We're happy to announce our partnership with @SFR10 (UID: 521899). To give you objective, on-forum protection, we've put an escrow-backed bond in place with @SFR10. If we ever fail to complete your exchange and you can prove it, @SFR10 will refund you (up to the posted bond cap).

Good move.  now I can use the service.
Please remove the 24h Volume, as it will make much easier to track incoming coins from https://splash.tf/. Also, update BTC/DAI reserve. Will it always be less than ~$10,000, or do you plan to add more in the future?

Good suggestion on the volume. We'll think about this one. More liquidity will be added very soon  Smiley

To the OP, what about providing a Letter of Guarantee for orders?

i.e I create a order for BTC -> ETH, you'll provide a deposit address for my output address. Generate and sign a letter with the details so I can prove I should have received my coins if anything goes wrong.

We have implemented this. Each letter is signed with 1GCm8xrZY8CczWGCoV9RNrUoSWfoSp1ash (edited the ANN post to include this).  Smiley

Thumbs up for releasing the Tor version of the exchange. I just had a look at it. It's simple and that's fine. I am happy there is a button to turn off the animations because the site is easier on the eyes without it.

One thing that stands out, though, is that big grey box that appears on the top left and towards the middle of the page. The text in it says <MEDIA> and displays the onion address. I am not sure why it's there. Does it have a purpose? My Tor privacy settings are at the highest level. Maybe the box would look differently if they were set at low or normal.

Thanks for the review and feedback!

The grey box you are seeing is the result of having the "safest" security level enabled on the Tor Browser. With that setting all audio and video are disabled. If you click on it the video will play  Smiley

Regarding the refund address, what was the source coin?
Sorry, I forgot to mention it was for Bitcoin... While we're on the topic of refund addresses, I want to make a small suggestion about the content in the pop-up that appears when we hover over the blue information icon: It'd be better if you could add another message that reminds users only to use addresses that they fully control, as opposed to addresses from other exchanges [it might save a few people from making that kind of mistake].

What was the address type? At the moment we only support P2WPKH addresses, we're going to support more soon  Smiley

Thank you for the suggestion, we'll do that!

Thank you for adding a button to disable animations, but it appears to be limited to your onion site [I already tried clearing the cache on my side].
- BTW, I wanted to try doing some tests using random addresses on the clearnet version, but there seems to be a bug in the refund address field (it keeps showing "Invalid refund address" error).

Yes it is just the onion site for now. Once it is tested we'll migrate the clearnet to use the same js-less site.

Regarding the refund address, what was the source coin?

Your keys, your coins, your privacy.

After months of building (and years of frustration with frozen funds and passport selfies), we’re thrilled to introduce Splash, an instant exchange that puts privacy back where it belongs: in your hands.

> Why another instant exchange

Because most of them forgot what Bitcoin was born for.

  • No KYC Ever - We never ask for IDs, selfies, or utility bills. Your swap stays between you and the blockchain. No more AML/KYC terrorism
  • No Account Freezes - No surprise "compliance reviews", no frozen coins.
  • Self-Hosted Liquidity - Every swap is filled from our own reserves, never routed through third-party exchanges.
  • Private Full Nodes - All supported blockchains run on dedicated nodes we operate, never third-party RPC endpoints or cloud relays.
  • Instant Quotes - Our matching engine prices and settles directly against in-house liquidity.
  • Transparent Fees - A single flat rate shown before you hit "Exchange".

We log nothing beyond what’s required to execute the transaction: no cookies, no trackers, no analytics pixels.

> Assets at launch

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Monero (XMR)
  • Dai (DAI)

Onion Site
http://ekrdgp4j5y3o66urb4t5kzf3erdu6ewvk6zhu33m3m7wp2iflplk6jid.onion

We're happy to announce the launch of our onion site. The site is a complete redo without the use of any javascript, while still preserving the core aesthetics. Using this site users will be able to completely maintain their privacy, confident that no javascript runs in the background sending your browser's information.

Let us know what you think!

p.s. We've also included a button to disable animation, for those getting headaches from the static animation  Smiley.

