I literally don't understand how a small pow blockchain like this hasn't been 51% attacked yet, maybe as it's not yet listed on crypto51.app or something?
It's worrying to think how little it would cost to do an attack, it's a shame as this used to be a solid community project. It's ripe for another community takeover imo.

May I offer that the information on crypto51.app is not entirely accurate, neither in detail nor in principle. Do take a closer look and you'll spot plenty of inconsistencies.

I assure you that in case of Zero there are both logistical and technical reasons why such an attack is not feasible. Zero is the pioneer in unique parametrization of the Equihash algorithm, since its very launch two years ago. We are in communication with other members of the Zcash and Equihash ecosystems, including those that have been attacked, to investigate independently every detail and evaluate mitigations that have been put in place since.

Zero always has been and remains a community project, fully open sourced and constantly in search of contributors of every kind. Having been involved for twenty months now, I feel that the current team is the most committed and experienced. Join us on Telegram if you have further questions or would be interested in pitching in.

BTW I still don't see the mobile wallet (it is strange since I have working version ever since I sent the code to the new team.). I use this mobile wallet for mining more then a month already with 0 problems.
I take responsibility for at least three weeks of the delay folding the Mobile Wallet port into the release.  On the first try ran into some gotcha setting up the build environment on a Mac and punted.  Finally admitted that will not get to it anytime soon.

You have my telegram..
Totally appreciate your offer.

Apologies for losing track of this, have been overwhelmed by work-related travel and a multitude of projects flaring up, including a security related upgrade on another, Ethereum based blockchain project I'm active on.

As a favor to those who'll maintain the work in years to come, could you post your experiences of installing Cordoba on Mac or on Linux, and the outcomes of building for Android and for iOS?

Re: [ANN] ZERO - Microsoft Github

In the future, after buying githab by microsoft you will stay on the platform or will you go to another one as well as the bitcoin fund?

Narking, we are watching the outcomes of the MS/Github news, same as many thousands of OSS projects, and will likely follow the lead of our parent projects, like Zcash and Zclassic.

The open source projects in the past decade have successfully migrated from Sourceforge to Google Code and most recently to Github. All of those earlier repos are still online. Now, the largest OSS outfits, like the Linux Foundation, Apache, Eclipse, GNU maintain their own depositories, with multiple mirrors.

For me personally, the MS news was initially upsetting, based on the decades of dislike of MS. However, in this case MS was moved by a desire to demonstrate their commitment to open source, reiterated by the recent Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella. https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2018/06/04/microsoft-github-empowering-developers/

Github, with a $7B warchest, is now on an extremely solid footing to keep paying for redundant infrastructure and to grow their very competent staff.

Well, hello there!

As far as I know the wallet file has always been named wallet.zero. Have you tried just changing the extension on you file? Obviously make a backup of it first.
Indeed, this is the Zero wallet name, from the coin launch.

Re: No Wallet Password? Encryption?
by

(Just read through all of the arguing.  Good.  That's why this forum is better than Discord.  I've seen people get banned in Discord for simple things like just disagreeing to larger things like posting facts.  Keep steering people to Bitcointalk everyone!)

Just installed the ZERO wallet...  there is no password feature, anywhere? No "Encrypt Wallet" feature? Nothing in the text menu. Am I missing something?  This doesn't seem very secure at all.

As an example to test things, like in other wallets, I created a new receiving address.  In other wallets a password is required to do so. No password dialog popped up.

And I wrote it elsewhere, however writing again.  The next wallet update needs some help.  Examples would be animations on the splash screen so it doesn't appear frozen and removing the large green bar after the wallet is synced.
coinmancan, thanks for detailed feedback!

First, let me address the security question.  We are distributing not only a desktop wallet but also a full node running the blockchain behind it. This is like a Qt wallet in the Bitcoin domain, and architecturally is different from a mobile (SVP) wallet that uses a full node running remotely.  In a very real sense, securing the entire computer is needed. This includes physical security of the unit and the room, strong password for the OS login, prompt screen lock with a password, perhaps even a secured BIOS.

Much appreciate the UX observations, and do keep them coming. Would like some comparisons of features and UX, between this and other desktop wallets, like Bitcoin-style Qt, Swing, etc.  And in addition to critique, an occasional word of praise would be so welcome.

1) Why did you hide the return of the coin's creator https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=958598?
3) Exchange qiex.com, I also repeat here - this is a scam (you were repeated many times by users):

Dear ImZloyHomyak, as your name implies, you are an angry and evil rodent. I would not normally bother to reply and will not engage in any discourse going forward. However, this once I will take the time to address two of the questions you've listed, for the benefit of the rest of the community.

The original developer of Zero made a set of changes to the Zclassic codebased, that are described in detail in the original ANN. The implementation have been reviewed by a number of competent developers since. From the very start that individual announced his limited availability and no inclination to interact frequently. He does drop by bitcointalk.org occasionally and may well message people privately, but is not posting, as you can see. He has not contributed to Zero codebase since at least Sept. 2017.

Having been involved in Zero for a year now, I have been doing the codebase maintenance for perhaps half of that time and can testify that the current team is the strongest in Zero's lifetime. In terms of the range of technical skills and organizational abilities, we deliver fixes and improvements, peer review the changes, share the workload, plan and then execute a range of tasks in parallel and keep the community apprised and engaged.

Regarding QIEX, indeed it is located in Asia and is a young entrant into the space.  We are not fortune tellers and cannot predict how their business develops over time. By way of example,  Binance was at that stage about a year ago. Many other exchanges are still lingering, after a year or two of operations.

The team at QIEX was willing to work with Zero, to understand the coin particulars and to launch the node in order to support trading it. Jointly we overcame the timezone and language barriers and the trading is now fully in operation.  Personally, I have moved 100 Zero there and have executed perhaps six transactions, on both Buy and Sell side, in order to validate the operation. For me, the system has operated without a single glitch.

Same as everyone reading this post, you have to do your own research and evaluate suitability of the size and execution of specific investments to your personal situation and skills. A prudent approach to investments is broad diversification, across various asset classes, where Crypto likely should not constitute the majority of your overall portfolio.  Across Crypto, I typically suggest a long term sizable investment in top five currencies, with much smaller and actively managed investments in individual Altcoins.

Do consider diversifying into other members of the Zcash ecosystem, and also into the Ethereum coin and tokens domain.  There are exciting new blockchain architectures coming online right now, such as EOS and TRON, and NEO shows promise.  Good luck in your investments, and do share with the community your insights and successes.

The project seems so promising, but however, there is only one member of the team that has an experience when it comes to cryptocurrency? Can anybody confirm this?

We've also acquired GEO and brought their team on board - GEO was a very popular project at ETHDenver last month. More information is at https://medium.com/xyonetwork/xyo-network-strengthens-crypto-location-tech-portfolio-with-the-acquisition-of-geo-4fd0d7ea2d0c.

That's a separate implementation of a cool location-based protocol.
Good stuff!
