May be a dumb question but are those 3 white fan blowing air to the cards or sucking hot air away?

Most computer fans blow air in the direction of the back of the motor. The fans in the picture are likely blowing air to the cards.

Ok, time for a bit of showing off my rig:

5x Sapphire Radeon 7970
3750kHash/sec Litecoin
and blowing the heat right out of the window!

Is that window always open? What if it starts to rain?

Been meaning to post this for a little while, but I've only just got round to it. 6 x 7950s with another 3 soon to come. Currently managing about 3600 kHash/s mining litecoin. Its a group project with six of us involved, but I've ended up doing most of the setting up seeing as everyone else had exams, whereas I'm on a year out from uni.

Nice woodwork.

I am working on building a good Ubuntu Live ATI ISO file today in an attempt to eliminate all of the hard drives by using USB thumb drives, that'll save on electricity as well as hardware costs going forward.

I'm actually doing the same right now.  How far along are you with it?  I'm stripping it down to use openbox wm and using 12.10 w/ 3.8.2 kernel.  Having it set up to load into ram so that I can pull the stick and boot another machine.  Also apache and psql with a web interface so you can log in over LAN and check status.  The web interface is whats taking most of the time though.  But at least it will be responsive so i can check it on my phone if i decide to open ports on my router.  PM me if you wanna compare notes.

Are you guys familiar with BAMT?

This is the array of ~140 Cairnsmore CM1 boards I built last summer.  The last time I had all of them hashing on a single pool they were pumping out around 115 GH/s.  Power demand is 6.5 kW, not including cooling.  I've moved them to a better location for summer, which is why I'm comfortable posting now

When I saw Skyfall I laughed at the lame crypto gear the movie's villian had.   Grin

Wow! How large was your investment, and how much have you made out of it? By the way, nice flashlight Smiley

Here's my tubminer, happily chugging away at 890 Mh/s:

Finally I setup the unit, and add some mobility to it, so I can drag it instead of lift it up Wink

Nice IKEA hack there. The Lack tables are very useful for all sorts of things.

I do believe I have had the largest mining setup that didn't involve ripping off investors.  For a while it was about 0.5% of the total network hashpower.  The only other single players of that scale were Giga, and Amazingrando.

How about Artforz? He should have been pulling more than a few percent of the hashing power himself at some time.

here are 2 pics taken from one of my rigs..
5x5850's in the left motherboard and 3x5850 in the right. 2x segotep GP1100G power supplies, each powering 4 cards:

What speeds are you getting out of that? 2.8 GH?

The sudden bump from $560 to $639 a couple of hours ago could be someone having early information about a leave result. I don't know how that would be possible since the voting hadn't even closed by then, but I'm not familiar with how the counting is organized.

It could also just be a so-called dead cat bounce.

Would you care to explain how you came up with that number?

What's your take on the UK referendum and the BTC exchange rate?

The United Kingdom European Union membership referendum will take place on thursday. How do you think the result will affect the BTC exchange rate?

The most popular opinion seems to be that BTC gains strenght in times of economic uncertainty, and a Brexit would certinly be classified as such. I agree. I think a "leave" result of the referendum will lead to a spike in the BTC exchange rate. 150 USD or more, probably within an hour.

I also think the opposite is true: A "remain" result will lead to a drop, but not as strong. The reasons I think this effect will be weaker are mainly the two following:
  • "Remain" is the most expected result. Take a look at the gambling sites if you don't believe me.
  • Many traders who have bought BTC in anticipation of a "leave" result have benefited from the rally since the end of May. They are not in a hurry to cut any losses.

So... has anyone here actually bought a coin for $700+?

(serious question, JJG is exempt)

Sure. Lots of people did that on the way down from $1163 back in the end of 2013. I know I did. Glad I held on to them.
