Re: Transaction ID showing MORE than I sent - Double spend attempt?

Ok, I think I understand...  so because I received 15 BTC in a single send from the exchange, and then decided to send 10 to another exchange... it has used the 15 I received to send the 10, and is returning me the 5, minus the TX fee? Makes sense now...

Transaction ID showing MORE than I sent - Double spend attempt?
by

Hi,

I created a new receiving address yesterday in my local bitcoin-qt wallet, and received some BTC from an exchange.

Today I have sent 10 BTC to another exchange, which I can see in my history, and as pending on the exchange... but, when I check the transaction ID for this send, in addition to the 10 sent to my exchange wallet address, it looks like another 5 (4.9999774) has been sent to another address that I do not recognise....  and of course this send does not show up in my bitcoin-qt history.

Is this potentially a malicious double spend attempt? How do I fix it?

As an aside, the 10 was sent with the minimum fee by accident, which is why I've been watching the transaction fairly closely to see if I need to take measures to fix it...  but the extra 5 is concerning me more at the moment.

Details:

The receiving address in my local wallet:

Transaction ID for 10 BTC sent today:

Trying to lease, but getting the following error. Have tried 2 different leasing addresses and differing amounts.  Anyone know why? Running most recent Lite client, version 0.4.18a.

So I apologize if this has been covered but could someone let me know if the cold storage options have been updated / completed?  I am officially a Dad now and want to throw some DGB into cold storage for my son that was just born.

Thanks!
~Kayahoga

Congratulations on the newborn son!

Are you looking for a paper wallet? Or more of a USB solution?

As of right now you can encrypt a USB device with a password and back your wallet.dat file up to it.

I suspect he is talking about a paper wallet. I've been after this for a long time too...  the whole point is to take it off the grid to avoid tech failure of some sort. I currently have my encrypted wallet backed up in multiple places, and do it regularly whenever my balance changes significantly, so really I'm confident I'm covered. But there is something about plain old paper sitting in a safe deposit box or safe that just feels "good". Kind of the difference between having a bank account full of money that you can see only as a number on the screen vs. having a pile of cash  in front of you. Not exactly the best analogy but it works for me.

I still can't believe DGB will be worth 1 dollar sometime,  because it's way too easy to buy 1 million now, lol. Doesn't make sense.

I hear you. It seems impossible, but nice to hope for. I'd be happy with $0.01/DGB....  but with $0.10/DGB I could probably retire very comfortably and never work again. For $1.00/DGB well....  lets just say commercial air travel would never be a part of my life again... a small Gulfstream would be the only way to go  Grin

I'm not really interested in a design, just want to be able to generate public and private keys offline, just like VIA, BTC, ...

You can already..just use a universal paper wallet generator http://cryptolife.net/upwg/

Just looking at this...  but can't quite work it out. How do you know which decimal value to use? According to the chart for addresses starting with uppercase "D" it's 29, 30, 31 or 32....

So....  it seems the wheel doesn't need to be reinvented here, just needs a spoke repair...  anyone know xploited personally that can ask? He hasn't responded to any further e-mails since October.

I had a pretty major surgery recently and took some time off to recover. I'm starting to get back in the swing of things so I'll get the paper wallet issue sorted out.  Thanks for reminding me!

Time off? No way man...  what kind of Canadian are you  Wink

Just kidding, hope you get back to 100% soon!

Man, I never wanted a paper wallet more than now.

Does DGB not have a paper wallet/brainwallet? Guess thats my next project.

If anyone can mock up a design I can put it into action. My graphic design skillz suck.

In what program you need the design in?

Doesn't really matter. Heres the dogecoin jpg's so you can follow that.

I'll also try and mock something up myself but I'd expect it to look pretty crappy Tongue

Any intrest in bringing over the Bitcoin Armory wallet over to dgb?

Folks, there is a paper wallet generator here.... but it hasn't worked since the last hard fork. Or rather, it works, but there is small pesky little issue that you can't reimport your exported coins  Shocked

http://digiaddress.org/

I've have been in touch with the dev of this site, who has indicated to me that it is an easy fix....  but as far as I know he hasn't implemented it yet. He is one of the Digibyte DEVs too I believe, it's "xploited", and he has been active on this forum in the past.

Here are the last communications I had with him via e-mail:

"..... I'll fix it up this weekend. Jared mentioned it to me beifily but he didn't explain the issue.  I think I know what the issue is, just need to figure the best way to solve it.  Ohhhh   I totally know what the issue is. Just came to me.  Lol sorry don't mind me, I'm lacking sleep.

To, confirm (if you can)  it worked up until the algo switch?

No dgb nessicary.  It will up fixed this weekend. I'll give you an email to let you know....
"

...and I asked "Just to clarify, if I export a bunch of coins to a paper wallet, then throw it in a safe deposit box and forget about them for 10 years until DGB are suddenly worth $100 each (yeah, I know, wishful thinking)...  how do I know that I can still import them again after god knows how many wallet updates have occurred in the meantime?"

Answer:
"You'll always be able to import them.  100 years even :-)

Without getting to heavy into the details (unless you want me to)  your private key is available in different formats.   Like WIP  or base 58 but they all ultimately come from the same original private key. The format you try to import into your wallet is in the WIP format.

This is where the issue is currently, with the conversion of your base key to a WIP key the base key is still exactly the same but is being converted slightly differently now.

What I can say with certainy is that your base key will always be valid. Bitcoin is based on a public cruve encryption and didibyte being from bitcoin is the same.  So the conversion from one format to another might change over time but you will always be able to go back to your base private key and convert it into the for a you need.

That's in a worst case senerio. In reality it will just work. This change was a accidental overlook from the original import of the myriad coin code base. Basically what I'm saying is its highly unlikely to happen again bit if it did its always possible to import them again
"

Thx, keep us updated please.

Thx again!

Very cool...  just ordered a million myself! Even with card surcharge price is pretty much the same or maybe even a little cheaper as currently trading for BTC...! Not sure how they are making money on this?

UPDATE: Order placed at 13:17 GMT, in my wallet at 13:25!

I have updated the p2pool node
http://eu.p2pool.sk:9022

to the latest DGB git version (which should include the scrypt fix).

If you want to test, point your miners there ( -u DBGaddress -p x)

I'll throw some hashes your way for a bit...

What? There is a paper wallet site?

http://digiaddress.org/

But....  don't use it! The funds at the moment cannot be re-imported...  the new wallet won't accept the private key generated.
