I second this. It sounds like a cliche, yes, but we should all be aware that we are still here, unlike many who weren't so lucky. And be grateful for that. May this be a good year for all of you!

Do you scan QR codes on vehicles?
by
whatspopping
on 10/01/2025, 10:31:50 UTC
My friend is thinking about adding QR codes to his company car, and we did some research (best practices, creative ideas). It got me curious about how effective this could be. I came across some great tips and interesting stats here; apparently, businesses using QR codes on vehicles reported a 40% boost in website traffic and a 20% return on investment.

My question is - do you scan the QR codes you see on cars? For me, it depends on how well they’re placed and how intriguing the CTA is. Have any of you tried this for your business or scanned one yourself? I’d love to know if this approach works for getting traffic or if it’s more of a hit-or-miss idea.

Re: Recommend a 10/10 movie for me

Deer Hunter.
The best film about friendship and indeed about many things.

The movie is gorgeous. The music is perfectly matched, picturesque locations in the form of mountains and forests, the acting and the overall atmosphere of the USA.

This is a true masterpiece and the cast is just fantastic.

When it comes to older movies, I'll say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is another must-watch classic.

I'd say he should track gross income and net profit for sure. And budget variance, to understand the difference between your planned budget and what you spent in reality on projects.

Re: Why didn’t I find AI that makes Google slides sooner??

My reaction to suggestions to use AI this way or that way was very similar, at first. In most cases, actually, I managed to make the best of it and speed up a few tasks. I admit, I haven't tried to use it to make presentations, as I barely ever need one. But I'll keep this in mind, you never know.

Has tipping culture changed? Do you tip more often?

I read an interesting article recently, so I want to ask you guys - does everything require a tip nowadays? Did you start tipping for services you haven't in the past? I think it happened gradually, so I didn't really think about it, but now I see that I do tip more often.

i dont really believe we all have the same 24 hours since we are all in different situations under different circumstances but we can still try and make the best out of a day

I cannot disagree, every situation is different. Some have more, others a lot fewer tasks, and then there's the difficulty factor - are those tasks easy or complex... Still, it's 24 hours for all of us. And comparing similar settings, some simply complete more work.

Quote
what i also do is not to go on to the next task until i finish my current one it helps me to be quicker

This. The goal whenever possible.

First off, I don't think it's "contrary to common belief", but, yeah, short breaks work are working for me too.

I spoke about this to a bunch of people and got under the impression it's a common belief from my random sample. Anyway, it works for some, both of us included, so that's what matters.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, guys!

Time management - tips and trick that worked for you?
by
whatspopping
on 04/07/2024, 14:26:49 UTC
I've been thinking a lot about my productivity lately and how time management plays a huge role. We all have the same 24 hours, but some people seem to get more done, right? I have been working on improving in this area for a couple of months. I wanted to share a few strategies that have worked for me and see what you all think.

Every morning, I jot down the top three things I need to get done. These are my must-dos, which help me stay focused on what's really important and avoid getting sidetracked by less critical stuff. Time blocking has also been helpful. I break my day into chunks and assign specific tasks to each block. For example, 9-11 AM is for deep work like writing or planning, and 2-3 PM is for meetings. Although this method is not always possible to implement, as sometimes urgent matters require my attention, or the meeting time doesn't work for the other person (a client or a colleague).

Contrary to common belief, taking short breaks can significantly enhance productivity, at least this is the case for me. I use the Pomodoro Technique, which involves 25 minutes of focused work and a 5-minute break. I feel this method keeps my mind fresh and prevents burnout, allowing me to make the most of my working time. What strategies do you use for time management? Have they improved your productivity?

Started using chat gpt for sheets, how do you use it for work?
by

I've seen chat gpt everywhere, we all have, used for this and that. Had my share of laughs with it asking silly questions. But I have been looking for a good business use for it for a while now. So, I recently found a decent extension, gpt for google sheets, that is actually pretty effective and saves time on a bunch of tasks. I'm testing it to create tables and lists. A super simple prompt gives me exactly what I need. It's awesome. I plan to test the other features, like summarizing or analyzing text. Has anyone else tried one of these extensions? Do you use gpt for work? I mean, it's fun to play around, but now I'm discovering a whole new world here.

Thanks! We'll start checking out the venues in person next month, so any input is much appreciated. Happy to hear positive things about the staff and food at the Old Ranch! And the Inn is within our budget, good to know your friend was happy with everything there.

Help with Orange County wedding venues
by
whatspopping
on 06/05/2024, 08:18:23 UTC
We're getting married next June, and we want an outdoor reception. It can be on a ranch or by the beach; we are pretty open here. Our budget is roughly $12,000, and it will be a small wedding. I checked wedding venues in Orange County here, and with our budget, number of guests, and other filters I used, there are quite a few options. So, I wanted to ask you specifically about Old Ranch Country Club and Newport Beach Marriott Bayview - it would be great if someone could share a personal experience with either. Or suggest one by yourself; that works, too.

Re: I need a script to take screenshots of a webpage automatically (Python)

I got to learn how knotty python screen capture can be. In some cases, using Selenium headlessly would give me better screenshots. A couple of other options you can test out are explained here in detail. Depends on a couple of factors if they will work in some specific cases, as always. It is still possible that you'll be struggling with pop-ups and cookie banners, plus all kinds of lurking issues if you need full-page screenshots.

I think we store past experiences to be able to deal with future ones efficiently (talking less philosophically and more biologically, to survive). By the way, I love the description "and wallow in misery as it may be". Sometimes it feels like lots of my memories seem to exist for this purpose alone.

My bank brings in QR codes
by
whatspopping
on 14/03/2024, 15:27:01 UTC
My bank started using QR codes instead of single-time passwords and ATM PINs for withdrawing money or making some account-related changes. So, I can scan a QR code at the ATM or cash counter instead of remembering a PIN. Really convenient for me. QR codes can offer an end-to-end encryption security feature for transactions, and this added layer of security provides peace of mind when dealing with them. But that's me, I know a thing or two about QR codes. Been using them for payments, and fun for years. I can't imagine my uncle finding this cool though. And honestly, I don't even know how common it is in financial institutions nowadays. Have any of you come across QR codes being used like this at your banks? Would it be a yea or nay for you?

Birthday card with qr code to fav songs playlist
by
whatspopping
on 09/10/2023, 11:31:08 UTC
I'll start off with a confession - it's not my idea, I half-borrowed it from a post I saw on reddit. The thing is, my sister moved to Finland and it will be the first birthday she'll spend away from us. Now, my idea has a prank element (it includes a paranoia-provoking email, that's all I'll say) but with a sweet twist cause I want to make a qr code with a playlist of her favorite songs. Now, I saw tons of rants about qr codes expiring in the thread I mentioned and some debates about the best qr code generator. Wanted to ask here - has anyone used any of these? Thanks in advance, guys, I am on the clock, gotta start setting the stage for the surprise.