I doubt you are a fan of traditional centralized exchanges and KYC services but have you perhaps transferred the coins you got from Splash to such a platform to see what would happen or done any analysis with available AML bots to see how "clean" or "dirty" that BTC is and what its associated risk rating is?
I don't have the address with me right now, but as soon as I get hold of the wallet, I'll run an AML check out of curiosity.

@splashed do you plan on adding litecoin anytime soon?

How do you plan to gain trust here? I'm talking about something like depositing 1 Bitcoin into the forum escrow or signing a message form reserve address.
i can't speak for others, but this would definitely give me confidence to try/start using splash for my swaps knowing if something goes wrong, i could get compensation from the coin held on escrow.

Not planning on adding litecoin anytime soon, but will consider it if we get more demand for it.

Noted on the escrow, we've been given a list of trustworthy members here that do escrow, we'll get in touch with them  Smiley

In ToS, add a list of exchanges that accept your coins and update it daily. This will be useful in determining which exchanges to avoid.

I wanted to say the same thing hugeblack did. Splash is relatively new so it might not yet be on the radars of blockchain analysis firms and other enemies of privacy. Still, knowing which CEXs don't give the crypto that comes from Splash a negative rating and bad AML score is a valuable piece of information. @splash does that sound doable to you?

Also, will you consider adding other stablecoins to your platform besides DAI?

3. 24h volume
This is not updated in real time for privacy reasons.
What about the reserves info? How often do you update that data?

List of exchanges that accept our coins and update it daily
That is a good idea, we'll look into this. Thank you and thank you @Pmalek

Other stablecoins
At the moment the only reputable and decentralized stablecoin is DAI. We are not considering USDT / USDC. We'll consider other decentralized ones in the future.

Guess I'm your first customer. Cool

Tried swapping 0.02 ETH to BTC. Output was 0.0004991 BTC

At the time, ETH/BTC at Binance was giving me 0.00050389 BTC  (counting the 0.1% trading fee) for the same amount, so around 0.95% less than Binance.

Transaction was super fast, I think it took less than 2 minutes from ETH sent to BTC received.

The only thing I missed was a QR code for the deposit address on the swap page. Also, 24h volume at the front page is still at 0.

Thank you for being our first customer, we really appreciate that  Cheesy. We will remember you always ninja.

1. Rate
Our rate is the average of multiple exchanges (including binance) - so sometimes the variation between different exchanges will mean that our rate can be slightly higher than the exchange that offers the lowest rate. We will look into doing weighted average and giving exchanges with high volume a bigger weight. Thanks for reporting that!

2. QR code
Noted. We will add QR code for deposit.

3. 24h volume
This is not updated in real time for privacy reasons

If you deposit enough into the forum escrow, I'll try the service.

That's a good suggestion, thank you! We'll look into that  Smiley

I noticed something while playing around the exchange fields.
If you enter the coin information (From?, To?, Amount?, etc.), the exchange will show you the rates in the output info on the bottom left. However, if I switch from dynamic to fixed rate or vice versa, the exchange only shows the current exchange rate between the two selected pairs. It doesn't display the new amount the user will get. I would have to fill in an amount under the "Amount" field again. I think it would be better if the correct amounts are shown immediately after changing the rates.

Thank you, we will fix that.

the terminal design you are going for is nice and all, but the swap field is trash in all honesty, took me a bit to find it. you should change it to make it more obvious.

1. "Non-custodial" - This term is used as a contrast to the process of regular CEX exchanges where users deposit their funds into a custodial wallet owned by the exchange, perform the swap in the exchange, and have the output currency in a wallet owned by the exchange, before they're able to withdraw into their own wallet (if they even do that).

2. "If you refuse my exchange, the website crashes, or something else happens, how do I get my coins out without your help?" - You're correct in that you'll have to trust us for a few minutes when we process and perform the exchange. We acknowledge this and we are ready to earn users' trust with time.
What you explained is the workings of a custodial service. The deposit addresses your users deposit to are under your control. You own the keys to them. It's exactly the same as with other instant exchanges. For instance, eXch, which was very popular on Bitcointalk. After reading your T&Cs and the mention of sending customers private keys, I thought that was the case with all swaps, but as you explained below, it isn't. Exchange owners seem reluctant to call their service custodial. You shouldn't be if your intentions are good. Your service isn't trustless and it's custodial but you can build a brand here if you do it right. There is a market to fill. I wouldn't give custody any importance in your OP. Most of us here know how instant exchanges work and someone could see it as annoying when claims are made that aren't correct.
i agree with @Pmalek here.

