I will say this over and over again until people realize this important point. Coins controlled by corporations will not succeed. A few bucks will be made and the coin will quickly be forgotten. Only grassroot community coins with active development with a REAL purpose and usecase will succeed. Direct your attention to coins that are not owned by corporate interest / ponzi/premine and you will find projects that genuinely believe in this that movement we are apart of.

It is unfortunate that the devs are pumping their own coin so hard. SDC was mined in 2 weeks so it is likely they hold large amounts of it, so I understand.

Re: Do u think ICO is Good or Bad
by

ICOs are toxic to the cryptocurrency world. If you look at the number of cryptocurrencies in the top 10 that aren't ICOs and are projects that haven't been premined with real use cases and have a community then the list is quite small. From the top, Bitcoin, Monero, DigixDAO, DOGE(kind of). There are other projects that are growing and have much smaller marketcaps, but for the most part a lot of projects are just not genuine. The sad part is these projects attract developers with good intentions and people that join community who are interested in the tech, but the project is a ponzi. All I can say is do your due diligence and read guys.

Re: There are many blockchain platforms and everybody says their is the best

Greed has blinded people from what is valuable about cryptocurrencies, it has become quite disgusting to see as everyone must have noticed. Whether on this forum or reddit everyone is pumping the coin of the week that has zero prospect of ever succeeding but only make them a quick dollar. Coins with no community are worthless as is evident with every coin that has been pumped and quickly forgotten. Everyone needs to start focusing on what we are trying to do with these brand new technologies. Will money be made along the way? Absolutely, but we need to remain fixated on the end goal and that is being your own bank. Many different cryptocurrencies with varying use-cases will co-exist with each other some acting as cash, gold, smart contracts and even things that haven't been created yet, but as a community we need to focus on real genuine projects. Instamines, premines and corporate interests have no place in a legitimate cryptocurrency. So if a coin has those qualities it is likely that coin is a scam because of the greed that has consumed this industry. I look forward to more grassroot projects that have genuine intentions and are excited about the technology and how much these technologies will disrupt today's world. Now get to work Wink

Re: How high will anon coins rise when their GUI comes out? (XMR, WBB, BTS, etc)

At this rate something like coinjoin + confidential transactions will be ready before any of the anonymous coins get a proper GUI. Segwit is comming soon so if the alts want to compete against bitcoin they better hurry.

Only having confidential transaction is pretty useless from a fungibility and privacy standpoint unfortunately. Much more effort needs to made for a currency to be fully private. Privacy must be by default otherwise the anonymity set for your currency is quite low. This category of cryptocurrencies excites me so I look forward to future progress Wink

Focusing on price is not particularly valuable for the coin. If you are only interested in speculation and making a quick buck that is fine, but we are trying to change the world right? Monero and other anon coins are valuable because they stop prying eyes from invading your privacy. Let's focus on the importance of these qualities and celebrate later Wink

Re: Could Monero replace Bitcoin soon?
by
vigZ
on 29/09/2016, 03:37:55 UTC
Monero will not "take over" Bitcoin, but there is no reason there can't be multiple cryptocurrencies that are all used for separate situations. Monero for regular purchases, Bitcoin for a store of value similar to gold, Huh for Huh etc. This is how it will likely be in the future. There is no one cryptocurrency that will "take over".
For today monero will not take over bitcoin, i agree, but if developer of monero keeps be updating and there are many people who support for monero include companies. I think it can be take over bitcoin although it will be hard and need long time.

It is better if multiple communities can coordinate and work together. Monero is the most anon coin, once RingCT releases in january it will be light years ahead of other coins, and Bitcoin is the most widely used cryptocurrency right now, but isn't anonymous and that is ok. The better we can all get along the better it is for everyone. We all know how important cryptocurrencies are in the world and the impact they will have. Some coins will have different uses and better usecases for different things, Bitcoin may not be the best thing for purchases compared to Monero for privacy. Each coin has its specific value so use it right ? Wink

Re: [ANN][SHIFT] Decentralize the web
by

Using DPoS is a very interesting idea for Shift. Would it be possible to also measure the quality of each delegates internet connection? Seeing as Shift will need peers that have high speed internet for phantom, ensuring the delegates also have really quick internet seems it would greatly bolster the network.

After some time there will be two different nodes on the network, delegate nodes to create blocks and phantom nodes to seed content. The network won't purely rely on delegates to act as servers.

We definitely need to rethink some parts of our economic concept with the dpos switch but at the same time it opens possibilities that were previously harder to achieve.

Ok ya that makes sense. Migrating to lisk codebase and DPoS would even let Shift, if it wanted to, run as a sidechain on lisk. While both Lisk and Shift are both in their infancy stages, once Lisk is more fleshed out and have released their SDK it would be possible to move the Shift network to a Lisk sidechain where it would still operate independently like today with its own coin but would allow Shift access to the Lisk ecosystem opening up opportunities for other Lisk sidechains to directly use Shift's services which would enable some pretty awesome things for both Shift and Lisk ecosystems. This move to DPoS and if what I wrote is possible, in the future I think Shift is on an even better path then it was before. It will likely take some rethinking about things but could be incredibly beneficial for Shift.

Hi guys, I see that you have developed a difficult situation and decided to help you to distribute your 225 mh connected to allocate pools speed.

It's good to see you back in this thread Smiley I am glad everyone is coming together to strengthen the network when it needs some stabilizing. Hopefully after this debacle is settled we can back to focusing on the potential of phantom. In the most recent release being able to create a website and letting it propagate through the network allowing access to your website anywhere through phantom is quite powerful.

It's good to hear you guys have the situation under control. Changing the block reward to 2 shift every 25 seconds should encourage more miners to secure the network in the meantime. Once the problem is resolved and the network is more secure will the block reward be changed back to the 1 shift per 25 seconds?

I know pow/pos is a little ways away but i think it is important pos stays in a supporting role of pow. Maybe an 80/20 split reward for pow/pos. Pos consensus, in my opinion, should not be the central consensus algorithm for cryptos. As we have seen with eth that any large thefts threaten a pos system or future pos system and i don't want to see that happen to shift.
