It has a proven legal company backing it. Which makes it different to many crypto currencies. So it will attract a certain type of investor.

Ripple is not a scam. The reasons people say that is because it is not yet decentralised and technically funds can be frozen on some accounts by a central authority, ( but this is the price of conforming with existing regulation as a money transmission company ).

Waves should be better for short term in theory but the less popular coins that have reasonable working tech always seem to but harder when you forget about them.

I have heard of them before from the NXT community and of the NXT wallet they provide. I have not read bad things about them at that community but it is never a good idea to not be in control of your private keys. So I would not use.

They are trying to meet current SEC rules, especially since they are now in partnership with a South Korean Exchange. They need future licenses.

I think most of the team being based in London might help them build business customers. So that is one advantage they have over some other competitors in the blockchain for business sector.

For a Ripple wallet just go to https://xrpchat.com somewhere on that site are easy instructions to create a paper wallet using various opensource github tools used already by their members. Only use the recommeded ones. You can generate your paper wallet offline. However I think you will need to activate the wallet with a small fee of Ripple XRP about 50 now I think. To do this there are a few recommended sites that allow you to pay a small fee in USD to activate your wallet for you. Failing this you could ask someone on the xrpchat.com forum to send 50 XRP to your wallet address to activate it. That is about 12.50 USD now for 50 XRP.

Maybe it will never be traded on big exchanges. I do not think it is necessary as DEX's such as Heat DEX become more popular.
