Re: Advice on platforms to trade from with leverage....?
by

I am aware we are closing in on this cycle, maybe another 6 months max give or take if we go by traditional knowledge... Right now I am looking to take a few low level punts... Just £500 here and there with 5x to 10x... a few (imo) low risk trades considering where we are in the cycle.
Someone already mentioned Coinbase or Kraken above. Have you tried them? Seems like you can access leverage after you declare that you are qualified as high net borrowers (details probably on their help page)[1]. Sounds like you need to get approved before you can use them, but that should be expected if the regulations are as strict as you said above. CMIIW.

I have accounts with both..... Coinbase making me sit there and answer their stupid quiz in order to access my account, not got time for it! And Kraken as you say tells me I can't access leverage as I am 'not a high net worth' (wtf do they know)!.
So both of those are in bed with governments, they are uselsss... I don't want to be told what I can and not do with my money! That is not the point of crypto is it!

I tried Bitunix or Bybit a while ago, maybe need to open them again..  But yes the UK goverment seem to think they have the power to tell you what you can and cannot do with your money..!?

I am looking for an exchange that offers leverage.. I am in the UK, and sadly it seems this dystopian government have stopped all leveraged trading.
I am looking for an exchange that will let me use leverage, 5x, 8x etc...
I must ask you a question "Did you get profit with Spot trading?" and "Did you have positive net profit with Spot trading in long term?"

Without net profit from Spot trading in long term, it's extremely dangerous for you to touch leverages. Now, one more question "what is 5x, 8x, and etc, what is the etc" here?

Is it like higher leverages like 10x, 25x, 50x or 100x?
You will suicide and lose money easily and quickly with leverages and a higher leverage you use, a more risk of losing your money.

It's a good question and a good point.

I was not sure where to post this so here goes.

I am looking for an exchange that will let me use leverage, 5x, 8x etc...
Ideally that will accept GBP deposits to save me messing around with swapping in GBP to USDT and then wallet transfers.
Any good suggestions?

Andreas M Antonopoulos + Other inspiring knowledge
by

I like to take a broad view of things, and understand 'bitcoin', 'blockchain' + 'crypto' for what it is, or is meant to be.
I have a few selected people on 'youtube' I follow (obvioulsy it's not where I get my knowledge from) and now and then Andrea's videos pop up and he's got that rare inspiring spark that can really make the complex seem simple.
A lot of his older videos from say 2016 talk about Bitcoin as being the next revolution in mankind, a tool to free us of bureaucracy and so on.
But where are we now, ETFs cumulatively own something like 1.2 million bitcoin, Blackrock 550,000, MicroStrat 400,000 and so on..
Is Bitcoin really the saviour of humanity?
Is it a trojan horse?
Will it become the Pets.com of Internet 3.0?
I like Andreas's explanation that Biycoin is not money for the internet, it is the internet of money, or something along those lines, but what will happen if 90% of the BTC available are owned by huge corporations? Wasn't the idea that BTC would free humanity?
I am still open to the idea thta BItcoin is a deep state operation, or created by a very well known tech entrepreneur.

I wanna double check something. OP, are you from UK or just somewhere else in the EU? because AFAIK, there is still a difference in products made available -- as far as exchanges who complies with regulatory bodies are concerned.

Last I checked, FCA was trying to block leverage trading for retail folks in the UK as much as possible. Kraken likely had to comply to their policies as well.

In 2020, FCA bans the sale of crypto-derivatives to retail consumers. They're limited to spot trading. No leverage is available. Only professional investors and traders are allowed to trade options, futures, and others. Professional here doesn't refer to individuals. They refer to firms and institutions.

In 2024, this year, FCA has made updates, but only as regards crypto-backed Exchange Traded Notes. The rest of the rules stay including the ban of derivatives among retail consumers.

However, if OP is from UK, there are available options but only from exchanges that aren't regulated by the FCA. That poses a different kind of risk, though.

P.S. Links are from FCA's official site.

Yes I am from the UK..

The irony is the UK gov make it hard for you to trade / invest in crypto, but hen expect you to pay tax on any crypto you have.... screw those con-artist! Their time is up!

