I'm using the Windows installer from nxt.org. The NRS version says 1.5.15 Outdated!
Do I need to run the update to 1.6.2?

Yes, update to 1.6.2. After update, there will be rescan of database, which is not short. To speed up the update, go to www.peerexplorer.com and download latest snapshot of database (right bottom of the page). Copy database to database folder nxt_db and then run 1.6.2.

OK. Thanks

Hi NEM friends.

As a few of you already know KkotNEM (our favorite NEM cheerleader) has made a song about P-O-I.  Please listen to her video.  If you really like, you can get a copy as a ringtone too.  Smiley

Fellow NEMers, anyone have an opinion on NXT Lite? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=590421 Their IPO is ending soon, should I take a chance or is it a scam?

Their are better projects to put your money in. No one will tell you them because they are waiting for the projects to be released. Once they are released they will start promoting them like crazy and by that time it is too late to make big profits. That's all I can say.

NXTL also seems like it has a probable huge number of sock puppets, something which people raised issue over but nothing was really done about it,

Are there better projects?  Honestly hard to say, I read the ANN section all the time and don't really see any.  Most of the alts coming out are still first generation $hitclones

Thanks. I was mainly looking out to see if it was associated with any big red flags. I'll take a gamble, if it bombs it won't be that much of a loss. As the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

After NEM's launch, the initial stakeholders only have two options, hold or dump. We can give them one other option, spend.

Crowd-funding sites are very popular right now. If we use Kickstarter as an example, it's global rank is 822 and it's rank in the US is 387. Kickstarter has several limitations.

-Only project creators from certain countries are permitted.
-Charity and awareness campaigns are prohibited.
-Projects must fit within one of 13 categories.
-High fees, they take a 5% cut of the pledged funds plus Amazon Payments get 3-5%.
-You are only backing projects, the terms and conditions do not allow investment returns (no movie distribution rights or dividends).

We could create our own crowd-funding site based on NEM, without these limitations. Project creators from all countries will be welcome and they will have the option of offering dividends. The fees will be lower.

Our NEM crowd-funding platform could be the first "company" on the Asset Exchange. For now let's call this company "NEMfunder". The fee will support the operating costs (administration, marketing, hosting, etc) the remaining profit will be distributed to NEMfunder shareholders.

Instead of just saving or selling their NEM, the stakeholders will now be able to buy shares of NEMfunder. If your plan is to hold NEM, a better option might be to buy some NEMfunder shares. Owning NEMfunder shares denominated in NEM will give you leverage. In the future, if the value of NEM increases threefold and the NEMfunder share price doubles the value of your NEM holdings would multiply by 6 times.

If we issue 10,000,000 shares, it may look something like this:

NEMfunder total shares= 10,000,000
70% internal shares= 7,000,000 (80% for employee salaries and 20% expansion fund)
30% external shares= 3,000,000 for public offering issued on the NEM Asset Exchange.

Employees of NEMfunder will receive internal shares. We will be needing developers, marketers and a stay-at-home CEO. Anyone on the NEM dev team is invited. To add to the credibility and momentum of this IPO, anyone in the NEM core team is invited.

To get this going I registered www.NEMfunder.com and www.NEMstarter.com (also NXTfunder.com, in case our neighbor NXT likes it).

What is the next step to bring NEMfunder into existence?

Good idea, but we already have fund.nemcoin.com.
NEMstarter has a good ring to it, if nothing else it could always forward to fund.nemcoin.com
A note: Currently fund.nemcoin.com is just a placeholder site. We still need a developer to create a REAL crowdfunding site that will accept currency and have the required security features, etc. Once someone creates a better site, it will take the subdomain of fund.nemcoin.com, and the current site will cease to exist.
It's my understanding that there are no developers currently working on a crowdfunding type site for NEM, so the position is still open!

Sounds great...
I like the sound of Nemstarter.com.

If NEMstarter sounds better, we can go with that.

