Re: Help! Unconfirmed Transaction for more than a year
by

Issue resolved - but a question remains...

What I did was open a backup of my wallet with blockchain.info. It still showed my balance at zero... so I exported that blockchain wallet to Multibit, which did show a balance - so sent that balance to another system, yay!

Now, I have the same wallet keys and transaction history being displayed in all MultiBit, Blockchain, and Bitcoin-QT... can that be an issue? Do I need to move everything back to Bitcoin-QT (which is still showing that unconfirmed transaction)?

Help! Unconfirmed Transaction for more than a year

I have an unconfirmed transaction from over a year ago. Part of the transaction was an accidental double-spend attempt - leaving the rest in limbo. Anyone know how I can delete this transaction and get access to the BTC again?

*edit: It included a 0.0005 transaction fee

I have an unconfirmed transaction from October.  Embarrassed

Now how can that be?

Can you resend it with a fee?

Even without a fee, surely it should have gone through by now?

It was an accidental double-spend attempt. But because most of it had already been spent, it won't verify... leaving the remainder in limbo.

It probably works well until Bitcoin gets a piece of good press and another big cat comes along and says, "ooh, I want in on this. But I don't want to cause large price fluctuations with my huge purchases.... so I'll just buy enough to take down any large walls that pop up." Suddenly, with the walls gone, the price starts drastically going up and if the individual(s) that sold the coins wants them back, he'll have to buy them back at a higher price.

The only Bitcoins "made" every day are the ones generated through mining.  That is, 25BTC per blocks.

Not sure if you comment was directed at what I said, but yes... 25BTC per block, 6 blocks per hour, for 24 hours is 3600 BTC

Now, just wait until ASICs come out.  Let's see the prices when difficulty raise from 4.5M to 500~800M...  That is coming soon.

Honestly, as much demand for Bitcoins there has been since the start of the year... I don't see the few coins being mined having much affect at all on the price. Considering only 3600 are made each day, which would get gobbled up in the exchanges in a matter of minutes.

How about figuring the amount of new cash entering the bitcoin economy compared to newly minted bitcoins? Since the start of the year, the market cap has risen about $355 million. Divide that by 68 days, and we get an average of $5.2 million entering the bitcoin economy each day. Divide that by 3600 newly generated bitcoins each day, and you can assume that that amount of cash entering the economy can sustain a price of $1444/BTC.

Granted, at this time, a lot more than 3600 bitcoins are being sold each day. At the same time, not all miners sell everything they mine. Eventually, those with large amounts of bitcoins will drain their supplies and not be as willing to sell as many.

New feature idea for Bitcoin Client
by
tbeau1
on 19/06/2011, 07:39:37 UTC
How about adding a feature to the Bitcoin Client that would upon receiving or confirming a payment, send POST data to a URL that includes the amount received, address sent from, address sent to, and time received.

Also, possibly also a feature doing the same for outgoing payments.

Possibly an easier solution than API through a 3rd party.

May be the perfect storm for Bitcoin to succeed... with worries about global economies, inflation, and even the collapse of the dollar.

I must be an exception... I had been investing in silver as heavily as I could since it was at $20. But when I discovered Bitcoin just two weeks ago, I realized I needed to get in quickly. I'm not currently selling silver to buy BTC, but may consider selling some of it after JP Morgan has to cover their short.
