Re: Best way to rotate assets in bitcoin

I initially thought that my second reply explains it. Nevertheless, the graph of BTC price 2010 - 2025 explains it even better. Though it is not having a big sense the point is close to the riddle if Achilles is going to catch up with the turtle if you know what I mean. On the short distance value will always overcome the price and some extra fiat will always remain. It's like get profit from BTC1/100 , then get profit of BTC1/500 and so on. Of course the total amount seem to reduce in amount, but the total value growth supposed to cover all the expenses isn't it?

Thanks a lot to all commenters in this thread! Yes I do fully custodial storage. And no, I don't have opportunity to avoid private owned exchanges. Like literally on the next corner. The trick is I use to switch countries for that. And last but not the least. So many experienced posters have missed the point. By "clean" I mean that BTC was not involved into criminal based transactions whatsoever. Which is a broken highway even in the case of USA tradeoff from Silkway and German Government after criminal seizures funds.
Conserning the strategy. It looks like straight line up in the perspective of 2010 - 2020 isn't it? So I consider a halving to halving term is sufficient for small bargains to make. Not quite sure about the policy but if you consider the fact that private propety prices have changed gradually from 666666BTC down to 66BTC and not long to wait it to be 6BTC per house. That makes my plan quite reasonable isn't it?

Best way to rotate assets in bitcoin

Have half of BTC at hand. Want to find a way for better investment rotation to be done. So far invented such a scheme. The whole amount to be exchanged for any local currency. Surplus since last investment to be converted back to BTC. Remaining - initial investment - to be spent on daily needs. Converted BTC to be put back into wallet. Two points of interest here.
First: Does this way of turnover looks reasonable at all?
Second: How to make sure I use "clean" BTC from source of exchange?

In addition, the article does not contain a detailed description of the essence of the events, and it is worth noting that the football fans were also Russian-speaking.

Frankly speaking I don't like Putin. Does it mean that I should speak only Eglish since Putin speaks Russian?
To make it understandable. Try to write down your sentence on a T-shirt and walk down the streets in Russia. How long you would walk out doesn't matter to the fact where you'll come in the end. If there's absolute 100% (oh, that doesn't count in Russia! Make it 146%!) support for war raging among mostly russian speaking population on both sides, then why oh why should government officials rip out the tongue of Free Press, independent Media and simple protesters on the streets of Russia? They do not afraid of the newspapers, journalists or retired babushkas on the streets! They are franzy afraid of the words they may hear from all these sources! The words of truth...

Hardware wallets are the best. Unauthorized access to your Ledger device with weak PIN or seed phrase seems to be primary leak. So sorry for your loss. This could serve a good example for storing your wallet|seed phrase secure! And what a person could do in a situation like this? Suppose one gets injured and hospitalized. How you going to secure your assets then?

Total sum transferred closes to 0.004 BTC. Of course it's hard to loose even one Satoshi without a reason. But it is always better to be safe than sorry. Before initiating any transactions with crypto I've purchased hardwallet. All of them have decent support and educative sources. That may help a lot if studied thoroughly. Very strange thing to me was - your link which I couldn't follow with Error 403. Some problems with server? I could manage only by copying transaction hash and forwarding it to other service.

I couldn't find anything on the recent custody of law enforcement agents have raided a few Russia based exchanges so I post the translation here. According to Russian crypto-news portal Bits.media:
"Search warrants were given to several trading platforms in Moscow. Russian article is here. One of the exchanges had placed an announcement about "technical survey"on their web-site."
Not much is known on the consequences but this header is repeated by several media outlets. As far as I can see crypto crowd didn't react on this custody occurrence. Any thoughts?

Re: How easy BTC could be susceptible to computer security threats?

Security is a complex field my friend.  What would you say is your background in security?  Do you have an idea on how to protect your computer's files, accounts, etc?  In any case of that, I would read Lopp's guides on security:  https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/security.html

Could recent 'ordinals' congestion be considered as an attack to blockchain? If so, how easy is it to upload a virus into blockchain itself?