What I am proposing is a virtual company listed on our Asset Exchange. Being a virtual company, NEMfunder will have less restrictions than the other funding-type businesses. The operation can be more flexible.

NEMfunder will be a global funding platform for any project, it's currency is based entirely on NEM (think Kickstarter + SharkTank + NEM - fiat). Entrepreneurs, small businesses, anyone can use our funding platform to raise NEM for their project. They also have the option to offer equity or financial returns in NEM.

To get NEM established as a currency, we must take fiat out of the equation. We should think of new ideas and businesses solely in terms of NEM. Let the exchanges and gateways handle the fiat<-->NEM conversions.

I wish we can have a feature that would automatically convert our NEM to USD for purchases online.
Like buying stuff on ebay and amazon. Wouldn't that be a ground breaking CRYPTO. Lets make it happen DEV team. What do you think of that Utopianfuture is it even possible

It would be best if you could pay with NEM on amazon and ebay Wink
We need to stop thinking of FIATs as the standard that we'll always have to live with. We need to get away from it and embrace cryptos as the future.

NEM to FIAT is a good idea, but for NEM to be successful, we need retailers to start accepting NEM.

Imagine if the CEO of Amazon said alright, as of tomorrow, we're adding NEM, Sharecoin, and maybe a handful
of other coins. We need to steer away from FIAT.

The future is bright :-)

due to nem having an asset exchange.. i think the best way to go about this is target the large companies and try and get them to launch their shares on the asset exchange..

this way the company must pay dividends to buyers of shares in nem(most likely) so how do they acquire nem to pay dividends? through profits from shares(which will run out), accepting nem as payment for their goods or services, or by buying them.. the cheapest way would be to accept them as payment.. if you can get even one very large company to launch shares it will give great exposure to nem... and will give it legitimacy in the eyes of the smaller retailers!

To have a large company use our asset exchange would be great for NEM. It will also be good for them, it will demonstrate to all their potential shareholders that they are forward-thinking and willing to take a risk to invest in the future. Also, businesses that are too small to qualify to be on a conventional stock exchange will use our asset exchange. I can see a ton of small mom and pop operations using the asset exchange, not only to raise capital, but to promote their business to a far greater audience.  NEM's asset exchange will be the new crowd-funding 2.0

It is little bit unethical to like kodtycoon has suggested, IMO marketing should lead to the point when news outlets wake interest about NEM and write stories etc.

Well, I heard that Microsoft pays producers of computers to make them incompatible with older versions of windows, to force people to buy new version every 2 years. I see guys, that lot of you here are idealists, It is nice. Im just not sure if success goes hand in hand with idealism. Just saying.

Why is it unethical to pay for written stories?
What if everyone does this? Then you are left in the dark with your superduper product.

There is no harm in paying to get noticed. You do the same at events. You pay an admission fee to be part of the event, hence you pay for the attention. Paying a few papers and THEN getting noticed by the unpaid press / the public is very normal to me.

+1 It's called marketing.

We all could do this right NOW  Wink

you seem like a kindhearted person  Smiley. We need guys like you in NEM. I think we can only do charity once we have a functional currency. For now best we can do is spread awareness of NEM and think of ideas to make NEM a viable form of currency.

I have a plan for charity (could be fun) when we make the development contract announcement. So start to think of your best charity.

UP are you thinking charity or charities? If the former than I would suggest a charity with global reach to reflect the movement and stakeholders

KC

I'm glad to see the NEM community will also be involved with charitable intentions. Personally, I like Kiva, Doctors without Borders and Direct Relief.
www.kiva.org  www.doctorswithoutborders.org  www.directrelief.org

Before the NEM team selects a charity, please use the free database in Charity Navigator to make certain they have a good performance ranking. The charities are scored based on financial health, and accountability & transparency metrics.  www.charitynavigator.org
Kiva scores 68.69 out of 70
Doctors without Borders scores 62.03 out of 70
Direct Relief scores 69.90 out of 70
