I think it totally depends on what is your starting point
if you have zero on savings then you are correct, how much you make will totally make a difference
but over time the amount you save end up being less important because interest starts to get higher and higher to the point where it'll surpass your earnings several times

it's like a chart where one of the variables (revenue) can go down over time if your investments are going up and up and you let it compound.
