I am looking to start back up a whole heap of miners I have placed on standby about 1500 in total.

Does anyone know of any reputable/large enough mining hosting facility to recommend and also the current kwh rate that they may be charging?

The m20/m30 series whatsminers seem to not have anyway to disable AB. As for S19 and the like it seems that there is no way to go without AB else the older machines seem to throttle down hashing by over 50%.

Does anyone know of a way to disable Asicboost on the new generation of miners like S19/S19J, Whatminers m20/m30 etc?

It seems like these miners will refuse to has if the stratum sends a version-rolling=false when requested. Is there any way to disable Overt AsicBoost on these miners be it on their original firmware or custom firmware (this is already in the wild).

Basically testing for certain conditions for hash collisions for single and double SHA256, nothing that will break SHA256d but testing some thesis.

If anyone has a large supply of S9, T15, S17, T17 era miners, I might be able to work something out to make it profitable to start those machines up again. Else I may consider to purchase the machines and run them on a separate mining facility (not preferred). Basically I need machines that can run AsicBoost (overt) and non AsicBoost (version rolling).

Secondary to what I'm doing, I think it's good to reduce electronic waste and make some of these legacy machines possibly profitable again.

Hey, Anyone here owns or knows of anyone with >1,000qty of Antminer S9 miners and want to offload them? It could be just the miners/psu or the whole lot including hosting/farm. Always remember that if you trust someone else with your crypto and hope to earn an interest on your holdings, you are always going to be taking a risk on the potential of an interest earned. Nothing is for free in this world and that is what most staking is all about and that is what real physical banks are all about. The difference is that the latter is regulated and have gone through many decades of stress test vs crypto.

A much better idea to hold BTC (only btc) in your own private wallet and wait/pray/hope that it appreciates in value as the number iin circulation drops.

Hosted mining tend to join the ranks of scams and loss making ideas. Try to steer away from them as you can't see or touch the machines.

If you are looking at offsite mining you can always purchase a miner from a reputable source and find a place to house them cheaply.Mining isn't that easy anymore especially bitcoin mining.

I've setup many bitcoin ndoes in the past, mostly running linux and it is fairly simple to do if you follow the instructions online and use a vanilla flavor linux distro.

That said, if you just want to run a node to have wallet and a node to verify transactions for your wallet, you might want to just install a node on a Windows machine as the GUI there will make things much simpler. Depending on your HDD space and time you intend to keep the node online, you might want to run it in a pruned mode to save on disk space. The initial download of the blockchain is needed as well and will be the thing that takes the most amount of time (anywhere from 24hr to a week).

Stratum on its own is not secured and you can easily reconstruct the TCP going through from miner to pool server.

That being said the Stratum V2 being pushed by Braiins would be encrypted while in transit but it is not a standard protocol as yet and doesn't look to be anytime soon.

If you are looking at finding out shares being sent back to pool and the share diff etc, these can mostly be found on the miner's dashboard or via API and might be easier than sniffing and reconstructing packets.

As mentioned by the other old timers here, there is technically NO difference between newly minted coins and new addresses created to receive coins. They are all the same and one is not any less tracable than the other. This is an old myth that has been around a long time.

That said there are people who are willling to pay a bit more to convert fiat money to BTC using the process of mining instead of buying it OTC or exchange. These people/firms want to acquire more BTC but do not want other to watch their addresses or exchanges to know their holdings. Thus for these people it makes sense and they will pay a bit more for the exchange.

I've been solo mining BTC for over 5 years and it is always good to have lower latency to your bitcoin node, however what is more important would be the number of connections your node has up and downstream.

Make sure you open up the listening ports to enable more nodes to connect to your mining node to have faster updates in terms of mempool tx and especially new blocks being found to ensure you don't mine a stale block.

In terms of "chances" of finding a block just because you have a local node, it wouldn't matter for nuts as it is all pure random chance as that is what sha256d mining is right now and there is NO benefit to having a node locally compared to one that issues getblocktemplate jobs from half way round the world.

It is similar to the myth that some shops gives you a better chance to win a lottery just because a few winners were from there in the past. Statistically, the myth is perpetuated because as more people buy from a particular shop it has a higher chance of finding a lottery winner. As more "foolhardy" people queue to buy from the shop the chances of lottery winners from that shop increases just because there are more people/combinations.

If you have multiple blocks in a day, yes invest heavily in low latency setup and have nodes running in the same subnet, but if you are thinking of doing it for fun/luck, best to invest in getting more miners @ the lowest price & electrical cost.

As mentioned by everyone else here, go for something cheap like a USB miner or a second hand miner and run it and see if it is something you'd like to do and if it is profitable given the cost of electricity/capital cost.

Mining especially ASIC mining isn't for the faint of heart or (light of hearing). It is loud, hot and sucks tons of power and isn't a fun thing to do at home for a long period of time unless you are serious and build another shed to house the equipment and pull extra power lines over.

Always know that the cost of the equipment will depreciate and the "break even" goal post tends to shift with each Diff Adjustment or release of new (faster) ASIC miner.

Accidents can happen and especially at a time such as this.

However, occam razor. There may be something at play that is currently not being said and best/safest to always not keep anything on exchanges, have your own keys!

We are looking for bitcoin miners who might want to work out a long term rental of your machines and we will pay above market rate FPPS + x% BTC on a daily basis.

We are looking for SHA256d Machines with direct connection and not via proxy/other rental services like Nicehash/MRR etc.

This is for a cryptographic project that is slated to last between 6 months to 12 months.
