+1 for EKM.  I know my accountant recommended EKM for tax purposes to be able to accurately keep a recording.  It's a popular choice with landlords who own duplexes and such with only one meter base and want to be able to "split" the utility bill.

Power factor correction needed for ASIC, yay or nay?
by

on 10/01/2022, 12:12:46 UTC
I'm still in the process of getting my "farm" setup and I've had some (a lot) assistance from a friend who's a master electrician.  He started talking about checking out the power factor and looking into power factor correction capacitors.  So I've started doing a little research on this but are these devices something that would benefit ASIC miners?

Little backstory on my "farm" it was an older (1980s) industrial shop with tons of 8' T8 fixtures, 3 old heat pumps, just basically everything you'd expect from 1980's efficiency.  We are using the heat from the miners currently to heat the shop (last week it was 2F outside and shop temp was 62F inside).

I've put a brand new PSU on it.... same thing.  I was told on the whatsminer telegram group that was the issue so I ordered one.

How about the API logs?

Can you post both system logs and Cgminer API logs here and don't forget to use code tag a button with # icon. Alternatively use pastebin.com if you have a character limit here then share the URL here.

I search a bit it seems that some firmware has a different PSU(it means it is only made for a specific PSU)so like Philipma said check the PSU label or the exact PSU model. Tell us where we will try to find a firmware that will work on that miner with other PSUs.

Which is the best way to extract the logs, via the whatsminer tool export feature or from the ASIC web interface and copy/paste?

Sorry for the delay in reply....  Been out of town.

I did end up swapping PSUs and same thing.  I'm beginning to believe it's a control board or cable issue.  It's at the point now after a few minutes or a few hours  the ethernet port lights start going dim, then the lights go out all together.  Once that happens the fans rev up to full RPMs and the unit drops off the network.  I can totally kill the power and the unit and start the cycle all over again but it is a continuing cycle.  Not seeing any errors in the sys log that sticks out.

Whatsminer PSU interchangeability

I have a M20S and a M31S+ that have two different power supplies.  The M20S is starting to hash erratically and I'm wondering if it's a PSU issue.  Can I just swap the PSU from one to another?  I looked on Whatsminer website and it seem like they have several models.  Can someone educate me if these are all compatible?  I do see some differences such as 16A max, 20A max, 277v, etc...  Other than that are they cross compatible?  My input power is 240V and each ASIC is on a dedicated 20A circuit.

appreciate the responses.... I guess the one thing I haven't seen answered which maybe it isn't that big of a deal.  Do I need some type of surge protection?

I won't be building out the entire space....  It's approx 6,500 sq ft and right now I've got 3 ASIC up and running at my house and 4 sitting waiting to be utilized.

Suggestions - Mini farm build
by

I've got an opportunity to acquire warehouse space.  It has a 600a 3 phase service.  I currently am running 3 ASIC at my house and I'm literally out of capacity.  My question(s) are:

- Is there something available as far as a "getting started" guide to building out a mine.  I've been researching hot/cold rooms, exhaust/intake fans, etc and feel comfortable with that.

- Surge protection?  Is that even a thing when it comes to 220v or stepping down from 3 phase?  My father is a licensed master electrician and I've got basic knowledge but I haven't seen much as far as if surge protection is needed on ASIC machines.

I'm not sure why the pic is blurry...

His last message -

same result.... you seeing anything on your pool?  That pic you just sent is from when I turned it on this afternoon.  it worked... but then just quit like 10 minutes later.  Craziest thing.  I didnt overheat, it's in my basement and it's 60 degrees down there.  It got 220v power, just like my other miners.
The log is crazy though..
pvt_t0 = -40
pvt_vo = 0

is that -40 voltage or 0 voltage or what?  does it list errors like other miners somewhere we can see?

avalon 1047 not working after shipping
by

I sold an Avalon 1047 on ebay to a guy.  Sent him a video beforehand showing it running and hashing correctly.  Now for him after changing to his pool info everything shows "green" but it is not hashing.  He's sent a screen shot which is hopfully attached correctly.

His email -
***************************

I've tried
slushpool
AntpoolI
Nicehash
Prohashing
Poolin

All a no go.  It ran with your settings for 5 minutes.  I switched to my pools it ran for 5 or 10 just fine.  I sent the eBay message and then maybe 5 minutes later it just dropped out. I can access the gui, but that's it.  Light is green, Ethernet port lights flash fans run full tilt, but it doesn't do anything.  Those dials On the gui are all green but showing 0s.  I have tried everything and it just won't work.  It's not drawing much juice either.  Maybe the controller wnet bad?  Those numbers in the log are whacky...

Anything I can try?

****************************
I let him know this was being sold as is and apparently it was working at first when he got it.  I'm pretty new to ASICs so can anyone point me in a direction?  I'm trying to be a good seller.

Would you mind sharing the URL that you said about this "sha-256 servers vs. the asicboost"

The normal NH pool server should this list below
Code:
stratum+tcp://sha256.usa-west.nicehash.com:3334
stratum+tcp://sha256.usa-east.nicehash.com:3334
stratum+tcp://sha256.eu-north.nicehash.com:3334
stratum+tcp://sha256.eu-west.nicehash.com:3334

For ASICboost

Code:
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.usa-west.nicehash.com:3368
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.usa-east.nicehash.com:3368
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.eu-north.nicehash.com:3368
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.eu-west.nicehash.com:3368

or Port: 80

Did you test all of the NH normal pools?

It's seems they don't support Avalon 1126s if you look at it on their calculator it's not listed there it means they still didn't support this unit.

These are the servers I was trying - I did not try any EU servers just USA.  On my 1047s I did choose that model from the drop down and for the 1126 I chose 'other'.

So if an ASIC miner isn't listed on their drop down that means it is not supported?

Code:
stratum+tcp://sha256.usa-east.nicehash.com:3334
stratum+tcp://sha256.usa-west.nicehash.com:3334
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.usa-west.nicehash.com:3368
stratum+tcp://sha256asicboost.usa-east.nicehash.com:3368

Again, this is probably all trivial as I am not using NH for my ASICs only for my GPUs and L3 but it's just one of those things....
