Thanks for the replies and sorry for the delay. I must've missed my e-mail notifications... I'll reply to you all below.
From some discussion i've seen, some Bitcoiner have security/privacy concern when buying goods related to cryptocurrency. Can you tell us how long your store user data?
We are obliged by law (GDPR) to delete all your personal information on your request. You can add this request to the notes in checkout - we will delete all your information after the return period ends (30 days from delivery). Remember that you can also request this any time by e-mail.
I understand you are based in the EU, but goes this also apply to non-EU customers who are ordering from you?
As we are obliged by local and European Union's law, we have to delete all private data after request. As far as I know, a similar law is in place in California. Nevertheless we chose to extend this right to erasure to all customers, to make them safer.
We erase all your data from our database after the request. As already mentioned here, we allow 30 days return period, so we have to keep your data for this long to fulfill this right to return. We are obliged to allow all returns by another EU's law, so this is a necessity. We just extend all these rights to all customers to make our and customers' life easier.
Thanks for the information. I check their Privacy Policy directly, so i missed their FAQ. But it's weird the Privacy Policy doesn't mention about deletion 30 days from delivery.
Indeed we forgot to add this info in the Privacy Policy as it seemed obvious, thanks for the notice, we already updated the document.
Also, we are working on updating our privacy policy and implementing even better mechanics of cleaning our database to protect the privacy of our customers.
This is a very good product and will be a big hit in the community everyone needs good storage or a backup solution for their seed phrase, I recommend that you can create a video for this besides the explanation you have on your page, people want to see videos of products on how to use the product, it can attract more customers.
Thanks for the kind words, we strive to make good, solid products. This is a good idea for a video, we are working on one already. We will probably add some stress tests videos in the future too.
I was following many stainless steel products for bitcointalk seed phrase backup, and I didn't find your plate being tested by Jameson Lopp, so maybe you should send him your plate for testing:
We are looking forward to Jameson Lopp testing our products, we hope he will include Coinplate in the next round of tests. We designed Coinplate with durability in mind, so we expect them to hold up well, as already confirmed by our internal tests. In the meantime we will make some decent videos from a new round of stress tests and will post them.
The product I offer is much easier to use than making your own with stamps and washers. If you pick Coinplate ALPHA or GRID You don't have to swing a hammer at stamps and risk injury. You can start right away after receiving the parcel and do your backup in few minutes, because you have everything you need in the box.
It is much easier for me go to local store, buy steel washers and add my own letters on them without leaving any trace of buying anything related with Bitcoin.
For your plate I would have to leave some digital trace for purchase, and I would have to live my personal details, name, delivery address, etc, than I would have to wait for package to arrive.
After package arrives I would still have to go with similar procedure of entering my backup on plates.
I see clear advantage for my DIY steel washer compared to your plate, and I would have to pay much less or create X times more backups for fraction of the cost.
The main benefit of Coinplate seed backup is that it is made from very thick stainless steel plates and connected by some proper, stainless bolts. You will have a hard time creating something as durable as Coinplate yourself without some proper machines and tools. I imagine you will spend quite a few hours attempting to make something similar, even if you are a DIY enthusiast and have the special, necessary tools. Stainless steel is quite frankly a pain in the ass to work with. We made all this hard work for you so you can save at least a few hours of work and probably quite a lot of $ in tools. All this while achieving price around 40% lower than some of our competitors. I believe it is quite a good deal for this type of product.
Obviously, anyone is free to make some DIY backups. The washer stack idea is for sure one of the best diy options. I know it's doable, as I've done some in the past myself. However, I didn't quite like the process of stamping your seed phrase with a hammer and letter stamps. It is not effortless at all, and I'm quite handy with tools. I imagine there is a quite big group of people who don't like using a hammer or any workshop tools basically. Some folks don't have access to a workshop and would have to make all this work on their office desk or kitchen counter. Like with any ready-to-use product on the market - might be a bit more expensive than DIY but it will make your life easier, that's how it works. Still for folks who would like to stamp their seed or use an electric engraver, we made a separate product.
Please don't take me wrong, I believe there is place for both ready-made solutions and DIY projects. Simply not everyone will want to spend their time making something from scratch and risking some mishap.
I understand your general concerns about data safety on the Internet, we are working to make it even more secure for our customers in the future. I believe you can make some steps to increase the safety of your data by a lot. For example if you used cryptocurrency payment and used some different address (i.e. work), maybe with slightly changed name, along with some spare e-mail account you will be pretty safe, even if someone has all this data.
Thank you all for solid remarks and discussion!
