Re: checking private key of offline storage

As long as you have the private keys, you have the BCH, I don't understand where "lost forever" part is coming from.

Sorry to be so confusing.  At the time of the fork I had my btc stored on Armory 0.93.3.   On the bitcoincash explorer my bitcoincash coins show up on my address.

My question was that can I import this key into a wallet and retrieve my bch.
You stated that:
Only if they are funded with P2PKH or nested P2WPKH scripts(which my version of armory didn't) and that my older armory didn't have it unless updated to .96 prior to the fork.

This statement shows that my keys are invalid.  Is this true or is it possible to import them into the new armory and send my bch to an exchange or possibly another wallet provider.  Thanks for your help.

I only have my private key from armory 0.93.3 for my btc address prior to the fork.

How can I check if they are this format.  I am running the last version of armory that was available before you took over the project Goatpig.  Thanks.

If you didn't update to 0.96, you can't have any of these script types. If you did, you have to check on the online machine, through the address tree in the wallet properties dialog.
Am I able to import into the new armory and then transfer my bch or are they lost forever.

Can anyone tell us which wallet will accept private keys to retrieve our bitcoingold.

Any desktop wallet will give you a private key which can then be imported into an exchange or wallet that supports bitcoin gold.

Which exchange can I import my private key or wallet that this will work for?   I can't find any.

I had sent sonm tokens to my address 3.5 hours ago and haven't received them on the exchange.  I had opened a ticket request and still no response.  Are you able to help me.

Is there a delay in depositing sonm tokens.   We sent to the address 1.5 hours ago and they still don't show deposited.

Re: Bitcoin Core Cold Storage Question

My other idea would be to load bitcoin core on an offline computer and create multiple wallets with one address each and spread my bitcoin evenly across these single address wallets.  When I was ready to spend I would load the wallet on an online computer and send the btc.  This way if for some reason there is a security breach on an online computer I would only lose a small portion.  Does this sound like a possible solution.

Sure, its a possible solution. It's pretty clunky though.

There is, however, a better solution that was already mentioned in this thread. Simply use Armory which allows for convenient offline signing so that your private keys never need touch a networked computer. There is a slight learning curve, but if you are comfortable with Core, you are halfway there.

Also, don't forget to make backups.

I am currently using Armory 933 which was the old version before the original developer supported it.  Will this version work with segwit.  I am afraid upgrading to a newer version since its still not fully tested and worried that it could steal my wallet.

Bitcoin Core Cold Storage Question
by

on 17/11/2016, 19:02:11 UTC
Is it possible to use bitcoin core to setup a cold storage wallet.  My plan was to install it on an offline computer, generate an address and send coins to that address.  The computer then will be used to send coins maybe once or twice a year.  At that point I would have what ever bitcoins not being used sent to another offline computer, and the bitcoins that were going to be spent to an exchange.   Would this work or is there a better workaround for this.

I am still on the last version of the old armory on windows.  Will I still be able to keep my wallet on there and for how long before I need to move them?
