Funny math inside:

"You can see that in the chart below from Jason Kuznicki, which looks at the dollar value of all bitcoin transactions each day divided by the dollar value of all bitcoins each day"

Isn't it just amount of BTC daily  by all BTC ? Smiley What for to mess with dollar - those nowadays mathematics ...

Not worth reading.

Re: Chrome Browser extension: MtGox trading bot

As I've wrote lately - I've implemented simple "stop loss" function as I don't like to loose BTC - would prefer not to trade (I'm patient player Smiley.
So now the bot (at least my local version I'm testing) is using wallet history to check the price BTC was sold/bought and do not trigger trade untill the difference is less that certain amount (I've set 10% difference for a test) The effect is that my stupid bot is not trading at all Smiley as I have BTC bought at $113 and current price is around $120 (less 10% difference).
If the price will go above ~ $125 and then EMA trigger a trade - bot will sell (of course still have no warranty that then it can buy at good price - or how much time it will take to reach good price (again 10% low from selling) ...

Seems I've got some safety for a cost of less flexibility ... Sad

I think I will do yet a manual trade trigger with setting amount also manually.

PS.
Now I think ideally would be to add some flexibility to buying BTC (as I believe price will increase over time an I prefer to "seet on BTC" - maybe I'll differenciate it yet - maybe to 3% ... let's see what will happen Smiley

You're right. That's just my emotions with the bot - I don't like to loose BTC Smiley I would prefer loosing fiat ...
So I'm going to do something about it.
I m going to make an emotional bet: "BTC will raise in long therm" - and in this case - I would prefer to stay on BTC than sell it too low.
So I think to myself: I'm going to implement an algo which will prevent my stupid bot  from selling bTC lower than they were bought Smiley
How do You think about it ?

It seems to be "unproof" from minimal price fluctuations (like those from 2013-05-09 09:00).

I think it could be improved adding more smart algo to decide if to buy/sell (ie concerning also wallet history)
Did first step in this direction - just pushed mod which gets wallet history and displays it under chart.
Now we can think how to use the data deciding on current trade ... maybe some additional "wait" mode ? (as extention of currrent tradeEnabled flag)

I've just pushed some changes to my version (chart with trends, buy/sell thresholds etc).
The version is experimental one - however offset works fine - so Your BTC should be safe if You properly configure the bot.

You might consider doing versions for other exchanges that has  APIs e.g. bitstamp - probably minimal code changes for a potentially much bigger market

Yeah I know - also the api used in the bot is version 0 (obsolete one).
It would be good to separate the API handler functions and make it plugin-like Smiley
Anyone interested ? - Make a fork and do some work Smiley

I'm currently thinking on simulations

Nice simulation :_)

I think I could include such simulation in my bot.

However it would be some signifficant work.

First have to implement "noTrade" mode, then use this mode to generate data (each cell  as I think is an effect of going through some historical data with certain ema params).

It would have even some configurable simulation boundaries ...

No offence at all Smiley

What I ment by "market order":

Market order is when You are not specyfing certain price and agree on "market" one. I've short experience with MtGox - but I'm observing that it is probably just highest present "ask" bid if  you sell and lowest "sell" bid if You buy.

Last time the bot sold it gave me a huge difference in price:

http://i39.tinypic.com/34sf8rn.jpg

- so should go about 360 PLN ...

And from my transaction history:

2013/05/06 22:40:06 BTC sold: 0.63494606 BTC at 345.00000

Or maybe it is rather my currency problem ? Market in PLN seems not to be very deep. How to play on that ? Smiley

No - too much games are unhealthy Smiley maybe I'll just switch to USD.

If you read the post before getting angry, and checked my thread, you know that you can decompile the extension and get the source.

Angry ? Come on Smiley I'm not playing with BTC for business - I'm doing it for fun ...
Proof ? I've preserved original author BTC address in the code.

And don't tell me You don't know what's open source.

When You have to buy and then reverse engineer something to get the code - it is no longer open source.
I've just simply asked for clear declaration from You about it Smiley

And it seems that if Your bot is really profitable then it is smarter than original one Smiley

Mine just sold and cutted loses. So I will never tell people that they will make money on it. I just don't have to make any marketing Smiley

By the way - is Your bot doing just market orders or are You specifying the price ?

Original one was doing market orders - and this was generating additional loses.

Fixed - let's see what happens Smiley

It's nasty and draft - but for me enough.
Someone want's it in extension ? Please make a donation 0.1 BTC to 13eJdr8ndc3MJAeHGpVTNMPUtTGE8ANHpL
I think I can also do a visual simulation of different EMA long/short values - another 0.1 BTC Smiley

Currency for "getTrades" was not explicity specified like this: "getTrades.php?Currency=USD&since=..."
This caused a problem when I tried to switch to other currency...
Bot got stupid and sold - I am 0.01 BTC back Sad

So - my current mods:

- bot waits only 1 hour to confirm trend (tested)
- other currency possible (partially tested)
- selling only offset of BTC (tested)
- eliminating peaks in price (just by eliminating price when it's times more or less than previous - untested as I've not found the case)

I think it would be also possible to made trade frequency changeable by param in code - just dont need it for now Smiley

I'll wait yet if it works and put it on github for others to play.

Right now I'm playing a little bit with this bot Smiley

Quite nice piece of soft.

Already modified it slightly to play with only "offset" of account money (to left certain amount of BTC untouched, still all fiat amount to buy BTC).

For the bug You are mentioning (strange prices) - should be easy to just eliminate/average peaks in price - have to check - as it is already working on my Gox account Smiley

Oh - just saw it selling - "BTC offset" seems to work.

If anyone interested - I can put the source on github when It's more tested/stable
