I would need pretty quick shipping. Let me know. Amazing is around $200 including shipping (I have prime). You'll need about $60 to ship to Canada, so to match Amazon price would be max $150 USD before shipping.

A friend of mine has a bit of space in Canada for anyone who wants. Not a lot, perhaps 5-10 miners (~7-13 KW). You can PM me if you need it.

APW3++ in 110V plug?
by
usablehead
on 21/01/2018, 20:19:14 UTC
Hi there,

I'm testing an S9 miner to see if it works...

I'm told by a friend he ran it using the APW3++ in his garage and that there's no need for 220V. He did run it for 2-3 weeks like this.

Is this normal? Can I run it on any (dedicated) circuit even with a 120V outlet?

Or, perhaps his garage happened to have a 220V outlet, but he did not use any sort of special plug.

Alas, I'm a bit new to electrical (although I'm very familiar with the IT side of computers.)

How to sell miners? Am I doing something wrong?
by
usablehead
on 20/01/2018, 22:03:27 UTC
Hi there,

I have one S9 I'm trying to sell.

I priced it at what others were selling it for on the forums, but for some reason I'm not getting interest. Granted, I asked to use PayPal and not an Escrow. PayPal has buyer protection and I'm not familiar with escrows.

Also posted it on Amazon and again no bites. (Granted I'm a new seller and there's a "warning new guy here" label above the sales name.)
I even discounted it considerably below the lowest price.

I thought these things were supposed to sell like hotcakes?

Where else should I try to sell and what am I doing wrong? At this point, I feel mining would just be more profitable but I don't want to degrade the value by using it.

I don't want to post the link in the forums since I don't want to self-promote here. (I guess if you were creative you could check my older posts by username.)

PM me and I'll send you an image link. I just dont feel comfortable uploading an image or using imgur, which I'd need to do due to my rank.

I edited my message to clarify escrows are accepted.

Located in Canada.

Either $5300 CAD or $4300 USD. Includes shipping to Canada or continental USA.
Warning: If you're in the USA, you'll need to pay customs fees. Not sure what that cost would be.

Was shipped to me directly from Bitmain.

So, according to this, someone could make a wallet, use the ShapeShift API to easily convert into Tether, and then read the balance on the blockchain?

@MadGamer can you confirm?

This would be an interesting idea for a wallet.

I'm considering buying an Antminer S9 - Batch 6 January. Is that normal?
by
usablehead
on 19/11/2017, 05:03:02 UTC
I have a decent-ish offer on buying a new Antminer S9.

I'm told it's from the Batch 6 January and includes a PSU. $2000.

Want to ensure this is in fact an OK deal(ie anything wrong with that batch), and if there's anything I should know as a (somewhat) n00b to mining.

Thanks!

Sites that give free satoshi: Dangerous?
by
usablehead
on 12/11/2017, 07:44:42 UTC
Hi there,

I'm finding sites like this one:
http://freesatoshibit.com/

That seem to give free Satoshi if I go there every X seconds...

Are these potentially dangerous?

Let's set aside for a minute the sillyness of wasting time on these sites. It could be fun just to see the "plunk" of a satoshi into a new wallet I'm testing, for example.

Re: Can I lose Segwit2 fork coins due to not holding enough bitcoin?
by

ok sounds good.. but suppose I was a buy and hold sort of investor.. In that case, I'd be stuck with keeping the forked coin in the exchange until it's valuable enough to pay transctions fees (if ever)...

And exchanges can be hacked so I don't like leaving BTC in there long. But confirming my thinking here, is that correct?

Can I lose Segwit2 fork coins due to not holding enough bitcoin?
by
usablehead
on 06/11/2017, 09:22:36 UTC
Hi all-

I heard from a friend that there's a "gate" for receiving the Segwit2 fork.. That is, if you have a small amount of bitcoin, you don't get anything from the fork!

I have a friend who said that this made him lose out on the last fork, since he had only a small amount of bitcoin.

Can someone please confirm this, the minimum amount to hold, and the details?

Also, I'm guessing if my coins are in an exchange, then I'm not affected since the exchange will get it for all their bitcoins? Or not?

Bitcoin options. Or, leverage or use margin? How, where?
by
usablehead
on 02/11/2017, 08:42:32 UTC
Is there a way to buy an option on bitcoin today the way I can buy options on a stock? Any recommended services / exchanges?

For pure leverage... Is there a recommended exchange that allows margin / leverage to buy bitcoins?

I'm new to bitcoin.

I found BitMex on Google. Not sure how good it is. Doesn't seem to support simple options which ideal for me.

My goal is either (1) buy an option or (2) to buy a few bitcoins on margin/leverage, and sit on them for a year or two. (Not day trade.)
