I agree with you. The right coin choice for the long term, we really have to choose the top 10 market cap, to reduce the risk of losing. Because the top 10 marketcap coins usually definitely go up if the market is stable. In my opinion the top 10 coin marketcap coins are special. But sometimes the risk comes unexpectedly. Before investing think about the risk.

But you should still evaluate those coins in top 10 like doge. Because if you are looking for long-term, make sure at least the coin has active development in place like ETH. You can expand it top 20 or 30, once you knew what you're looking for in a project. But for long-term, I think you should always consider if they will still be in the market years from now and people have the reasons why they will utilize the coin. Without strong use case, would be hard for the coin to survive.
