The lowest cost is having family and friends who not only support you with words and gestures but also actively make sure to enforce a no-gambling environment in which you can relax and forget about gambling. A good distraction until your brain has recovered to normal levels is really all it takes for you to overcome any gambling addiction. The recovery time can be long, depending on the severity of the addiction. But going cold turkey is always the best thing to do.

But without friends and family, you might find yourself not being able to distract your brain from its addiction until it heals.

True, that's the real lowest cost that is effective for overcoming gambling addiction, as you said by having family and some friends who really care about the problems we are facing such as gambling addiction, quite lucky for those who have the closest people like that by providing solutions not only through mere suggestions but also with actions that certainly have the potential for a change or to encourage change to be closer to reality. I think one of the things that family or friends can do is to invite them (people suffering from addiction) to do many other activities that are positive and of course outside the world of gambling.