If you consider "congestion" an attack, then every transaction is attacking the network.
I would describe my security experience as a complete noob. Zero knowledge on coding. Very careful approach to OS selection. In a sense to hold on Linux mostly. But whenever I hear "my friend" from a complete stranger I shrug in an attempt to avoid being used. In your case you may call me "complete paranoid" in security terms. And Blockchain use could vary in a huge limits. Same like use fiat for growing flowers in a backyard instead of funding REALLY BAD people out vice versa. One of the examples given here.

Please, read about rule #32 of forum's rules, there's absolutely no necessity to post multiple replies in subsequent posts within less than 24h. You risk getting your replies deleted and it's annoying to other readers.

If you want to reply to some different recent posts you can easily insert quotes from the Topic Summary below the reply entry box, there is an Insert Quote link in the top right corner of every recent post of the thread.

Regarding accounts in a HD wallet. You need to learn more about HD wallets and derivation paths. For a start, go here:
https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/keys/hd-wallets/
and
https://learnmeabitcoin.com/technical/keys/hd-wallets/derivation-paths/

I highly recommend to work through the Beginners section on that site, too. You can learn a lot there!

Accounts are simply like different branches in derivation paths. The common derivation path for native segwit addresses is:
m/84h/0h/0h/0/0 (equiv. to m/84'/0'/0'/0/0; master private key/purpose'/coin'/account'/external|internal/address index)

m/84h/0h/0h/0/0 -- first external (=receiving) address of first account for Bitcoin (coin=0) native segwit (purpose=84)
m/84h/0h/1h/0/0 -- first external (=receiving) address of second account (account=1) for Bitcoin (coin=0) native segwit (purpose=84)
m/84h/0h/2h/1/2 -- third internal (=change) address of third account (account=2) for Bitcoin (coin=0) native segwit (purpose=84)

Your Ledger X should use this common derivation path for native Segwit address derivation. But I don't use Ledger hardware wallets to know for sure.
Thank you for your good advice!
That seemed logical to me to underline thought of the commentator but I made several mistakes on the way...
Your links are valuable sources of study!

Otherwise you can simply check that onto a blockchain explorer.
Which most certainly is very useful function used all the times!

I hope for you to know the purpose and recovery words for every of your wallets (if those wallets use mnemonic recovery words). Because otherwise it's easy to mess up.
I certainly do hope so and yes, I do have recovery phrases for one of them - the hard wallet. The other one (@bitcoin_wallet as it's mentioned at their X profile) provides only backup files as a recovery meaning.

Quote
That is normal and by design to maximise privacy and avoid address reuse. A modern Bitcoin wallet will use any address of that wallet basically only twice without explicit user intervention: first when you receive coins and normally the last time when you send coins from that address.
That's what I got so far.

Quote
Normally an address that has been offered to be used to receive funds but didn't receive any funds for whatever reason should not expire. E.g. Electrum would offer such an address again (ok, may actually depend on if a receipt request stays in the list of receipt requests). It doesn't make much sense to keep track of unused addresses in between used ones, so a wallet will and should try to avoid this.
Thanks a lot for such a good hint!

Quote
But otherwise as others have said already, you can use previously generated addresses as long and often as you want and it makes sense for you. Keep in mind that address reuse can have privacy issues. When you give someone your address, this someone will be able to see any previously received coins to that address in the blockchain. The blockchain and transactions recorded in it are public.
I just got curious - some of old posters here often put that in a signature and this is not bothering them at all or is it?

Quote
There shouldn't be any messing up, but to be sure, it depends on what you actually use. Maybe you want to tell us which specific wallet you use? When you say "login", is your wallet some online wallet?
As it was mentioned above - I use couple of them: software is used for test transactions and as a playground for small amounts. The other one is a hard-based 'Ledger X' and serves as a vault for busyness.

Quote
I smell bad practice because most online wallets are custodial and that means: not your keys, not your coins.

Any decent wallet should show the sequence of addresses in that wallet, used and unused addresses.
And they both do so.
By the way - thank you so much Sir for your valuable comments!
