Re: Bitfinex's streaming (websocket) api

Using the subscribe as per bricky's post, I got some trades coming back. So thats good Smiley

However the reason it stops sending data is that it's expecting a response to the websocket_rails.ping event.

Code:
[["websocket_rails.ping",{"id":null,"channel":null,"user_id":null,"data":{},"success":null,"result":null,"token":null,"server_token":null}]]

Is bitfinex's websocket implementation working/live? I can connect successfully, but don't get any trade data streaming in...

Anyone had any success with this?

How does FOK (fill-or-kill) work? Can't seem to find a detailed explanation. Eg how long does it wait before being killed?

Re: Going to $340 on Bitstamp

Order books are essentially L2.  When I day trade stocks, the most helpful predictive factor is L2, and I only close buy/sell in no more than 5 minute intervals.  I think short-term / long-term is subjective.  I do agree that there's heavy manipulation going on though.

interesting. can you recommend any good L2 indicators worth paying attention to?

If the trend continues then we'll bottom out below $275.

Why can't it go lower? I mean, that kinda makes sense given how hard it bounced of 275.. but is that the only reason?

It only takes a dollar to place bids for 100k btc at 1/100000th of a dollar each.

You need to measure the bids in USD.

And the reason people bid that low is because for a very small investment you could make a great return if there was a flash crash that ate through all of Bitfinex's order book.

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the explanation Smiley

Hello,

How is "Amplitude" in the chart calculated for any given bar? I can't quite figure that out yet.

Thanks.

I came here to ask the same thing

Good job mods,

In fact it would be awesome to be able to optionally browse the forums with a "date-joined" filter. And my suggestion would be to dial it back to before the last bubble.

Ok we might miss out on a few decent more recent users, but the vast majority of the trolls and bearnoobs will go away. So that would be nice. Smiley

I'm catching up the hangout now. But TBH, feeling a tad skeptical

Quote
"The Elliott Wave Principle, as popularly practiced, is not a legitimate theory, but a story, and a compelling one that is eloquently told by Robert Prechter. The account is especially persuasive because EWP has the seemingly remarkable ability to fit any segment of market history down to its most minute fluctuations. I contend this is made possible by the method's loosely defined rules and the ability to postulate a large number of nested waves of varying magnitude. This gives the Elliott analyst the same freedom and flexibility that allowed pre-Copernican astronomers to explain all observed planet movements even though their underlying theory of an Earth-centered universe was wrong"

I'm struggling to understand some numbers appearing in the Bitfinex order book.

https://www.bitfinex.com/pages/ll_order_book

Upon scrolling to the bottom, one finds this.

The bid side looks particularly odd/unnatural.  Huh

Let me be more specific: 80% of the total orderbook is under $0.1

Are those bids really backed by real collateral funds held on the exchange(s)?

anyone have a good explanation?

https://bitcoinity.org/markets/list?currency=ALL&span=6m
 okcoin   279,155   BTC (6m volume)

https://bitcoinity.org/markets/list?currency=ALL&span=30d
okcoin   1,078,781 BTC (30 day volume)

Having so many hassles with this ID Verification.

I keep getting the error "Insufficient Data for Questions". I've pulled my TransUnion credit report, everything checks out and the data matches (name, addy, ssn etc).

Really sucks.

Did you get the phishing e-mail a little while ago? Because they sent an e-mail and you had to send a quick e-mail off to say you knew what you were doing.

Oh I see, yeah I didn't click anything like that. Due to the wave of phishing attacks I tend to delete/ignore emails from Bitstamp and instead sign in to the website directly.

Support replied said  they would re-enable if I confirmed I hadn't clicked on the phishing emails.... Which you know seemed a little odd, given an attacker could write "Oh hey all good" in the support ticket. Smiley

Hopefully this is just a temporary speedbump.

Can't withdraw BTC from Bitstamp
by
wamatt
on 26/03/2014, 09:10:06 UTC
Heads up, just tried to withdraw BTC from Bitstamp and received the following error:

"BITCOIN WITHDRAWALS ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR YOUR ACCOUNT."

I've logged a ticked in the meantime. Not sure if it's related, but haven't used bitstamp in months. 2FA is turned on, and I changed my password after a suggestion prompt, and then relogged confirming that it worked. My account is also verified.

Is this suspension normal?

by

It's probably too complicated, but have you considered plans to support Bitfinex via their API?

Complexity would due to the leverage and shorting. Additionally there are loan fee's on margin trades, all of which, would affect the P+L calculation
