Sorry if this has been asked, but I've been searching google for 20 minutes and nothing.

HOW THE HECK do I move the blockchain location on a mac?
I don't want it on my main SSD.
I see no options to change the data directory.
I'm using the default GUI wallet from the main Sumo website.

Thanks in advance!

full disclosure:   I am #2 holder on Cryptopia.  My short term outlook is over the top bullish, I expect 40-500% gains within the next month (to be wiped out over the course of the next week or two) -- or whenever buying more would induce maximum benefit (need a favorable one day moving average to achieve maximum +%).  Long term?  It's not worth a single satoshi.

Re: Claymore's CryptoNote AMD GPU Miner v11.3
by

Hi all,

I have not used Claymore before and have just set it up for my Vega rig,

I am getting approx 1750 h/s per card with xmr-stak this was nearer 2000 h/s

The miner displays the message 'this miner is not optimised for Vega'

Can someone tell me what I need to change and where.

I have tried several settings in config but they just make things slower or not work at all.

Thanks

castXmr is very efficient for Vegas
Are you sure about that?  Cast is closed-source.  Unless you (or someone) have a lot of VEGAs and have collected a lot of data over time, you probably have no idea if Gandalf hasn't padded the stats by 5-10%.  I guess the same thing can be said for binaries from any source.

XMR-STAK and SGminer both give comparable hashrates if configured correctly.  Besides, why run your cards at 1900-2000+ H/s with profitability where it is now?  Let them run cooler and save the fan bearings.

There are a lot cryptonight miners around that a much better than Claymore's. So if he doesn't want to continue development - leave 0% fee and exit is a right move!

Name it.
xmr stak
cast xmr
sgminer-gm 5-5-5
SRBminer

Thanks for those recommendations.  I'll give Cast and SgMiner a go to see how they do.  I have a feeling Cast may suit me well.
I use xmr-stak or sgminer.  Some motherboards (or is it the cards?) seem to like one over the other.
Some seem to prefer CastXMR but as it is closed source, I can't verify that the reported hashrate isn't a lie, so I don't use it.

Now if I could just get miner manager to work...
No idea about this, didn't even know it existed.

Anyone have any idea if it is yet possible to get good hashrates out of a linux setup with VEGA?
Did AMD ever release good drivers for linux?  How about the windows drivers, are we still stuck with
the August 23 blockchain drivers?

I googled the error and found post #4625 explains what's going on.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=638915.msg22374228#msg22374228

It has to do with not having enough virtual memory.

-dmem 0 prevents it from using double your memory and fixes the issue or you can adjust your virtual memory accordingly.

Seems like monero is much more memory intensive than ether mining. Lots of errors showing up now on my machines.

But anyone know why Claymore miner manager won't work when you're running Monero? I tried google... but no luck!
Yeah, this is correct for xmr-stak, cast-xmr, sgminer, and probably every other cryptonight miner.  Take your memory on all your video cards, add it up, and you need at least that much virtual memory.  Yeah, it sucks, because you can't use a very small SSD.

I've no idea what's up with tradeogre, but isn't it a bit early to call it a scam? The site went down yesterday, I suppose if it was just a technical issue then the owner would've posted smth on twitter. Since he hasn't, then maybe it was hacked.. we'll see, I guess.
Yes, far to early to call a small exchange being down for 1 day a scam.  They're vulnerable to DDOS attacks and technical issues.
For newbies: never trust a small exchange (especially an anonymous one) with more coins at one time than you're willing to lose.
TradeOgre is working fine today, and their wallet works, which is more than I can say for stocks.exchange.

looks like stocks.exchange is down again, have any of you used TradeOgre? safe to use?
I've used it, no issues at all besides a delayed transaction with ETN,
and customer service on Twitter was responsive within 24 hours.
It was just the ETN network's fault, sorted itself before CS got back to me.
All my transactions were worth less than 0.1 btc.

I don't like that it forces you to use Google Authenticator.

