Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI
by

I know those talks here are being about FPGA having them at home running and configured.

But does somebody have already looked into the possibilities of Amazon EC2-F1 instances? They are also providing FPGA in their datacenters (1 instance consists of 8 pieces of  16 nm Xilinx UltraScale Plus FPGA's).

As you can build images and re-deploy on any other FPGA i was wondering that might be in interest somehow? I just wanted to bring that up as another opporunity which might be in interest.
I would definitely try that out - if i understand this might be possible to run "off-shore" rather than home but still having dedicated hardware. Therefore i would be in a need of understanding if all the work being done here is also able being used and replicated in the Amazon Cloud/Datacenter. (especially the bitstreams/firmware)

Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers,

Afterburner is good OC software for gpu, just one adjustment for all gpu. But i have been stop using it, because I think every gpu has its own characteristics although 1 type. I once used it and i checked in hwinfo 2-3 gpu occurred "GPU memory error". So now i prefer to use overdriveNtool to setting OC my gpu, although adjusting per gpu but it worth . And I think hashrate is more stable.

There is for a long time a setting where you can adjust every single GPU by itself. I am not using one for all settings as you mentioned they are not ideal (different RAM manufacturers etc.)

I amrunning 1703 and 1709 with adrenaline 18.3.4 and AB 4.5.0 - that is the first combination which is showing me more than 8 GPU and let me adjust their settings - so there must be something changed in the software. It did not show more than 8 GPU's in the past.

Afterburner 4.5.0 now supports more than 8 GPU - yeah :-)

Hello everybody,

today i have upgraded one of my rigs which resulted in having 9 cards running on it.
I also upgraded and installed to driver version Adrenaline 18.3.4.
Then i realized that afterburner pushed out a new version 4.5.0

After installing and ramping up everything i realized that afterburner is now showing my all 9 GPU's :-)

There is nothing written in the changelog - but it seems they have been silently enhanced it to support more than 8 GPU's.
See screenshot:
https://picload.org/view/dorwrwll/9gpus.jpg.html

I just wanted to let you know as there are many ppl outside who like to use AB for their convenience.

Cheers,

Yes you can definetly use the m2 to pcie adapters to connect 2 more cards. that's how i run all my rigs with 8 cards (asus z270 -p) - i bought them on ebay for a few bucks.
be careful with bios settings - they need to set to PCIE forced and gen2 otherwise they won't work.

I'm switching my rigs to your mining pool.
Small suggestion: implement worker id's if it's not a big deal.
[/quote]

It is implemented - you just need to query your wallet - there you can see your workers

did you thought about a multi geographic setup for hardening? having a high-performance server in germany and looking for partners. PM if interested.

I now gave your pool a retry and started dual-mining again, i'll let you know as soon as there are numbers out

An RX580 gives the same amount of hash on Blake2S as my whole 6 card GTX 1060 rig. Am I doing something wrong?

Nvidia Cards are not that efficient on such algos (Blake2s, etc) as Radeon's are - there is nothing you can do except buying them :-)

Just set it to only mine ETH:

ETH - Total Speed: 56.275 Mh/s, Total Shares: 2, Rejected: 0, Time: 00:01
ETH: GPU0 26.862 Mh/s, GPU1 29.413 Mh/s
GPU0 t=60C fan=47%%, GPU1 t=49C fan=47%%

Is there anything worthwhile dual mining or is that just adding stress on the cards?

at the moment just adding stress and consuming more energy.
Wait for claymore until he releases new algos for new coins.....

For -ethi see the first page.

i f I set -ethi 7, will this change my hash rate too? or maybe for stability -ethi 9?

I have reboots every  3 to 12 hours.
The higher ETH mining intensity, the more consistent effective hashrate you'll get. If your rig reboots that often, maybe your cards are underpowered?

Interesting - what is your intensity which you are using for ETH mining?

I have it on standard values but i am not sure if this is ideal. my blue statistics (current effective hashrate) is pretty wild going up and down.

is this generally normal or should i consider raising the intensity? i am not dual mining....

thanks!

