Re: BTC fees and micropayments

What if we assume micropayments are flying around for one coffee per 100ms? How big becomes the blockchain then? The average transaction size is ~80 KB, for 6000 transactions/10min that makes it 4.8 MB per block equals 262 GB per year. IMO, that's still feasible. But I assume the devs could beat the size of the transaction down to 10 KB or even less, if that were the case.

Is there a problem with the network congestion? IMO, no. After all, the bitcoin protocol is distributed, so the busy nodes are processing some transactions and the free nodes then take care of the others. After a while when the morning coffee spike ends, the network synchronizes in a, say the diameter of the network, steps.

Am I missing something?

BTC fees and micropayments

Hi guys.

I think the Bitcoin protocol should be capable to handle micropayments, say from ~1 mBTC on without fee. This would allow tipping much easily. However, the current BTC fee in the protocol is set to 1 mBTC for transactions smaller than 0.01 BTC. Can anyone enlighten me, why the fee threshold is set so high? Are the spammers really an issue?

Also, by reading the bitcoin developer guide, do we really need such a complicated concept for micropayments:

Hi,my name is Thomas Opperman. I am the PR manager at Bitcoin Trader. My Facebook account is 100006261707339@facebook.com. I have "met" Michael Brandenburg on Skype and I am an employee of BT. The reason for the anonymity of John Carley, Michael Brandenburg and especially the traders is because of security. They all want to minimize the risk of being hacked. The "normal" rules of internet safety gets stretched just a bit to ensure the safety of our clients money, but in extreme cases extreme measures must be taken. We understand that people want a "face" they can trust, but the security factor is the main reason for the anonymity. In the time I have been with BT I have been attacked 3 times because people think I have in some way access to the funds(which I don't). So imagine what the effect would be if the people who do are announced to the public?I hope this is an acceptable answer, but feel free to comment or contact me.

Bullshit. Bitstamp creators Nejc Kodrič and Damijan Merlak work with much larger amount of BTCs than you and they are real persons living a few kilometres from my place in Slovenia. And they don't get hacked, because they made all the security measures when designing Bitstamp. So could you.

ROFLMAO! I spammed the Support Message with over a hundred requests and BTC-ARBS.COM deleted my account.

"An error has occurred:
Incorrect login credentials"

and if i try to recover my password it says,

"An error has occurred:
Sorry we could not find this email in our database"

So if you want him to suspend your account you can officially keep navigation back and keep submitting support tickets til he suspends your account.

This site is garbage i'm glad i only had .15btc with this, at least i was able to withdraw .06btc from the legacy.

This site is officially beyond scam..

They disabled my account too even though I didn't bother them with spam. I had 10 BTC deposited. They don't answer to support tickets Embarrassed

Anyone knows how to prosecute the site owners for theft?

That btw terminate my BTC travel here.... was a fun experience... lost a lot of money, not willing to try it again. Eventually once BTC gets better "securities" with a more trustworthy community i guess i ll try again.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with btc-arbs. Bitcoin with its blockchain is a great piece of technology and I'm sure it has a bright and a long future ahead. Will the value of BTC rise? Who knows, personally I bet it will. Will BTC die as a payment method? Never. Maybe in a long-term future when another crypto will take over.

Since Friday, April 18, I'm not able to login anymore - says invalid credentials. I contacted support on Friday, waited during holidays and contacted them again yesterday and still no answer. Since I registered AFTER the heartbleed bug, I use a Linux-based desktop and I have 15+ characters long password I doubt I've been victim to phishing or other attack. Admins simply blocked my account and stole little more than 10 BTC deposited!

DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY TO BTC-ARBS, IT'S A SCAM!!!

I find this statement hard to believe. While you may have issues accessing your account, I don't believe they have just run off with the money because it's a scam. Have you read any of the previous posts? btc-arbs is operating under a specific MO in this mess/ponzi/rip-off, and that MO doesn't include locking people out just to take funds.

Of course it does: Since I registered and deposited my BTCs after the heartbleed bug, they had no legitimate reason to freeze my balance. Instead, they just locked it. Is there anyone else here who registered after 12th April and deposited larger amount of BTCs, say at least 10?
