

Offers ready to buy:
  • mechs: 20 shares
  • fforforest: 5 shares

Offers waiting for friedcat to confirm my proof of ownership:
  • innovation: 5
  • reedlaw: 15

Since I've given proof of ownership and friedcat isn't answering my 48h+ message, i'm going to give precedence to ready to buy offers.

I'm sending out a PM to mechs. If he fails to pay within 02:00 of tomorrow 01/07 (server time) I'll send a PM to fforforest, or innovation/reedlaw if either friedcat confirms my shares or they accept my proof.

Actually, I PM'ed you saying I was ready to buy before mechs or fforforest posted here:

Hi,

As the price of ASICMINER shares has risen since your post and we still await confirmation from friedcat, I'm eager to purchase if you are still willing to honor the @3.5 price. I can see that you are indeed a real shareholder by verifying your signed message and looking at the blockchain history to see you've received dividend payments from the official ASICMINER address. So, I am willing to pay for the 15 shares immediately @3.5 without awaiting friedcat's confirmation.

Please let me know if this is acceptable or if you have changed your mind.

Thanks,
Reed

I didn't receive any response from you so I patiently waited as per your rules:

  • I'm not online 24/7, please don't get upset if I don't answer your PMs right away. My timezone is CET.

The rules don't make it clear whether PM's or replies in the thread get higher precedence.