Is it possible to delay all mining until DAG generation completes?  I have a GPU that's pretty touchy and if the mining starts before it's DAG is generated the GPU will never come up.  This causes the app to restart and sometimes crash.   I've used the serial options and tried to slow it down but that doesn't prevent the mining from starting before DAG generation on all cards.  Just a thought.

Thanks!

see the documentation:

-gser   this setting can improve stability on multi-GPU systems if miner hangs during startup. It serializes GPUs initalization routines. Use "-gser 1" to serailize some of routines and "-gser 2" to serialize all routines.
Using values higher than 2 allows you also to set custom delay between DAG generation on GPUs, for example, "-gser 5" means same as "-gser 2" and also adds 3sec delay between DAG generation (can be useful for buggy drivers and/or weak PSU).
Default value is "0" (no serialization, fast initialization).

i would recomment starting with -gser 3 to serialize it with 3 sec. delay.

if that doesnt help you can also try it with -lidag 2, which sets the intensity lower when DAG creation

I am running 2 rigs which are completely identical. The first one runes 1709 win10x64 with beta blockchain drivers and does that pretty stable. sometimes the watchdog is restarting the rig but that's ok in anyway for windows.

The rig2 has the exact same architecture and hardware, but as i have been experiencing issues with 1709 setup and drivers i decided to go with 1703. installation is completely the same.
But after 2-3 days approximately the rig stops responding. the watchdog is not kicking in restarting the rig - i cannot figure out why. There is also nothing in the logfile which might help.
Have you disabled Windows Updates and Driver Update? You can use Win 10 tweakers to do it, e.g. Win 10 Spy Disabler.
I've seen similar issues when a new driver is installed from Windows Update repository.

Thanks for your reply - yes those are disable, but i will double check again to be sure.

Any ideas? I have attached the last lines from the claymore logfile. btw. i am running 10.3.
Thanks so much for your help - i would be great getting those freezing state rid of. rebooting is ok, but it doesnt at some point....

v10.3:

- added support for Adrenalin drivers (GPU sorting, fan/temperature/clocks management).
- fixed issue with possible GPU crash during miner shutdown.
- now miner shows PCI bus number for every GPU.
- a few minor improvements.
- EthMan: some bug fixes and minor improvements.

PS. Linux version will be available in a few days.

Hello,

could it be that this miner version results in higher temperatures? I need to run 1 card with 85% fanspeed to keep it at 66°C - before it was 75% speed.

It's generally strange because another card runs at 51°C with 47% fanspeed. Where are those big discrepancies coming? Same Bios, same card/gpu and same speed.....

In 1-3 days I will release new version with Adrenalin drivers support (fan/temperature/clocks management) and some other improvements.

Good news... I guess. What's the benefit of using latest adrenalin drivers? Are there any improvements?

I don't see any improvements, but some people want to use latest drivers anyway.

Thank you for that - that's good to know. I am still on blockchain beta drivers because those were the only drivers which were working with 1709 without issues.

Hello everybody,

i am pretty new to that - so hello everybody, but i have read really a lot to understand everything and now have setup my first rig with rx580 pulse 8GB cards.

Genereally they are working pretty well despite 2 facts which i am not pretty sure about. One is claymore related.

At some point it seems that one card is dropping it Mh/s to 0 - resulting in a hang process. Claymore miner then restarts this thread but it then hangs at POOL/SOLO version line when posted. Nothing is happening anymore. I need to restart the entire rig to get this solved.

Do you have any idea where this error comes from? I mean restarting the thread is great, but it doesnt work on my rig. (windows 10 x64 btw.)

Thank you so much,

This is a common problem when a card it pushed too hard (overclocked, dcri too high etc). Reduce settings until card is stable.

Thank you for that. Lowered Ram speed now just a little and it seems to be stable.
Please let me ask a last question.
Is is normal, when those cards (all are the same type of 580rx pulse 8gb) are having different temperatures when running? i recognized that some cards need just 62% fan for running with 65°C - others need 75% fan.

Anything i should adjust here?

Thanks again,
