Re: how to calculate next difficulty?
by

so, as an example calculation:

say difficulty is 1,000,000

last 2016 blocks took exactly 1 week.

does that mean next difficulty is 2,000,000  ...or is it an order of magnitude thing, like next diff 10,000,000?

(sorry, i don't really know how the total network hash rate might affect things like that)

It will be 2,000,000 .
Also, difficulty cannot change more than four-fold in a single retarget (that is, cannot become more than 4 times higher or lower at once).

The code that calculates the new difficulty is in main.cpp file, function GetNextWorkRequired. Code on Github

Instawallet.org -

Why am I not getting NMC, even though I registered by NMC address via signmessage on this page http://eligius.st/~luke-jr/nmc-register.suphp ?
Do I need to do any additional steps?

Hello Thomas!

I really liked your Electrum client - small and immediately usable! The QR showing feature is very useful for mobile clients!

There is a small bug which prevents from restoring the wallet, but I have fixed it and sent you a merge request.

It would be nice to see QR-code printing (for later offline use) and QR-code recognition from the webcam!

I am also a happy customer of CINFU, with 2 servers running there for 3 months already, and I was paying for them in bitcoins! Their support is really fast and helpful! If anyone wants to get a VPS for bitcoins - I suggest go to CINFU http://www.cinfu.com/ !

Hello everyone, I am from Finland, travelling between Helsinki and Turku. Are there any Bitcoiners living in those cities?

Actually, it makes sense at any hash speed, and the question is about how long you are ready to wait for you money :-)

Re: Still not really understanding the wallet

Bitcoin client can handle only one wallet at the same time, and it must me named wallet.dat . You can use another computer (it can be virtual) for running Bitcoin with the savings wallet.

In order to keep the wallet file encrypted while Bitcoin is running, you can use transparent encryption, for example, put /roaming/bitcoin folder in a Truecrypt container. Or, encrypt the whole hard drive :-)
