I do not understand what are you talking about. Germany could not get to Spain in the 1/8 because the second place in Group A plays with the second place in Group B. Spain took first place in Group B ahead of schedule, so such a meeting was impossible. Now Germany will play with the second place in Group C, which of course looks better than a potential game with Italy.

Germany is not going to encounter Italy in the round of 16, but its opponents in Group C will be the second-place finishers, most probably Denmark or England. It is safe to assume Italy won't face Germany because it plays against Switzerland in the upcoming round. Italy avoids Germany in the round of 16, Italy is so darn lucky; otherwise, England seems strong enough for Germany.
