Re: Is New York Going too far?
by

As you may be aware, today's news: http://www.talkgold.com/forum/r398092-.html

Do you think this is going too far?  Will other States follow in their footsteps.  On one hand I do think that the whole drug issues around Bitcoin may be hurting those using it legitimately.

They aren't persecuting, they're simply asking if the companies are complying with regulations. Since NY SEC charged pirateat40, you would expect a lot more attention. People asked for gov to intervene, so here you go.

Where do you live, PrintMule (what country)?

His profile says Latvia, which could be about right? Though I thought Latvia was a little more expensive than that.

*To bystanders:  This is all happening in US of A, folks!  These people are living on $16 and change A DAY!  I used to spend more than that on smokes Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I live on a 7-8$ a day, and I must say my life is quite enjoyable as of today. And European prices are much higher than in US in many aspects. Talk about jealousy.

Well if you count only food that I can easily live on $8, but then rent + bills.

Can anyone identify these armor piercing 5.56 rounds?

Legal for civilians to own? Where can I buy some?

Looks like M855A1 EPR and probably illegal.

Re: Entitlement Mentality

1)  Profit margin is likely 5-10% because 1)  it's a food-service business, a type of business that is known for low profit-margins do to a long list of unavoidable expenses and high overhead cost and 2)  they aren't being run as efficiently as possible (aka sloppily).  Sure, it could be improved, but that's irrelevant to the context of the issue I'm raising.

Most of the fast food companies have operating profit margin around 30%, like MCD and BKW.

In Chicago, IL fast food workers are striking, protesting and demanding $15/hr where the state minimum wage is $8.25/hr.

The average profit margin for a company is about 5-10% and these idiots want their salaries nearly doubled, arguing that they're not receiving a livable wage.

I am familiar with the situation, since one of my acquaintance is one of the owners of a start up food place in Chicago. These people can strike, we cannot forbid them not to. If enough people refuse to work then the labor is too cheap and the companies need to raise their salaries. Of course I am against a government participation in this negotiation.

From top of my head, in my acquaintance's company there are ways of increasing your salary to ~$11 by taking appropriate certifications.

Um, no.  I'm getting a bit sick of this attitude of entitlement floating around the USA, and keep in mind I work in the field of social services.

I feel that I'm entitled to a certain salary too, I do ask for promotions once in awhile! So am I entitled? :-)

Re: Half income tax free
by
vampire
on 19/07/2013, 12:28:28 UTC
what if half of your income were tax free income. so half of your money is all yours and isnt taxed at all but the other half will be taxed.

would this benefit spending in the economy and reduce tax evasion?

So half of your income at 0% tax and the other half at 0% tax?

And people would avoid taxation even it was 1%.

Re: To liberals, if everything were paid for would you still demand taxes?
by
vampire
on 10/05/2013, 11:35:20 UTC
Let us say, for example, that some ultra super rich guy has spent his whole life accumulating half of the gold of the world secretly. He has died and put in his will that he wants the money from his gold to go toward paying for the US government spending. We are talking trillions upon trillions. The only stipulation is that no taxes may be collected while spending his money.

The budget will be met for the next 30 years, there is always the option of falling back to taxing if the money runs out.

Would you be ok with nobody paying taxes for those 30 years? Even rich people and corporations.

Half of the gold would cover only 1 year (us budget)

Even if you take the total wealth of USA - 90 trillions. It won't be enough for 30 years. US's budget is like around 4 trillions.

Being compliant in the United States alone is not enough they also have to be compliant in Canada.  As far as I can see Coinlab has made no representations that they are compliant in Canada.

Exactly. So the agreement is void. But it will take time to resolve it, like years.

Re: BFL Downgraded my shipping?!
by

on 03/05/2013, 16:09:29 UTC
When people were imported into the new system, everyone was put in express shipping.  Express shipping wasn't available prior to February, so everyone has been moved back to where they should have been.  No ones shipping was downgraded.

My shipping is priority mail as stated in my order's email, if "Standard Shipping - Only" is the priority mail that's cool.

I think MtGox agreed to US jurisdiction, thus it may allow a very quick injunction to freeze all Gox assets that a Japanese court would probably just assent to due to the agreement of jurisdiction. I would keep all funds out of Gox until you can see this taking years or not.

The contract is governed by laws of Canada, USA and Japan, if any of the these countries' law or regulation weren't complied with - the contract is void (it is actually is in the contract).

Data privacy laws, were they followed in all three countries?
Financial regulations of selling private accounts?

I can see that Coinlab was supposed to pay to MtGox for transfer, here is a scenario:

MtGox to Coinlab: It will take 5 million dollars to develop a solution to transfer all customers safely
Coinlab: WTF
MtGox: Read the contract
Coinal: I'll sue you for 75 millions
