I wonder if cyber security firms like CipherTrace would be able to trace these sorts of events before they happen... or prove that it was a scam and not just death

Zcash is a great project as is Grin. Looking forward to Elixxir which will compete with zcash and dash but has even greater privacy by obscuring metadata. Will be interesting to see

Re: Cypherpunk calls out Mark Zuckerberg
by

Mark recently wrote a letter discussing his focus on installing end to end encryption of private messages between a user on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook. What people don't understand is end to end encryption does not mean privacy.

Longtime cypherpunk David Chaum, who is known for his invention of Digicash and mentioned inthe Bitcoin whitepaper decided to call Mark out on what true privacy meant and how he intends to bring his latest invention Elixxir to the world.

Elixxir digital payments platform will not only offer end to end encryption for users but will obscure metadata from the transaction.

https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/david-chaums-elixxir-blockchain-launches-betanet-of-the-metadata-privacy-protecting-platform/

I don't know what to make of this, it is like a dilemma because crypto need more exposure and with more than 1 billion facebook users having access to crypto is a great achievement for the space but we all now that firm like Facebook are here for the money and nothing else, so for now I will sit on the fence on this issue

I think that's a valid reason to be in a dilemma with seeing how Facebook could help with mass adoption. But I also think that raises another worry. If we've already seen how easily people take to Facebook and trust them that's just another way for them to continue selling our data for money. What needs to happen is teaching the mass public about why they should even care in the first place

you're right, but think about this. If only 1% of this 1 billion user become crypto friedly or better crypto user, it will mean that some of them will start to use bitcoin of other crypto

Not literally bitcoin to consider, there will be a chance that Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg himself would going to make his own crypto that will be implemented to his platform, at the same time, allow multiple cryptos to circulate facebook based on a country's jurisdiction and privacy.

That's definitely something interesting to think about esp in regards to different countries laws and jurisdictions and how they will handle crypto. We are already experiencing regulations

I think it will stick around for a while but then burn out over time. I don't see as much use for it as some of these other altcoins that are coming out

The more I learn about Elixxir the more i see its potential. I like David Chaum's cMix protocol in regards to preserving privacy. All you need is one single trusted node for consensus which is pretty ideal

I think this partnership with ciphertrace is a smart choice especially if we know the government wants to get more involved. protecting people from large scams and risks is important. just look at the quadradiga case.... that could have been stopped if proper compliance was in place

I agree I think this year has a lot of promising projects and businesses looking to get involved. On the other side of centralized enterprise level coins there are many privacy focused projects rolling out. Grin and Beam are present while projects like Elixxir are in the works of launching some thing soon. Just to name a few.

Re: Is Privacy Coin The Ultimate Way To Preserve Our Privacy In Blockchain?
by
singlecrytpo
on 10/04/2019, 18:16:53 UTC
Then if we are using bitcoin to transact, we can still use it but with the support of a mixer does it? but maybe using privacy coin is much more efficient to use compared to paying transaction fees from bitcoin mixers and websites that is in accordance with it in the market. I want to know, what is "shilling veil" means?
You can use bitcoin mixer for getting untraceable transactions but you know mixer is also sometimes traceable. I have seen a guy mentioning it in the bitcoin technical discussion. That is where privacy coins are needed.

I am pretty sure with cyber security firms such as CipherTrace they can track any bitcoin transaction even if a mixer is used.

Re: facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp Are Down - But Bitcoin is as strong as ever !!!

Waiting for those new apps that will compete and become the better versions of these conglomerates. I keep seeing a project called Elixxir pop on crypto subreddit trying to become the private whatsapp

https://elixxir.io/

Now that's interesting. But the tech giants won't be replaced so easily.

In fact, it's a lot more likely that they will buy the competition than anything else. When the CEO and partners see themselves on the edge of a fierce competition with them and they get offered a lot of money(The one that really get to be considered a threat) then they will most likely sell and live comfortably.

that is always a big fear of mine too esp because people will sell out for money. The Elixxir project seems promising seeing that they have a pretty prominent figure in the privacy and crypto sector

Re: Why are Social Networks like Facebook and Twitter moving towards blockchain?

All interesting points made. Both positive and negative. I am ready to see decentralized social media platforms and not KYC intensive centralized platforms. I have to agree with David Chaum in that article that it seems like Mark is utilizing blockchain as a PR hype since it's in the news now.

I feel that Jack has his heart in it a little bit more than Mark.
Facebook would do it for the PR and to rebuttle all their issues with privacy

Mix Network and group node consensus

A friend and I were trying to discuss their consensus mechanism which looks to be unique to their project. Group or teams of nodes reach consensus at random and it switches up the team each time. Also the precomputation helps with reaching consensus even quicker. What are your thoughts on this type of consensus? Are there any other projects out there doing a similar tihng?
