The link does not work, it shows some sort of an error message. I was under the impression that LN was going to be some years away from implementation which means I may be sorely mistaken and have some reading to do. LN isn't really needed right now but future proofing is highly necessary.

Re: What do you think about this chart?

So we're in line for $2k bitcoin  Undecided before moving on to over $100k in a few years time. I would be willing to wager right now that at least one of those things is going to happen. There was a 1.5 year bear period in 2014 and 3 years between ATH's (I believe this was the longest gap in bitcoin's history). A bear period is needed to restore expectations and move funds from the weaker hands to the stronger hands but if we are going down the same path then it's going to be a complete decimation and I think that with the spotlight not very much on cryptocurrencies and bitcoin it would be unsurvivable. Anything more than a 6 month bear period right now (we're already nearly halfway through that) and I think that it really could be the end.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying this to spread FUD, I believe firmly in crypto and don't see that scenario happening, but if it does I do see it being final.

Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos)
by

Having read through the thread there seem to be a few themes in the responses.

1. What about the fact that people can abuse this by giving merits to friends or alts or buying them.

- This is 100% true but it shouldn't be the basis for not implementing something. It's like saying 'we won't make drugs illegal because people can still get them from other sources'. There is no measure that will be perfect but if it stops some people and makes it harder for others then it's a winner.

2. What about the people that don't spam but haven't earned merit.

- These are the guys who'd lose out in this case, there are people who just don't post much or might have been inactive for a while, it's unfair that they lose out.

The biggest suggestion I have and I've said it before and seen it said before in this thread and elsewhere is to stop JR Member accounts. Right now there is no barrier to entry for these accounts, they just sign up, spam 30 posts and they're ready to earn. Remove signatures completely for JR Members and then that problem is gone.

After the problem of an ever increasing number of JR Members is stopped then it shouldn't be so hard for moderators to keep a handle on things and clean up the rest of the place. I always liked the idea of having some system that flagged accounts to moderators if they'd not received a merit within a certain number of posts for example. It wouldn't be an automatic ban or neg trust but would just bring their accounts to attention.

Wow. Did not expect to come back to this today and see that my English was being bashed  Shocked I find that quite remarkable and hilarious.

Anyway, thanks for your responses. It's a shame such a thing does not exist and it would be a welcomed change but as you've correctly mentioned it's not likely to ever be a priority.

I'll lock this up now, thanks again guys  Smiley

Oh and p.s. bitperson you're absolutely right, born and raised in the UK.

See total Merit for an individual thread.

Hello,

Quick question. I know that you can see the most merited threads etc but is there a way to see the total merit awarded within any thread?

If this doesn't exist I would propose it as a suggestion although I am fully aware it is not all that important.

Thank you for your help.

Kobayashi's movements did not cause the market crash but they certainly contributed to the extent and length of it. The crash was caused by an unsustainable growth and a dearth of people willing to buy at the overly inflated prices in the high teens. It was inevitable that the market would dip. What unfolded by that can be attributed to Kobayashi in some part. It would seem based on the timing of his sells that he was holding out for a higher price and loving life when prices were around 20k but then when shit hit the fan he went in to hyper panic along with a lot of the newbs. He sold a chunk at 6k which is the biggest sign of panic.

Re: Will the geomagnetic storm influence the BTC price again March 18 ???

Chalk it up to coincidence and leave it at that as far as I am concerned. What I would be more concerned with in and around March 18 is the G20 Summit that will be happening. Cryptos will surely be topic of discussion there, I feel like that will have more significant impact than a storm will.

Just wait for there to be negative decisions made at the G20 summit but the geomagnetic storm to get all the credit for the downfall of the market! Curse you solar wind shocks and your hatred of cryptocurrency!

-snip-
I think deleting a thread will be the most effective rather than closing a thread and move it to archival since as you said newbies here in forum will create the same thing over again and it always happens even there is a thread about it and also, mega spam threads just like in bitcoin and altcoin discussions with 40-100 pages of the same answer will make forum dirty so deleting them will make the forum cleaner and saves a lot of space.

Wanted to add some note, not every thread was deleted, some of them were locked.
I guess the reason why some of them got deleted was because it didn't have any value or another thread already existed talking about the same thing.
The one that got locked was because it has been answered/solved, or maybe being spammed a lot. Just a guess, though.

