That's a common expectation in my country. I get to see that a lot and I believe it's because those who gamble and win don't keep their mouths shut. Otherwise, how will others get to know that they won and begin to "tax" them. Well, to tell you the truth, that freebie one does whenever one manages to win goes a long way to further endear one to other gamblers. As for none gamblers making that request, I won't give to them. They're the same people who would call you stupid and foolish for gambling each time you lose.

Which is why its best to keep quite and keep it to yourself if you hit the jackpot enough to change your life. If possible don't buy new car or house of anything they see you have some money. Because this is going to make people notice you.

You aren't greedy when you do this but you are just careful enough to not let people take advantage of you. Its not worth spreading the word because it will stir your peace.