calling your service "Non-custodial" is dishonest and misleading. to put it simply... if i'm sending my coins to an address i don't control for a swap, it's custodial no matter how you try to spin it. i suggest you drop the "Non-custodial" nonsense.
your service is aimed at people who care about their privacy and know better than that, so making false claims like this will do more harm than good for your brand.

edit: i tried to use the website with javascript disabled, but that seems to break it, if you could make the website javascript free, that would be great.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes Tor + No JS version is coming soon  Smiley

3. "Transmitting private keys to customers" - Currently this is only when we refund DAI -> X exchanges. If for some reason we are unable to perform the requested DAI -> X exchange, we would just transmit the private key of the receiving DAI address to the user (To simplify the process, so we would not have to 1. ask users for their refund address 2. send eth to the receiving address and 3. send the DAI to the refund address).
Got it, thanks. But why only for DAI and not also for ETH or all cryptos for that matter?

You're correct in that you'll have to trust us for a few minutes when we process and perform the exchange. We acknowledge this and we are ready to earn users' trust with time.
Yeah, and that is what makes it centralized and custodial, just like other instant exchanges, the moment funds are deposited into the deposit address you provide, you have custody of the coins. I don't have a problem with instant exchanges, in fact, i believe we need more of them that are legitimate and privacy oriented, but it is good to set the records straight that they are centralized and custodial, so newbies know this before going ahead to use them. Welcome and Good Luck.

"Custodial"
Seems the consensus here is we should remove the term "non-custodial". We'll take the feedback into account  Smiley

But why only for DAI and not also for ETH or all cryptos for that matter?
For native coins we just refund it straight to the user's specified refund address.

Welcome to the forum!
Like several other users, I am also hoping to see the Tor version of your exchange.

I think you should mention the fees in your OP. They are the same as eXch used to have.
I have noticed several instant exchanges calling themselves and their services as non-custodial. You have the same claim in your OP. So I have to ask: how is the swap process non-custodial? If I begin a swap and you give me a BTC address to deposit my bitcoin to, do I have the keys to this address? If you refuse my exchange, the website crashes, or something else happens, how do I get my coins out without your help? Your TOS mentions transmitting private keys to customers. Can you tell us a bit more about that?

I am reading your T&Cs.
You apply higher service fees for amounts exceeding certain amounts. For instance, >"1 BTC - 0.5%, >2 BTC - 1%". Why is that? Shouldn't users be awarded with lower fees for swapping bigger sums instead of paying more?

Thank you for the welcome!

Addressing your questions:

2. We acknowledge this and we are ready to earn users' trust with time.

Also thank you for the feedback. Tor is coming soon  Smiley

For a completely privacy leaning service, clearnet should be the last option. In fact, it should just be for information/tutorials while the actual exchanging is done over Tor mirrors (You can borrow a leaf from robosats - https://learn.robosats.org)

Also, you might want to have a few more numbers of mirrors because once you get popular, trust me, you are going to get bombarded to DDos attacks.

Yeah we are aware of the DDoS attacks. We've been watching other exchanges experiencing them. We'll be launching the tor mirrors + no JS website very soon. We just launched the clearnet version first to be more accessible for users.

There are many positive things in your instant exchange, but I noticed that apart from Native SegWit addresses, your platform doesn't seem to support other address formats [you might want to reconsider this part].
- FWIW, I got a little headache when I stared at those grey horizontal lines (I think a light mode could help with that issue).

Interesting OP. Glad to see another privacy oriented instant exchange here.  Cheesy

Any chance you could reach out to orangefren.com and ask to get listed and aim to be OF guaranteed as well? since it's a new service and some folks may be hesitant, this could give some confidence for them to try your exchange. Dropping their ANN thread, too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5409616.0

Maybe an optional way to disable the static animation as well? as some folks may not be a fan of it.

Will def keep an eye on this exchange. Good luck!

Thank you! Will reach out to them  Smiley