Re: EQUIHASH ASICS!?!?! Can it really be?
by

Now the acquisition of asics becomes unprofitable. I think a lot of people don't understand it but soon I think they'll understand and give up this idea. Now there is a shake-up for the whole market. The profitability of mining decreased to a minimum. I have a lot of friends selling rigs. Asics is generally impossible to sell. Nobody wants them. Cryptocurrency also has fallen dramatically in price.
ASICs are a real threat to decentralized cryptocurrency. But I'm optimistic new algorithms will be developed
that will remove not only the energy advantage of ASICs, but also the cost advantage, like with the new
Bitmain ETHash miner, which again has no energy advantage, but should have a 3-4x hardware cost
advantage upon shipping in August.

I think what is also may be needed for a truly decentralized cryptocurrency is a mechanism to quickly
change the algorithm and forking before development of an ASIC is possible. A mechanism that doesn't
allow for a conspiracy behind the scenes, a mechanism that doesn't allow for (very) advanced knowledge of
what the new algorithm will be. Probably would have to be done every 3 months, like clockwork.

I want to see an x16r yescrypt hybrid.  The x16r framework, but incorporating many different
yescrypt-like GPU-resistant algorithms.   But I'm not sure yescrypt is truly GPU-resistant.
Maybe it is just that nobody has coded a good GPU miner for it yet.

some one use my account... and sell my coin  etn and xhv...they transfer to they wallet..
this exchange not have confirmation to witdraw. sit
Never store your coins on a small exchange.
They don't usually have the expertise and resources to prevent themselves from getting hacked.
You can buy and sell, then transfer your coins out and store them somewhere safe.

Also, yeah, TradeOgre login doesn't time out, with no 2fa or email confirmation for withdrawal,
so if your own computer is hacked, someone can just remotely access your browser while you're idle,
and steal all your coins.  Also your computer should be configured to disconnect or log out when idle.
And not be kept awake by internet connections.  And firewalled sufficiently.
I personally take a final step and manually disconnect wifi before putting my laptop to sleep.
Just in case.  If you're using a phone to access an exchange, haha.

And not set up for remote access!  Chrome Remote Desktop, TeamView, other programs are great
for gaming and controlling mining rigs and whatnot, but you don't want that shit on the same computer
you use to access an exchange, much less your email accounts! Clear your caches often, and don't use
the same browser for your email and legit exhanges with shady exchanges! Haha.
Don't install random new altcoin wallets and sketchy miners (especially binaries)
on the same computer you use to access echanges.
Use a separate browser (or completely separate computer) for surfing random crypto-related websites,
and the browser should be locked down with javascript and cookies disabled, just for starters.
You can also sandbox various shit but I don't recommend that to a novice, can get tricky.
Just keep it separated on different machines.
I can go on and on, but it all boils down to this: You can't be too paranoid.

Three days did not go to the stock exchange, and all funds from the account went to an unknown direction.
And this despite the fact that the account is protected by 2FA ...
2FA means nothing if your phone with the google authenticator is hacked.
Especially if you access the exchange on the same phone instead of a laptop.

TradeOgre has no reason to want to steal your 0.008 btc until the day they decide to exit.
Of course a small operation like that can easily get hacked themselves.

Contact support @TradeOgre on twitter and they'll make it right, if it wasn't your fault.
I found them to be responsive within a day, and they made it right.

I have no idea what's inside those miners... It's possible that they stole some ip to clone gpu chips... who knows...
Good point!

sha 2 is the easiest algo... and so could be the most competitive... once samsung and maybe intel enter those little shit head from china will start to understand, that we know they want war and they will be served...

