Dear Community,

We are very excited to announce that the network upgrade at block 232000 was successful and Sigma has been fully activated. This upgrade officially makes NIX the first network to implement Sigma on mainnet. NIX’s Sigma integration introduces a new level of privacy for the NIX network and introduces its own custom implementation among the many privacy oriented projects with reused technology.

This upgrade also includes the final version of our custom, built from scratch, Off-Chain Governance implementation.

Sigma
Sigma brings both scalability and enhanced privacy to NIX and its has been successfully activated at block 232000.

Sigma allows us to significantly scale our privacy transactions by decreasing the on-chain size by 94%, as well as remove the trusted set-up previously needed with Zerocoin. This makes privacy on NIX much more scalable while even increasing the anonymity set NIX has to offer. With the trust-less setup, high anonymity set, and scalability sigma bring to NIX, the privacy utility on chain is now extremely competitive when compared to top projects such as Monero.

Privatized funds made prior to this update can now be redeemed using the command “unghostamount” followed by the amount in the debug console. If unsure of your previous account balance, “getwalletinfo” will return your legacy ghost balance.


Off-Chain Governance
In a first ever blockchain governance solution, the entire NIX community can now make proposals on network changes/enhancements/additions to be voted on by both node owners and stakers on the NIX network; completely off-chain without bloating the NIX blockchain. There are already great proposals made, and more coming in daily. The future of NIX is strong when the community backing and supporting the project can also decide on where to move the project forward.

We are very excited to announce that NIX Core 3.0 is now ready and released for mainnet! This update comes with many exciting features, most notably — finalized Off-Chain Governance, as well as our newly integrated privacy protocol enhancement, Sigma.

Off-Chain Governance
Off-Chain Governance will be active immediately and is now available for mainnet use with this release. In a first ever blockchain governance solution, the entire NIX community can now make proposals on network changes/enhancements/additions to be voted on by both node owners and stakers on the NIX network; completely off-chain without bloating the NIX blockchain.

Sigma
Sigma introduces a major overhaul to NIX existing privacy layer and is a replacement to zerocoin, the initial library NIX utilized as an on-chain zero-knowledge locational privacy protocol. Sigma brings both scalability and enhanced privacy to NIX and will activate at block 232,000. Old privatized funds made prior to this update will be able to be redeemed after sigma is activated on the network.

Conclusion
NIX 3.0 brings a revolutionary update with many new additions that solidifes NIX’s tech. This is a mandatory update for users and clients before block 232,000.

We are thrilled to announce that NIX will be the first Proof-Of-Stake cryptocurrency to implement Sigma, a new highly scalable zero-knowledge privacy protocol. This continues the trend of rapid and successful development at NIX Platform, including the recently launched Off-Chain Governance beta.

Sigma allows us to significantly scale our privacy transactions by decreasing the on-chain size by 94%, as well as remove the trusted set-up previously needed with Zerocoin. This makes privacy on NIX much more scalable while even increasing the anonymity set NIX has to offer.


Sigma spends are 16.5x smaller than Zerocoin and only 6x larger than public transactions
Sigma has now been adopted into the NIX codebase as a Ghost Protocol addition, and several significant changes have been made in regard to NIX’s existing privacy functionalities:

NIX’s 2-Way-Ghosting technology that utilizes Commitment Key Packs has been adapted to adhere to the Sigma protocol. This allows for the continuation of the ability to send mints without spending into public coins while keeping both sender and receiver anonymous. Furthermore, with Sigma, we have significantly reduced the length of CKPs by 73% which in itself is an amazing achievement.
Deterministic CKP developments that no longer require the need for multiple address recreation. One short simple key can be used for CKP payments.
Deterministic Ghost Vault wallet which allows coin backups and recovery through a single seed phrase.
Previous denomination sets are now changed to include a sub-coin amount to allow for a fee model for the NIX commitment-key-pack payment scheme. As well, three denominations have been removed from the previous implementation which will now allow for a larger privacy set and thus higher anonymity. Commitment Key Pack transactions (2-way-ghosting) now rely on a dynamic fee placed module which will utilize the sub-coin denomination to match the fee system built in the Ghost Protocol.

Sigma CKP’s are 27% the size of older Zerocoin CKP’s
Code has been merged into NIX’s public repositories, and a public test-net will be launched soon. We invite everyone to join us and test alongside our developers.

Massive credits to the ZCoin development team for creating the first Sigma cryptographic codebase implementation and their developments on these grounds.