I think the point about them having no value is the most accurate one and I would imagine that the incentive to delete it is to harm accounts that have used it just to increase posts. I can only imagine the number of signature spammers who have not received payments because half of their posts have been deleted and they did not realise.

Re: Suggestion: Raise merit requirements at the lower and highest ranks (@theymos)

Managers are mostly responsible for such posting. For example, even yahoo, sylon and other worthy managers wants from their bounty members 20+ posts per week. It's not easy to create 20 worthy posts.
If it's difficult, then don't apply. Is that not a simple principle to follow?

It's not easy to be a full-stack developer with minor programming experience. Campaign managers should take responsibility, yes. However, at the end of the day, if the campaign member is not sufficiently qualified then they should be booted out. Furthermore, they shouldn't have applied in the first place. If all that they can output is bad quality work, then that's not something that should be rewarded.
TL;DR: You should not be paid for a job you cannot do.

While it may be clear to you that if you cannot post 20 quality posts in a week you should not apply, this is not clear to others. From the point of view of a bounty manager (this is an assumption - I do not know with certainty as I am not one) the more participants and the more posts the better because the signature will be more widespread across the forum.

I acquiesce that because of the financial incentive, this [rank] should be limited. However, that's an issue that campaign managers should take care of: they should punish poor posting quality. And if they allow spam to manifest on the forum, then they themselves should be punished.

Again this is not within their incentive, do you really feel that bounty managers are all that much better than the signature spammers that they reward?

The easiest solution to kill another big chunk of the spam (which I've seen banded around a few times) would be either to make Jr. Member have a merit requirement or to make it so Jr. Members cannot have signatures at all. At least 50% of the accounts in signature campaigns are junior members. We cannot rely on managers to change their rules to only allow members plus because they've had a month and a half to do that and I think I've only seen 1 who has done that.

Disclaimer: I am talking about alt-coin campaigns, I have seen that many bitcoin campaigns are using merit to identify better quality posters.

I am fairly sure that it is against forum rules for campaigns to require you to post things like 'joined' etc. That's probably why it was deleted, although if this is the case I'm surprised that the whole thread was not deleted.

I wish that I knew about this sooner. I would have got a friend to refer me and split the returns with them. Fees really can add up to being a lot over time so this is a big amount of money. Is there any way to create a new account and refer yourself?

Re: Is this a spam message on BitcoinTalk?

He is absolutely new to bitcoin, and he has never before used any of his devices or ids for registering on bitcointalk before. So why is he seeing this?

If this is true then he shouldn't be facing any issues. Is he using some sort of a proxy to access the site or a vpn? It could be that all those such IPs are flagged.

If you're sure he's using a unique IP that's never before been used you can try take it up with someone but as others have said 'just pay the fee'. It's not worth the hassle for such a small amount.

Really great thread. It's no surprise to see Meta coming out on top. It also shows that it really pays to speak a second language with how many merits are about in the local sections.

May I ask why you didn't include a table showing the average per thread and such for the economics section like you did for all of the other sections?

Right, now I know better what you're looking for... Two that I've come across are ICOdrops and coinschedule. I'm sure there are many others if you look around or do a simple google search.

This is a nice little way to look at some campaigns with more reputable managers.

One suggestion, could you add a colour to show if the campaign is open or closed?

I'm quite new in this world.
Could anyone kindly tell me the most reliable site regarding Token's rating?

What exactly is it you are looking for when you say ratings?

If you mean ranked by marketcap (that's the most common measure) then go here:

https://coinmarketcap.com

You can also order by price change, price, volume etc.

If you're looking for something else please let me know and I'll try to help.

This is a really great idea, you have my approval.

When I've visited the altcoin sections it seems awash with 'rate my portfolio' and 'will ethereum reach x' threads. Not to mention all of the speculation threads are mostly just the same one liners repeated.

I think this is probably the spammiest section of the forum still and it would be great to have some serious altcoin discussion in a signature free section.

While I think this would be a nice thing to have, I think it would wind up being more of a novelty than anything else.

Good quality posters can already be rewarded by getting to participate in the best bitcoin only signature campaigns.

I like it, it's like russian roulette but with our own accounts on the line. I'll take you up on the offer, although I'm also fairly happy with the merit I have received thus far  Cheesy
It's good. But holy shit, the paragraph structure makes it sound so run-on in this post:

Does this mean I failed? I'll admit my sentences can get a little wordy at times when I can't quite find the right words. That's something I'm working on, not only in terms of posting on the forum but also in day to day life.