I think that launch of VPN service anytime soon is unrealistic, if you take a look at the current development status and the amount of work the devs needs to finish, they will need at least 4-6 months to release something useful. Question is if this coin can survive so long time. I was a large supporter of ITNS but currently I'm quite skeptic about future. Idea is good though. Market recovery is another topic and the question is how long it will last Smiley
Don't be such a Negative Nancy. Looking at the current development status, it doesn't look so bleak to me. The devs are open and honest and share their development status, which is a lot more than you can say for lots of other projects. Furthermore, ITNS has a plan and a vision and they're creating something actually new and useful and unique. Yeah, that does take time to do right. The devs are on track according to the timeline of the roadmap.

List of exchanges we can trade KOTO?
There was JamBTC, not an official exchange, but you could sell coins there. But the owner recently exit-scammed everyone.
Just a reminder, if you sell your coins on shit exchanges, do so in small batches, and withdraw immediately.

There is no current exchange that I know of. You can offer to sell your coins HERE and someone will buy them. Last price on JamBTC was around 200 sats.  Or just HODL, that's what I'm doing.  Some exchange will pick them up, probably soon.  Maybe apply to TradeOgre?  LOL. Another exchange that will probably eventually exit scam everyone, but at least for now it works, and works well, with actual customer service (contact them on Twitter).

I'm sure the KOTO team is working on getting listed on a legitimate high-quality exchange.

I dunno if this has already been suggested, but..... I kinda like the app/vpn Speedify. Found it yesterday, used it for one day, and canceled my other VPN.

It is useful in some situations, especially for me, having a satellite link with good bandwidth and high priority data cap but sometimes needing a faster ping, which I can get from my phone, but don't want to use too much data from my phone. Would be nice if we had that functionality (combining two local internet sources into something better)

Also could help if your mobile link is more responsive than a coffeeshop link, but you'd like to not hit your 22GB priority data cap too soon. Or if you have deep pockets, turn on redundancy and you get an even faster and more reliable link.

Or, you have 3 LTE links and you want to turn that into one massive mobile link, haha.

Or you're at your university and you plug in the ethernet and connect to the wifi at the same time. Plug in an extra wifi dongle too. You're being greedy now!  (and spending a lot of ITNS)

It's called link aggregation / channel bonding with or without redundancy.  Put it on the roadmap?  Grin

Re: EQUIHASH ASICS!?!?! Can it really be?
by
vorpalspear
on 04/04/2018, 08:47:26 UTC
no it can't be, but equihash is more prone to fbga than etheruem for example, so in the future it's possible to have the hash rate much higher, i think what you linked oculd be a rig that mine equihash, made of amd gpu like they did with the panda miner for etheruem, at first everyone claimed that it was an asic, but it was just composed by gpu chipset
The new Bitmain Ethash miner on the horizon (shipping in August) matches GPUs in hashrate/watt, so that indicates also it is probably merely some GPUs with lots of memory in a box.  But the thing is, it costs $800 for the equivalent of 5x 1080 Ti or 5x Vega 64.  So _if_ it really is some standard GPU chips in a box with memory, then this could spell the end of using regular graphics cards for mining, because you should be able to reprogram such a box o' GPUs for virtually any coin.  On the other hand, if new crypto-algorithms required the latest patented architecture of NVIDIA/AMD to be able to get a good hashrate, then maybe generic GPUs in a box won't be able to hack it.

What I'd like to see is something like x16r that combines the most supposedly-ASIC-resistant algos out there.  So it could use Equihash, a new permutation of daggerhashimoto, yescrypt, an Nvidia-Volta-specific algo, an AMD-Vega-specific algo, and a few more like the latest version of cryptonight.  So to mine something like this efficiently you'd need at the minimum a good CPU, a recent NVIDIA card and a recent AMD card all in the same machine.

I'm not a computer architecture expert, so I don't know if the above is a workable or good idea, but obviously something has to be done besides forking every 6 months. How do you know the core devs aren't colluding to produce their own ASICs ahead of release? People who want freedom and privacy will move to the more decentralized ASIC-resistant PoW crypto, and people who don't value their freedom or privacy will go back to using paypal and visa/mastercard.  And all the ASIC coins will be the first ones broken (probably covertly) by quantum computers.
