Re: Bitcoin Miner Power Efficiency -- Why should I care?

Spot on with the article, thanks for taking the time, good material, good refresher.  Definitely points to some solid points as well as good food for thought.  It's fun to look at miners that have been around for about a year; yet their inefficiencies make them obsolete.

...

Law enforcement used to be an honorable profession. Today, it's about statistics, quotas and politics. Right and wrong isn't even a factor. Entrapment laws are intentionally skirted and called something else. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

Thank you for sharing.  I think stories like these are important in building strength, integrity, and keeping each other informed.  Good for you... glad you made that response to him; that was a phenomenal response.

I powered down and sold my ASICMiner stuff last month.  I still have Gen2 Avalon hardware running, but it's getting very close to going too.  Sucking 350W for 100GH.

Right now, I'm making more with 1.5MH of GPUs than I am with 180GH of ASICs.  Roll Eyes

Ironic isn't it?  I have the same.  Making more on scrypt than asic.

Show these retards how stupid and uneducated they are. Insult their logic and grammar. Hold nothing back. I've been trolln' them for the last 3 hours and the zombies just keep coming. We need the best and this forum is where they all are!!!
Bitcoin does not need them. In fact, the world will be a better place if those people and the ones gullible enough to be swayed by them do not hold Bitcoins now. Forget about them.

Absolutely correct.

Acting like an ass is not getting your point across? It puts people on the defensive (see what I did there?)

Be open and discuss, share links to real information.
People don't understand this situation...that's understandable. Right?
Help people understand.
and in my case wait to post until morning and after your morning coffee.

guys I just dunno why dont you focus all that effort in one extra education good article about crypto. For example no one ever did one from praxology point of view, that would be interesting, not?

LOL!! You're right, it is a colossal waste of time, but it was damn fun, and I can't be more proud of my men. They preformed with honor and gallantry. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

You couldn't have said it better.

My thoughts exactly.  I'm actually working on a project which is cryptocurrency related right now but just couldn't help myself.

Hats off to Kevin / BittBurger You actually trying to reason with these retards I'm just insulting them  Grin but wow what a trooper. It's like he types faster than I can read.  Shocked
I don't see anything wrong with venting and throwing some insults back at them.  Most of their statements are slanted, angry, and honestly scary.

IMO it's not worth it.  It's unlikely a comment on an article will every change anyone's opinion or make them go get educated on a topic. Also many are probably just trolling for reactions from people, so they can troll some more.

I saw an article on CNN the other day and the only thing I posted was  "Bitcoin itself is still fine and still here, MT Gox was only a single company. Long term bitcoin will continue to move on".   Something like that.  The amount of hate responses I got from people calling me a "scammer"  or saying "you must have bitcoin huh" or "LOL this is the stupidest thing ive ever read" or "Hows it feel to lose your life savings nerd!".... it went on and on.  I was tempted to respond but realized it's not worth it.  It was quite shocking to see so many responses like that though to what I thought was a logical post on my part.

It is absolutely frightening the amount of ignorance in the world.  And that they take time out to post replies that are absolutely slanted, un-informed, and frankly stupid (lacking any intelligently formed opinion).  They take the word "scammer" like it is a catch phrase. lol  You are right, replying does nothing.  Except maybe help vent some frustration, yet it is not completely positive and more negative posts are found.  Maybe those folks were hired by JPMorgan or BOA or Paypal?  I wouldn't be surprised.... .05 per derogatory post.

It's time to strikes back. It is really annoying most bitcoiners posts is hidden because of the noobs thumbs down. They know nothing about bitcoin. They think mtgox == bitcoin. Based no their knowledge if mtgox is dead bitcoin is also dead. lol

lol.  I completely agree!  Frustrating.  But a majority of us in the Bitcoin community are educated, intelligent, hard working.  It is sometimes hard for folks like us to convey revolutionary products to "common" or "average joe" type people. At least that is what it seems to me. lol

Re: Everyone Panic. There's a lawyer among us. [FinCEN Walkthrough on p2]
by
smith88

Hi everyone. I'm a business attorney in New York City.  I've been involved in cryptocurrency for some time now.  I hope I can be of some help on this board.  I can't give you legal advice via posts, but if you PM me, we may be able to discuss the particulars of your business.

Full disclosure: There's no such thing as an expert or specialist in bitcoin law, and I am certainly not one.  I'm an attorney with experience in securities, civil fraud and other financial matters with particular emphasis in the tech realm.  There is almost zero judicial and legislative guidance out there for us practitioners, so many of us are trying to keep ourselves out in front of every new development as they arise.

I'm daily fascinated by what bitcoin is and what it can become, and I'm looking forward to becoming part of the community!

Welcome with open arms!  There are many among us and I am extremely happy to see folks working to gain a more authoritative stance on the legalities.  Most Bitcoiners (including myself) are tech/geek types (ok that is a sweeping statement but probably accurate)that have been developing hardware, software, ideas, science, math; their entire lives.  We are becoming business men & women; which is good but painful.  As you are probably aware.  I estimate 95% of the community is developing beautiful businesses and careers of some sort or another; all based upon cryptocurrency implementation.  The more wide spread acceptance in the US; the stronger the community will become.  I see legal advise extremely crucial in this time.  And thanks again. Re: Lawsky Says New York Will Adapt Money Transfer Rules for Bitcoin
by
smith88
on 12/02/2014, 20:30:08 UTC
Because bitcoin is so easy to use and setup, it will be hard to enforce strict licensing. It will just be a fee to make up for the fees the banks don't get anymore. Eventually, market forces will drive down the fee into oblivion.

Exactly my thoughts.  I don't think they are concerned with mining operations per say; more in ensuring big exchanges are playing by the rules.  This seems fair in my opinion; it does remove some more speculation; albeit introducing more at the same time...  yes confusing.

Re: FinCEN Publishes Two Rulings on Virtual Currency Miners and Investors
by
smith88
on 12/02/2014, 20:00:02 UTC
How would this ruling impact someone who buys and sells bitcoin in the US, using localbitcoins.com?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) today
published two administrative rulings, providing additional information on whether a person’s
conduct related to convertible virtual currency brings them within the Bank Secrecy Act’s (BSA)
definition of a money transmitter. The first ruling states that, to the extent a user creates or
“mines” a convertible virtual currency solely for a user’s own purposes, the user is not a money
transmitter under the BSA. The second states that a company purchasing and selling convertible
virtual currency as an investment exclusively for the company’s benefit is not a money
transmitter

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It would seem that this second phrase would apply?

So if I buy and sell bitcoins in an attempt to make a profit, using localbitcoins.com (or a similar service), then that activity is not considered to be a money transmitter, subject to the federal and state laws?

In my experience every thing we do here is subject to one law or another.  Even taking a sh!t.  Maybe a gross overstatement but may not be.

You've got to pay if you want to play, in the USA.  (don't quote me, I am thinking that is a song verse)

I wonder if this has anything to with the current behavior of banks lately

Good point.  And I would bet- yes.  Who do I think is responsible for the massive ddos?  Well JPMorgan comes to mind.

Hey fellow GOATCoiners, I am also here for the long haul.  I've sold a few and am still holding and mining.
This alt-crypto can be the best alt-crypto yet.
Like I said a majority of the cryptos being launched are already on exchanges, already on pools, and even if they say they are not premined; they in fact are for there were certain inner circles that knew about them beforehand.
From what I can see GOATCoin was an honest launch and none of the above.

Forget the FUD and the haters; seriously ignore their belittling attitudes.  Every alt-crypto goes through it.
