Re: How I almost become a millionaire
by

In the year 2010,my best friend introduce me to cryptocurrency and he advice me to invest in bitcoin. I felt bitcoin was another ponzi scheme created by scammers to scam innocent people. Today my friend is a multi Millionaire. If only I had listened to his advice,I would have become a millionaire by now.
Think about it this way in the future:

If you have $100 laying around that you wouldn't mind throwing into a fire pit, why not put it into something that is innovative and would have a first-mover advantage? At worst, you lost $100 which is one fancy dinner. At best, you could have 333-1666 BTC now (depending on when in 2010 you would have bought).

Also, playing the what-if game isn't helpful beyond you seeing what lessons you could have learned and how you can chart a different course in your life going forward.

Easiest way to minimize stress and have tempered emotions is to not invest more than you wouldn't mind throwing into a fire pit.

Re: BTC Now Official Currency in Lugano: Another Milestone for Cryptocurrency
by

on 05/04/2024, 02:45:54 UTC
For those still skeptical about cryptocurrency's role in the future of finance, recent developments underscore its growing significance as a payment system.

With major institutions and countries embracing BTC as a legitimate form of payment, the security of BTC holders' future is increasingly evident. Notably, global giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Wikipedia now facilitate transactions in crypto.

While El Salvador made headlines by legalizing BTC as a payment option, the recent decision in Lugano, Switzerland, allowing citizens and tourists to transact in BTC—including tax payments—signals further mainstream adoption. This news is undoubtedly welcomed by crypto enthusiasts, with hopes for more nations to follow suit. For further insights, refer to this article by Cointelegraph:
 https://cointelegraph.com/news/cryptos-role-daily-payments-beyond-lugano
Paying for high-ticket items and tax bills is practical with BTC. Sure, a tx costs a few dollars so while not ideal for legal tender for everyday purchases, these larger payments are worth it due to how fast the payments are. Bank transfers take a preposterous length of time in current year.

Re: $100,000 and $1,000,000 Bitcoin

That's my story. Been around since 2012. Lost access to everything multiple times when laptops randomly decided to kick the bucket.

$1M BTC is certainly possible. I remember when it hit $1000 and was thanking my lucky stars I could convert my Second Life Linden Dollars into BTC. It hit $20K and I thought this train was only getting started. $100K seems all but guaranteed. Probably will see $200K this bull run, maybe even $250K. $1M may require another cycle or two, so 4-8 years, but it can get there, especially if the fiat currency system implodes at the end of the 4th Turning and into the new 1st Turning.

It seems like a no-brainer to open up a 5x leveraged position, with enough dry powder on the side for a 50-60% drop just in case, and ride it to $1M if you trust the exchange and aren't selling the farm to do it.

Re: Bitcoin becoming Legal tender
by

Bitcoin transactions are too expensive to be a viable legal tender.

Monero would be better imo and comes with additional privacy features. Satoshi expressed interested in baking in the kind of privacy features Monero has, specifically group signatures and key blinding, to name two (see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=770.msg9074#msg9074). Nicolas Van Saberhagen (N.S.) is like Satoshi Nakamoto (S.N.). I believe there to be a connection. Maybe Satoshi went on to work with Saberhagen on Monero. I also believe Satoshi would also agree BTC is no longer the peer-to-peer currency minable on personal computers vision he envisioned and Monero is closer to that. Bitcoin is a great investment and store of wealth but as legal tender I think that ship has sailed a long time ago. I guess you could say Bitcoin Cash could be a better candidate for legal tender given the cheaper tx fees but that's a whole other argument.

Angle grinder if you got access to one. Otherwise, you'd need to make a makeshift kiln

Re: Steelwallets and Airport Security - Potential Exposure Concerns
by
spandamoto
on 04/04/2024, 11:35:32 UTC
Hi everyone,

I recently started using a steelwallet for securing my Bitcoin seed phrase, appreciating its durability and protection against physical damage. However, a concern crossed my mind that I'd like to discuss with the community.
Is there a chance that my precious seed phrase might get a bit too much unwanted attention?

I'm not overly paranoid or anything, but the thought of my seed phrase playing peekaboo with security personnel during a manual check doesn't sit right with me. Do those X-ray machines get nosy enough to pry into my steelwallet's secrets, or am I just overthinking this?

Has anyone here had to travel with their steelwallet? How did you play it cool? I'm all ears for tips, especially if there are any ninja moves for keeping the seed phrase under wraps in such situations.
Are there specific types of steelwallets designed to mitigate this risk, perhaps by obscuring the seed phrase in a way that's not immediately visible?

Cheers for any thoughts or shared wisdom on this!
The way you can go about it is to plant at least one decoy word within the steel plate that is NOT part of the seed phrase but one that you've memorized as being swapped out with the real word, which is the one you remember.

It's easy to remember 2 words vs 12 or 24. However, if you have the mental fortitude, you can create a memory castle and remember the entire seed phrase. Similar to how oral traditions have repeated biblical stories for hundreds of years before they were eventually written down

Re: Is there any malware that captures your recovery seed when shown or typed?
by
spandamoto
on 04/04/2024, 09:46:15 UTC
That is why the concept of air gap system exists and we always recommend it in Bitcoin world to those who want to create a wallet with the term Cold Storage.
By being on a clean system that has no connection to outside world, you eliminate "contamination" risk where for example a malware could access and steal your seed phrase.

Agree that, instead of using the mnemonic as a backup, a simple backup of the wallet file like Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Bitcoin Wallet for Android do, does not reduce remote access to your wallet much more, since in these wallets we have to encrypt and then export them to external drive?
The same rules apply here too, if your system can be infected by a malware, that malware can also access the wallet file (encrypted or not) and steal the secrets inside it too.
Additionally the flaw in using the wallet file as your only backup (aka digital storage) is that in this type of storage the data can be lost for different reasons, from physical/electrical damage to the device it is stored on (eg. a USB disk) to data decay. This makes digital storage bad for long term storage.
This is the way. Air gapped is essential if you have any decent amount of BTC. It's liberating being your own back but like a bank, you need to take security seriously.

Re: Crypto or Real estate
by

At the end of the day, it's best to be practical and to not put all of your eggs in one basket, especially with a solar CME the likes of the Carrington Event or larger being able to theoretically take out the entire global technological infrastructure, including every blockchain unless someone houses at least one node in some sort of really good Faraday cage.

Real estate is a tangible asset and always has kept its value
Bitcoin is backed by math and is about as solid of a digital asset we can have. Unclear how it will look once, or close to, when all BTC has been released and transaction fees replace mining.

Personally, both are essential assets in a future-proofed strategy.

Re: Altcoins dead?

I've been in the crypto space since 2013 but followed it since 2012 and I have seen so many coins come and go. Some which had incredibly promising tech being developed never completed their products and went the way of the dodo.

ICOs were a great funding mechanism for a lot of coins but got hit with regulatory scrutiny. Then came other innovative ways to raise funds web3 style like presales, IDOs, IEOs, etc. Even TradFi got involved with funding when VCs started getting involved.

At the end of the day, raising money for altcoins is a lot of work in an increasingly crowded field, and a lot of teams dont have the budget.

AI and DePIN are taking up most of the attention after memecoins. Gaming was the big one last bull but this time I think it's coming secondary to these. A lot of interest is in tokenizing RWAs.