Kraken now has taken all ability away for EU and UK user, leverage not possible. Only for businesses. Another dumb move by kraken.
Bybit has crazy fees o add and withdraw funds.
Can anyone suggest a legit exchange that allows leveraged trading?

I am getting my funds out of there as soon as i get in!
That is a recommended thing to do, your funds should not be stored in a centralized exchange or custodial service, but in your self custodial wallet, so you should move it there when you get the opportunity.

As for the issue with 2fa, i don't fully understand you, if you have already set up 2fa and linked your authenticator with your exchange, then you simply have to get the six digit code from your authenticator and input it when you want to log in to Kraken.

Hi exactly, why is it not giving me a code.
When I log into kraken, I add username and passwoird, all good.. then 2FA screen. I open Google Authenticator and nothing, just an illustration of a cat playing with a wool ball... i.e no codes...?

I have already submitted a new case, and no rpely on prevuous case for 2  days now.. They can not act like this, are they not regulated by FCA? Don't they have to comply. It feels like a bunch of school kids running a popularity contest who just pick and choose.

I know my google account is using an @email.com and my kraken is outlook... Will this be an issue?
No, I am talking about the google authenticator apps, not your Kraken account.

I said if you have multiple email on your phone and you are in now that one where your google authenticator backup i.e. not sync that may be cause you are sawing your Google authenticator empty.
You saying if I don't know my 2FA I can never log back into my account? That seems wild.
2FA authentication means  even you put an password the Authenticator apps will give you one time password for log in it make more safer your account from the hacker. And in the mean time if you lost your authentitor apps, obviously you have to face issues while log in. But if you have done KYC then you can contact with the DATA(NID, Passports etc) of your kyc for recovering your account.
Rather than what I do for you, a suggestion to read this official article of Kraken : How to transfer authenticator app sign-in 2FA to a new phone (and bypass sign-in 2FA for a lost phone)

Thanks but you have to be signed in to transfer...?
I am ata. loss, kraken not replying to me, they are useless..

I set up 2FA, now I can't log in, I am checking the google authenticator app but no codes are appearing. This is truly a balls operation.

Youu were probably told during the setup to backup your secret key-- a string of alphanumeric chracters. Did you do it? if so, you can use it to generate codes. Just key-in the secret key instead of scanning a QR code.

But I would recommend a different TOTP app than Google Authenticator. Basically more secure and has better backup mechanism, see: https://getaegis.app/

I don't remember being given this option. The workthrough kraken gave me was a bit confusing.
I need to get back into my account. Kraken not even replying to me now.

Hi thanks for your reply.
I can't sign in to Kraken though to sort the 2FA out...? Kraken not replying to emails however. Been 22 hours now.
Have you checked what email you have sign-in on the Google authenticator apps? I mean it also can be happened that you setup your Kraken 2FA on the xxx@gmail.com and you are now on the yyy@gmail.com on the Google authenticator apps.

And there can be also one reason you haven't sync your authenticator apps to the email and somehow the data of the authenticator was deleted or the  the apps you have re-install. If this is the case then there is nothing to do.
But if you did KYC on the Kraken exchange then there is nothing a ways to contact the support team and submit your documents to recover your account.

I know my google account is using an @email.com and my kraken is outlook... Will this be an issue?

You saying if I don't know my 2FA I can never log back into my account? That seems wild.

May I ask you what 2FA method you were using? You were using pass keys or TOTP codes from an app?
At the time I don't think I was using 2FA.
As it happens I am back in kraken now, and my funds are still there.
I set up 2FA, now I can't log in, I am checking the google authenticator app but no codes are appearing. This is truly a balls operation.

Wasn't sure where to post this but here goes.
I set up 2fa on my kraken account. I don't see how it could have messed up.
I tried to log in, it asked for 2FA code - I opened Google Authenticator but it's just a picture of a cat plating with a wool ball!
Meaning it has not linked with my account?
Can anyone help me here, because kraken are not interested in helping.
And thus I can not seem to log into my kraken!
Any ideas?
